  1. Welcome!    As a person who's spent a significant amount of time in the Auburn Hills, Rochester Hills, and Sterling Heights areas, I think you'll find Knoxville to be a noticeable improvement.   As for the snow thing... Yanks always tell us that they know how to drive in the snow.  Then we pull them out of the ditch.  ;)   We don't get snow, we get ice.  And it's flat in MI, there's hardly a flat spot here.  Having done both, driving in the snow in MI is completely different from here.
  2. What he said.... if it's kept in the garage, the tires will last much longer.  Using stuff like Armor All protectant will also help prevent the sun's UV radiation from breaking down the rubber.    When they start to develop surface cracks and dry rot, its time to think about replacement them regardless of tread wear.  I'm in the market for some new trailer tires for that exact reason.
  3. Interesting that this article is from 3 years ago.  And more interesting (to me at least) that's written by David Feherty (the golf announcer) whom I thoroughly enjoy listening to.
  4. Sorry if I sound like as smart arse, but I'm completely serious.  Buy 1 box of whatever variety you can find, where ever you can find it.  Try them and see which works best.  Some may not cycle, some may have terrible groups, some may be really dirty, ...  Then again, you may not notice much difference in any of them.  There's only 1 way to find out.
  5. That's a darn big knife.  I've always though the kukri style knives just look mean.  Nice tomahawk too.  Wish I could find time to make such things.
  6. Whatever kind works best in your gun.
  7.     Using a quality pleated air filter with MERV rating of 7-12 can improve indoor air quality considerably.  Lower than 7 doesn't really do much, above 12 restricts airflow too much is systems not designed for that type of filter.   You can buy them in bulk (modest quantities) online.  http://www.filtersfast.com/Filtrete-Micro-Red-6Pack-Filter.asp
  8. I've had the same problem sporadically.  Sometimes it works normally, sometimes it makes a mess of things and you have to put it on a line by itself.
  9. Looks like the wad.
  10. Interesting.  Seems like it would weight about 20 lbs with all that stuff in it.  I'll be curious to see your review.
  11.   Assuming the wheels are designed such that you can stick the weight in the right spot and it be out of sight, agreed.     To the OP: can't go wrong with the Michelin's.  Just make sure you intend to put another 100k on the truck.  No sense buying high dollar 100k mile tires if you're not gonna keep the truck long enough to justify the purchase.  Finding places out-of-stock is a good thing... that means they sell a lot of them.  They should be able to get them in a few days.
  12.   Find a nice girl who likes to bake so the oven stays at 400 deg for hours a couple days/week during the summer.  Leave the computer on for days at a time.  Leave all the wall warts plugged in all the time.  Then a few years later you'll have a couple rug rats to run around the house and turn all the lights on.  That'll fix it.  :)
  13. Welcome!  I grew up in Hixson and also remember what it was like before Hamilton place and the downtown renovations.  And I was generally gone all day and my parents didn't worry.
  14. The eagle's talons can easily snap bones.  The bird just needs a clear shot at the deer's spine.  Snap the spine and wait for the deer to die.    One of my wife's friends had her arm broken by a bald eagle.  The was handling it at the zoo and someone nearby dropped something.  The crash startled the bird and it tightened it's talons on her arm and broke both bones.    Remember the video of the eagle trying to knock the baby mountain goat off the side of a mountain?  Don't have access to youtube at the moment, but it should be easy to find.
  15. As others have said... just like the SR-71, the A-10 will be mothballed until they need it again.
  16.     If they're using the weights that clamp on the outer edge of the rim, you can't balance a tire with weights on the inside only.  The machine is balancing the tire in more than one plane, hence weights need to be on both the inside and outside.  The best option is the adhesive type weights that they stick on the center line.    But since the weights are already there, it's likely they've rubbed through the clear coat on the wheel and will leave a permanent mark (unless you get it fixed).
  17. From what I see, the SRA is a more road biased tire.  I got about 75k miles out of a set of Firestone Destination LE's on my SUV with no complains.  Smooth, quiet, good traction.    I've currently got Cooper Discoverer HT's on it with about 10k miles.  Also quite good.  Most of my motivation for buying the Cooper's was that they're made in the US.  I read not too long ago that Cooper was bought by a company based in India.  I don't know what (if anything) has changed, but it's something you might look into.    That said, if you can afford the price of admission, you can't really go wrong with Michelin's.  Dad's had several sets on his various trucks and been happy.  He also had a set of Firestone Destination AT's and had no complaints.    www.tirerack.com   is a good place to do research on various tires.  There's lots of reviews, warranty performance, and they may also have some comparison test data.   As to where to have them installed... your local tire store.  Most all do lifetime balance & rotation.  Once you decide what you want, call a lot of shops and get "out the door" prices.
  18.   I guess I need to try the LED bulbs.  I've got several CFL's in the house and I don't really like them.  I'm not sure if it's the color temp or the light output or what, but it sure seems to me that four 60W incandescent bulbs put out way more usable light than four 60W equivalent CFL's.           If you're renting, I wouldn't do anything permanent without talking to the owner first.  The owner might be willing to split costs with you.      ... and just because I'm that guy... If the water is already hot, why are you heating it?  ;)

    Snake guns

For me... basically any sort of small rodent (mice, rats, moles, Obama's, ...) and the fleas, ticks, and lice that come with said critters.
  20. Just for the record, there's two threads on this story....  http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/70596-zero-tollerance-is-out-of-control/

  22.     So you can be convicted of possession while under the influence based on what an officer smelled and your own admission.  Interesting.  Based on this and the post above, I assume the conviction is based primarily on the admission.  The logical course of action seems clear.

  24. I got a pair of Timberland Pro work boots a couple years ago.  They've got the composite safety toe and are, by far, the lightest and most comfortable work boots I've ever worn.  Given your foot problems, I'd highly recommend you look into custom foot beds.  The regular Dr. Scholl's work for me, but some quality custom food beds would probably help significantly.
  25.     I used to have BB gun wars with my friends.  We'd be running around the neighborhood wearing camo, carrying guns without orange tips, and shooting and screaming at one another.  They'd probably call SWAT and the National Guard these days.           While I'd heartily applaud your initiative on this, you'd better talk to the kids' parents and have them sign a release.  If one of them gets hurt on your property, you'll get sued.  Sad but true.
