  1.     Not really, it's all pretty simple stuff.  Don't know if walmart will have the garage door insulation kits but they should have weather stripping and such.  Easiest way I know of to find air leaks is to light an incense stick and move it around door/window edges while the HVAC system is running.  If there's a leak, the smoke will tell you.  Window tinting requires a lot of patience and a steady hand.  If you've never done it before, it may take a couple tries to make it look good.          This too.  I have a couple windows in desperate need of re-caulking.  Sadly it's been on my list for a couple years.  I hate caulking.  Actually I hate digging out the old caulk more than I hate applying new caulk.  :yuck:
  2. Insulation kit for garage doors or windows.    Weather stripping/seal kit for exterior doors.    Window tinting for any south-west facing windows.    Attic vents.    Thermostatic attic fan.    Water heater insulation blanket.    Hot water pipe insulation.    Vapor barrier for the crawl space.    Ceiling fans.   CF or LED bulbs   Motion sensors and/or timers and/or photocells on lights   ... my new HVAC unit is saving me about $40/mo compared to the old one, but the initial cost is slightly higher than $100... ;)
  3. While it's all about shot placement, I'd agree with the 100 yds or less.  From my (very limited) experience, it's pretty unlikely you'll get a clear shot much over 50 yds in the woods.  Long shots only come if you're hunting someone's corn field.
  4.   Cheesecloth.  I've heard that before.  Perhaps even here, perhaps even from you.  One of these days I'll remember to get some and try it.
  5. A nickname that was bestowed upon me by some former coworkers.
  6.     Yep.  I usually buy 3 - 4 when I find them on sale and throw them in the freezer.  I've got 1 or 2 left from the last sale.   Did you do anything special to keep the ribs from drying out?  I've only tried ribs once and the results weren't real good.  Edible, but kinda dry.
  7. The way I read the reg's, if you don't live on the land, you must have a license.  Just get one, they're not that expensive.
  8. Sounds yummy.  I need to get my smoker fired up again.  I think all that's left from the last round is half a pork loin.
  9.     All the crown does is protect the bore.  It sticks out so when (not if, when) you whack the muzzle on something, you ding the crown and not the bore itself.  A nick in the crown is fairly easily fixed.  A nick in the bore, not so much.    That's a really nice rifle and I'm sure the idea of damaging it turns your stomach (as it would mine), but consider the conditions under which its intended to function. No need to panic.
  10. Nice.
  11. As others have said, dogs are pack animals.  If you intend for it to be outside all the time and not interact with it a lot, get 2 dogs.  If a dog doesn't have a pack, it'll go find one.
  12. 6BR is a good one.  A friend has a rifle in 6BR that put three bullets into 1 hole at 200 yds.  I think they called it a 1/4" group.  Ammo isn't cheap.   I'd look at a high speed .22.   .223, .22-250, .204 Ruger, etc.
  13. This has been around for a number of years.  Had a panic moment when my oldest was a toddler... bottle in the yard and him wandering over to pick it up.  Me doing that slow motion running and yelling "NOOOO!!!!" .  Thankfully I beat him to it and it just had some water in it.
  14. Aluminum cleaning rod vs. hardened steel barrel?  I wouldn't worry about it.  You're probably just seeing some discoloration where the Al rubbed off on the steel.  You said it yourself, the barrel removed metal from the rod, not vice versa.
  15. If you don't want the dog to run off, train it or contain it.  Understand that it's against the (state) law to permit a dog to run "at large".    If you don't want it to bark all night, train it.  Easy for some dogs, not so easy for others.    Most any dog can be trained either to be a reasonable watch dog or family pet .  Dobermans, German Shepards, Rottweilers, and Boxers among others generally can be trained to be both a good pet and a good watch dog.  Some other breeds of working dog don't make such good pets.  Do your homework.       If you don't train it otherwise, most definitely yes.  Border Collie's are working dogs and need a job.  If you don't give them a job and show them how to do it, they'll make it up for themselves.   Chihuahua's.... eh.  Annoying little yippy things that get real ornery when they get old.
  16. I got peppered a couple times by dove hunters while playing golf a few years ago [insert joke here].  Since the effective range of a shotgun is so short, lots of people are completely clueless that the pellets can travel hundreds of yards.
  17. Unfortunately yes, some insurance companies and some individual agents blacklist some motorcycles.  I've got State Farm for most everything including my CBR, but my agent is a long time family friend.  I've heard stories of some SF agents refusing to insure various types of bikes.  My best advice is to shop around, not only the bike policy but everything else (home/renters, car, etc.)
  18. We got a Red Ryder for my oldest on his 5th birthday.  His excitement about it comes and goes. The stock is still much too big for him so it's pretty awkward as well.  I've considered cutting it down but his lack of interest hasn't motivated me to do it yet.  It'll be a while before we upgrade to anything more powerful.
  19. Cool. Did a little caving myself today. We're in bowling green visiting family and we went to mammoth cave. Neat place. Would like to go back and go on one of their more intensive tours.
