  1. I had one of the Daisy pump pellet rifles as a kid.  Granted, all that time shooting was with 12-16 yr old eyes, but within it's lethal range (20-30 yds?), it was a tack driver.  Sub 1" groups with the stock iron sights were cake.  I'd routinely blow the center out of a small bore rifle target with BB's.  Many a matchbox car or green army man met it's demise.  And if the shotgun effect was desired, drop a dozen or so BB's down the bore, and viola!  Instant shotgun.    The modern GAMO air rifles should be even better.  I've been thinking about getting one for quite a while to use as pest control in my suburban back yard.
  2. Welcome!
  3.     Carb rebuild for a small single cylinder engine is pretty easy, there's not much to them.  A motorcycle with 4 carbs that have work together... that's not so easy.  If you're really averse to rebuilding it, look for a whole new carb.  Sometimes they can be had for less than the cost of the rebuild parts.    As for storage... 100% gas with Stabil.  Ethanol is the enemy.
  4.   Steel Panther's image is intentionally like that... they play the classic '80's hair metal stuff and make fun of the image at the same time.  It's clear they don't take themselves too seriously.    And yep, that kid's got a future.
  5. I've got a DeSantis Nemesis for my P3AT that I like quite well.  My wife has a Blackhawk pocket holster for her Shield and while it works, its just not quite as nice.
  6.     I'll disagree with the dual fuel part.  Unless the price of natural gas jumps a lot in the near term, I don't see the value.  I replacement my HVAC unit this past summer and looked at a dual fuel unit.  Best I recall, some quick math showed the payback to be in the 10 yr range.  That's too long to justify the extra expense IMO.    Dad has a Carrier dual fuel unit and it's been problematic.  It's not had any major failures but has had a number of small things go wrong that made it either not run correctly or at all until fixed.  He got a 10 yr parts/labor warranty and has made good use of it.  The newest versions are likely better, but I tend to subscribe to the KISS philosophy, and a dual fuel unit has lots of extra stuff to break.              Either your unit is too small for the house, the house is poorly insulated, something's wrong with the unit, or some combination thereof.  If you've got has heat, it should've been nice and toasty again within an hour.  I'd check the duct work for leaks.
  7. Lots of big businesses that use large amount of electricity (thousands of amps) have agreements where their utility can throttle or completely shut off their power supply during times of high demand to prevent damage to the grid.  Two of the three places I've worked had those agreements in place.  It's happened only one time, several years ago during the middle of the summer.  The utility called and told us we had 20 minutes before they shut off the power, and 20 minutes later the lights went off.
  8. I got my parents a decorative stepping stone for the flowerbed that says mostly the same thing.  Good stuff.
  9. Who has 2 thumbs and is a freakin' moron? Yep, me. We left water running and I barely slept monday night due to worrying about pipes freezing in my crawlspace. Thankfully they didn't freeze. While at work yesterday I decided I would take a thermometer into the crawlspace and find out just how cold it was down there. So I got home, grabbed a flashlight and a thermometer, and opened the door and crawled in. Given that is was 15 deg outside, my first though was "gee, it's really not that cold in here." While I sat there waiting for the thermometer to settle, I looked around and saw a spot of light on one wall, which I thought was odd. :squint: I crawled over and to my horror, I found one of the vents still open. Then I looked around more and found several others open. :panic: Guess who forgot to close ANY of the crawlspace vents before it got cold? Yeah... that'd be me. So after walked all the way around the house and closing all the vents, I went back in the crawlspace and checked the thermometer.... 42 deg.... while it was 15 deg outside and the vents had been open. No reason at all to worry about the pipes freezing. So I had a glass of wine before bed and slept like a baby last night. I'm glad I don't have to worry about it any more, but I feel really stupid for forgetting that.
  10. I see lots of good suggestions here but one significant thing missing.... a fire extinguisher.
  11. Welcome!
  12. This. Check the panel on the left and make sure the correct box is checked. Been there, done that.
  13. As a youngster, I might have hunted LOTS of squirrels in the woods behind the house with .22 CB's or an air rifle. You know, before I understood things like hunting licenses...
  14.   Agreed.  I've never understood the point of a 14.5 with a pinned muzzle device compared to a standard 16".
  15. I hear stories of one of the local gas utilities running out of gas.  Apparently they throttle the supply and the lines got sucked dry this morning.    My wife says our heat is still working fine, so I'm thankful for that.  She also says the kids being cooped up in the house for 2 days are driving her batty.  :)
  16. Seems like plenty of kids do stuff like 3-gun, USPSA, IDPA, Cowboy action, NRA High Power, etc.   I'm sure there's skeet/trap/clays stuff around as well.    This might be a place to start...  http://compete.nra.org/
  17.     Mucho sucko.
  18. Interesting toy.        Me neither.  And with little kids and a wife who doesn't like such movies, not likely that I will.
  19.     Probably a substation dropping out.    I didn't sleep worth a darn last night.  I am thankful our power stayed on all night.  I left some water trickling in a few faucets in the house and nothing's frozen up so far.  This is the coldest it's been while we've lived in this house.  When I get home tonite, I think I'll take a thermometer into my crawl space as I'm curious just how cold it is down there.
  20. Windhawk makes a good point... If the house isn't well sealed and insulated, it won't matter what kind of furnace/heat pump you get.
  21. Maybe it was fun when it was somewhere else. I just about froze my fingers off trying to get my heat lamp set up under the oil pan shortly after I got home. I hope it starts in the morning.
  22. Welcome!
  23. While that's obviously fake, some real airplanes can touch down and stop surprisingly quickly. Check out the landing at the end of this flight... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=we9uBdU0ccE
  24.     Sounds like my house.  I'm certain the plumber wired it.  No self respecting electrician would've done it that way.
