Kerosene heaters. Any suggested brands?
peejman replied to Mark A's topic in Survival and Preparedness
That's part of my aversion to kerosene heaters. A coworker's ex-wife (and mother of his son) wasn't so lucky. They found her and her boyfriend dead in a cabin from CO poisoning due to using an "outdoor only" kerosene heater indoors. I would assume that new ones would have an automatic shut-off feature, and you absolutely should have a separate CO detector near the heater. -
Someone's got photoshop skillz....

Cool. Not sure I'd risk carrying a family heirloom like that, but if you're good with it...

I had one nearly get me once.... I had just walked around the corner and there was this swoosh and rustle of feathers right across my head. It flew back up, sat on my roof, and fussed at me for screwing up it's meal.

A BJ. :woohoo: But given how infrequently that happens :-\ ... cooking with a cold adult beverage works too. Nice cooker. I've been thinking of building something like that. Do you have any problems with the heat degrading the block? Or is it lined with fire brick?

The video shows roasting marsh mellows over the fire. Do not do that without water in the kettle. The water will keep the metal cool(er). As others have said... perfectly safe. Perhaps a slight metallic taste to the water, but it shouldn't leach anything harmful. Kinda bulky for backpacking.

We've only got a few humming birds. We used to have more, but my arsehat neighbor cut down a willow tree that they liked to roost in. My parents generally have a dozen or so. They're definitely fun to watch, they'll keep my kids entertained for a while. So who else has had one come eat from the feeder while you're carrying it from the house to the yard? We have several other regular bird feeders and lots of birds. I like watching and listening to them, though I will admit my favorite part is when the resident Cooper's Hawk swoops in and snatches a Dove. :)

Good deal. My wife and I have wanted to get a pop-up for several years. To me, anything bigger than that isn't camping anymore, its RV-ing. Some folks seem to tow the whole house behind the truck. Other than money, our current excuse is we're waiting for the littlest one to get potty trained. Somehow changing poopy diapers while camping just doesn't strike me as loads of fun. (get it, loads?... ). Every so often I get on craigslist and see what's out there. Prices seems to vary tremendously for little apparent reason. It's good to see you can get a decent one for a modest price. What size box is it?

Pay to join? None. Do I mind providing a small donation to help keep good communities going? Nope.

Kerosene heaters. Any suggested brands?

I have the same heater. I've only had it out of the box to verify that it works. I've also got the hoses for connection to a 40lb tank but haven't bought another cylinder yet. Given expectations of the coming winter, I probably should. The "grand plan" is to install some vent free gas logs as a no electricity heat source but haven't gotten there yet. I've always been leery of kerosene heaters. Can't stand the smell and sure don't want it in my house, but perhaps the newer ones are better. I'd also like to hear some recommendations. -
You can go online and look yourself up via SSN. Or just call the office and perhaps they can find your number. It was about 20 years between safety class and first license purchase for me.

Pipe size, partially blocked line, valve not fully open, ....

+ 1 on the roof leaks. They're horrendously expensive to repair.

Cool.

Changing an email address can be rather a PITA. I do recommend you change it to something 'universal' like gmail. Gmail is easy and my primary email account. You should be able to set up your Comcast account to auto-forward to the new address. You can send out an email from the old account to everyone to inform them of your new email account. You should also be able to export your contacts from one account to another. All the data may not go and it will likely require some effort to make sure everything is right.

Radar signature... quite large. If you stay low, that would help but its much more dangerous. They're also very loud. Remember how quiet it was on 9/11? People would hear it for miles around.

Hunting License for Non-protected Species?
peejman replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Hunting and Fishing
My assumption is yes, you'd need a license in both cases. A small game license in the case of the birds and a large game license for the hogs. -
You forget this is TN. The left lane isn't for passing, it's for riding along next to the car in the right lane. Some of these people should take a European vacation. They'll get an idea of what the left lane is for real quick.

We've had ATT DSL for about 5 years. It's not super fast, but I don't game or anything that requires a lot of bandwidth so it works fine for me. Pretty cheap too. My only cable option is Charter, and I'll be damned if that company gets another dime of my money.

Not really, it's all pretty simple stuff. Don't know if walmart will have the garage door insulation kits but they should have weather stripping and such. Easiest way I know of to find air leaks is to light an incense stick and move it around door/window edges while the HVAC system is running. If there's a leak, the smoke will tell you. Window tinting requires a lot of patience and a steady hand. If you've never done it before, it may take a couple tries to make it look good. This too. I have a couple windows in desperate need of re-caulking. Sadly it's been on my list for a couple years. I hate caulking. Actually I hate digging out the old caulk more than I hate applying new caulk. :yuck:

Insulation kit for garage doors or windows. Weather stripping/seal kit for exterior doors. Window tinting for any south-west facing windows. Attic vents. Thermostatic attic fan. Water heater insulation blanket. Hot water pipe insulation. Vapor barrier for the crawl space. Ceiling fans. CF or LED bulbs Motion sensors and/or timers and/or photocells on lights ... my new HVAC unit is saving me about $40/mo compared to the old one, but the initial cost is slightly higher than $100... ;)

While it's all about shot placement, I'd agree with the 100 yds or less. From my (very limited) experience, it's pretty unlikely you'll get a clear shot much over 50 yds in the woods. Long shots only come if you're hunting someone's corn field.
