Heat. It could be that the barrel steel is somewhat porous and has soaked up crud over the years. The easiest thing is to remove the barrel. Then you can get it hot, up to 400 deg won't hurt the steel, though it might ruin the finish.

Check the date on any beer you find there. I've found stuff that was over a year old. The "pick 6" at the local Kroger and Food City have similar selection at times.

That's a good one to remember for when my boys get older. :)

Cosby speaks some common sense...
peejman replied to thundersnow's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Cosby's political inclinations are well left of center. His comedy is hilarious. -
Can't say I've ever heard anything bad about stuff from PA. If I ever get my AR built, I plan to use one of their red dots.

I agree to pay it forward. Why not add $10-$20 of your own to sweeten the deal. Leave the waitress a note explaining why. Maybe she'll pass the $20 along to someone else.

If that's the case, you're looking at a 2 hr radius from Nashville.

Sounds like lots of fun, but i have no applicable toys... :(

You need a standard small game hunting license. The hunt/fish combo is $26. That said, wish I was closer.

Sorry Sears, but we need to start seeing other people
peejman replied to NoBanStan's topic in General Chat
Hurricane Andrew hit FL in the early '90s when I worked there. At the time, Sears also owned Allstate insurance who happened to insure the majority of central Florida. They told us that was the first year ever that the company posted a loss for the year. -
Sorry Sears, but we need to start seeing other people

I worked at Sears for a number of years through high school and part of college, starting about 25 years ago. I've got a toolbox set and a lot of hand tools from those days and they've held up well through a bit of car wrenching and DIY home improvement stiff. I hate to think ill live in a world without the craftsman brand, but if they don't consolidate their feces, they'll go the way of the dodo soon. -
Any sort of reactive target... water/flour balloons, cans, bottles, etc.

Interesting. I would have thought the arrow had so little mass as to be inconsequential. Thanks.

If she doesn't like twisty roads, better look at the southern middle/west. When we lived in Kingsport and. my in-laws came for a visit, my FIL said, "good grief, are there no straight roads here?" Nope, and we like it that way. :)

Somewhat off topic, but can someone explain how dry firing damages a crossbow?

Could Colt, Kimber, EB and others manufacture a $400 gun?
peejman replied to a topic in General Chat
They could produce for less cost, but it would take a big investment. Highly automated processes would minimize labor, which is typically the biggest expense. But that kind of equipment isn't cheap. I always laugh at the Les Baer commercial that talks about "hand fit tolerances that no CNC machine can match"... which is utter nonsense. Just an excuse to justify their prices. -
The vast majority of the time that's all we get most anywhere in the state, an inch or so that's mostly gone by lunch. But storms do come through they can drop a couple inches in the low lands and a foot or more up in the hills. The big problem is ice. It'll start raining when it's 34 deg and then the temps drop into the 20s. Nasty ice everywhere. That happens 1-3 times per season. If you really want to avoid that, you'll need to look further south.

Crossville is a nice enough town but there's just not much there. It's a quiet little town. Being on the plateau, it's generally a little cooler in the summer but they get more ice and snow in the winter.

Calling all wood cutters, loggers and chainsaw enthusiasts
peejman replied to Spots's topic in General Chat
I also enjoy splitting wood by hand. We had a fireplace insert stove where I grew up and cut and split a lot of wood. We lived in a wooded subdivision and whenever anyone dad knew had a tree come down, we'd go cut it up and haul off. Splitting wood does wonders for teenage angst. Save an apt we lived in for a while, we've not had a fireplace since. I miss it and would really like to have one, mostly for emergency heat. I hope to install gas logs in my current house. I'd like a wood burning stove, but there's just not a good place for one in the house. -
Went there last night. Same as I remember, reasonably nice and affordable. The deal with no steel or aluminum cased ammo still seems odd to me, but obviously they've got a deal with a recycler or reloading company to buy brass only.

Got to try it out yesterday evening... 50 rds of WWB, 50 rds of federal ball, and 25 rds of Critical Defense with zero issues. :) As most have said, really soft shooting for a small 9mm. Pretty accurate for me, though an inch or two to the left. Wifey was on target and was quite happy with it, though a bit more practice is in order.

If you want to avoid the "big city", then Nashville and Knoxville are out. Both are far too big city-ish for me. I grew up in the Chattanooga area and it's a nice place. We now live in Maryville where my wife grew up and its nice too. My wife and I both went to college in Cookeville. It's a small town that's grown tremendously over the years. Our favorite area is the "Far East" tricities area. We lived near Kingsport for about 8 years.

While I agree that the CEOs of some charities make way too much money, the fact is that it's very difficult to find someone with the skills to manage such a large organization who will work for less. A lot of them could easily double their pay running another business. Such is the world we live in.

Can't go wrong with St Jude or Ronald McDonald house. Otherwise I'd look at some local charities like the food pantry or rescue ministries. My wife donates small amounts to a bunch of charities. If you do some research, it seems the more efficient charities have 20% overhead or less.

Sorry to hear that.
