  1. Welcome!
  2. Only negative I can think of for evening hunts is running out of light while tracking one and having to leave it over night.
  3. The only legal problem you may have is discharge within city limits. I agree with the hot wire idea, and the 3 S's.
  4. I got a confirmation within seconds of my order.
  5. Got my shipping notice this morning, should be here Friday. Which is great, except that you couldn't pay me to get out in that madness. Hope they don't mind if I wait a day or two....
  6. Ouch! How'd you manage that?
  7. Wow. I can't pull the trigger that fast, much less hit anything and reload.
  8. My wife (girlfriend at the time) and I took a ballroom class in college. It was a ball! (ba dump bump). Seriously, we both really enjoyed it. Swing dancing in particular was fun. All the comments about cute girls do apply. Though it can be a fine line to walk (or dance) when with your SO, especially if she's the jealous type.
  9. You should be able to buy a Win 7 upgrade.  I've been quite pleased with it.  Never tried Win 8 but have heard plenty of bad reviews.  The Linux people will chime in momentarily....  :)
  10.     I'll make a big pot of broth with the turkey carcass on friday. We put it in plastic containers and freeze it.  Makes for good soup all winter long.
  11.     Right.  But what about when they're old enough to hunt alone?  Do they have to take the course?
  12.     True.  Speaking of bloated registries...   download and install ccleaner  https://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download   It'll clean up your registry which will speed things up a bit as well, particularly the slow start-ups.  '   As for the MSSE full scan, I just let it run over-night.
  13. My youngest boy's lifetime came in the mail a week or two ago.  He'll be 3 in a couple weeks.    Here's a question...  as a lifetime sportsman license holder, do they still have to attend a hunter's safety course at some point?  I plan to send them regardless, but I'm curious if its a requirement?
  14.   This.  Norton is never free.  They'd have to pay me quite a bit to go back to that garbage.    I used Adaware, malwarebytes, and AVG free (combined) before I upgraded to Win 7 and started using MS Security Essentials.  It's very good.

    building a mauser?

This.  You should be able to find a sporterized or otherwise bubba'd rifle pretty cheap.
  16.     This.    GP11 is the good stuff, I've never had any issue finding it.  It was scarce when everything was scarce, but supply came back quickly.  I've got a couple boxes of Hornady hunting ammo for whenever I find time to try deer hunting, but I've only shot a few of those simply to verify POI.
  17.   Because they wanted the bullet to go really fast.
  18. Cash-for-clunkers, Katrina, Sandy, the big Nashville flood, the economic recession...   There's a number of reasons the used car market is absurd these days.
  19. Glenn and tnguy illustrate my point. The lawmakers are showcasing their ignorance by restricting the manufacturing method. If it's already illegal to own an undetectible gun, then legistating against one specific manufacturing process to produce something thats already illegal is exceedingly stupid. But I guess that shouldn't surprise me.
  20. It's your gun to do with as you please, but I guess I don't see the point. You've stated that it's a bear as a 380, anything more powerful is just going to be worse. I view a derringer as a "get off me" gun at best and I see little advantage in moving up to 9mm.
  21. That's a nearly 60% increase in pressure/stress. That sounds like a lot, but one could assume the gun was originally designed with a safety factor of at least 4. Calculating the stress is pretty straightforward, you just need the geometry. That said, I doubt you'll find a smith that'll do t because of the liability. You do realize that the .380, 9mm, and .38sp are all the same diameter, right?
  22. Point taken. But 3D printing isn't limited to plastic. Does this mean it would be illegal for a firearm manufacturer to invest in 3D printing technology? So it's ok to start with a block of metal and make a pile of chips, but the reverse is illegal?
  23. Gunny's in Maryville has a couple indoor lanes where you can shoot rifles. I think Farnsworth's in vonore does as well. Anyone know if the new range at Frontier allows rifles?
  24. You're talking about the blue/purple spray foam stuff they use on the DIY channel all the time? If so, I'm sure there's a pro around with the equipment. It's not exactly cheap, but it works great. Be sure you've got a vapor barrier under it.
