  1. Stupid hurts. Sometimes it kills. Darwin at work.
  2.       And there it is.  By the time a large number of parents start thinking about teaching their kids about such things, it's way too late.  By the time the kid is 16-18 yrs old, you're pretty much done as a parent.  Personality traits, spending/saving habits, work ethic... it's all pretty well set by then.  If you haven't spent the prior 10 yrs teaching them those lessons and concepts, they're going to spend the next 10 yrs learning them the hard way.

It's all about shot placement. If you can't shoot it accurately and relatively quickly, it's not a good defensive choice regardless of what caliber it is. A hit with a .22 is more effective than a miss with a .50 BMG.
  4. ... And I agree completely. However, I'm quite sure the Dad knew about the policy. Let your kid borrow your car? Make darn sure there's nothing in it that might get him in trouble. It's certainly not the boy's fault. If there's any blame to be assigned, it's with Dad. Stupid rule or not. And yes, I too carried a pocket knife all through school. Teachers would occasionally ask to borrow it because they knew it was sharp.
  5. What a schmuck. That's hunting out of season at the least.
  6.     Ok, so who else had to google "intransigence"?     But seriously... yes that's stupid.  Dad should do a better job cleaning out the car.
  7. Ok, so it sounds like some form of local storage with cloud back-up is the way to go.  I have no interest in full time video.  I'd be satisfied with game-cam type motion activated still images.  As I said above, seems like quality still images would be better than a crappy video and probably a lot less data to store/upload.
  8.     True.  I'd be happy with simple photos every second or two rather than streaming video.  Seems like a few reasonably high quality photos would be as effective as video.  Not as much fun to watch, but it would serve the purpose.
  9. Mine is also a little wild with some hairs that stick out in random directions.  My wife gave me a bottle of some stuff that she tried for frizzy hair.  It's some sort of oil but I don't remember exactly what.  I know it's not jojoba oil.  Either way, it doesn't seem to do a whole lot other than make it a little shiny and give it a slight smell of snickerdoodle cookies (which isn't a bad thing....   :dirty:   ).  I sent her the link that Spots posted above in the hopes that she might get me some of the oil for VD.  Seems she takes hints about as well as I do.  I've looked in several stores and haven't found anything, so it seems ordering online is the only to get it.
  10.     The fear mongering rhetoric and blindly passing judgement based on it is a pet peeve.  Forgive the barb, it wasn't directed specifically at you.           I wouldn't say "all", but I see your point and agree with it.  Most of those hybrid owners probably have a 2-stroke leaf blower.
  11.     The whole point of cloud storage is there's not any recording equipment to find (or buy, manage, and maintain).
  12. There's a mental image I really didn't need....
  13. Been thinking more and more about getting a couple cameras. At this point I think I want cloud recording so I don't have to mess with DVR and such.
  14. Been shopping for one for several years. Just had other financial priorities unfortunately. True, but it would not have been nearly as fast without the regulation changes. But again, if folks would actually bother to read beyond the sensational headlines, you might learn that this only applies to new stoves. "The man" isn't going to come take your old one. It also won't affect buying a used one.
  15.     If you don't mind the tourist traffic, its a really nice place.  Traffic is horrendous at specific times.  Plenty of outdoor recreation opportunities, if that's your thing.
  16. You're the only one that will notice the color difference.    I've got an antique china cabinet (family heirloom), antique buffet (wife bought it), kitchen table and chairs (gift from old neighbor), and book case (bought it) all sitting within a few feet of one another on a wood floor (came with the house).  None of them are exactly the same color.  No one cares.    Given that they're probably all made from different types of wood, even stripping and re-staining them isn't likely to yield perfectly matching colors.  Different woods absorb stain differently.  Heck, different pieces of wood from the same tree don't always come out the same color.
  17. Typical fear mongering.  :shake:           Existing units will be grandfathered in, just like the last few times they updated the regulations.  The new regulations will cause investment in developing the stoves and improvements in the performance and efficiency, just like the last time they updated the regulations.  Think things like modern clean burning, high efficiency stoves were developed due to consumer demand?  Think again.     https://www.chimneysweeponline.com/hoepareg.htm
  18. Welcome back (sort of).   :)
  19. I'm a bit surprised a .22 pistol would set it off.  I've always been under the impression that it took a high powered rifle.
  20. Cool, welcome to the club! Just remember that you're invisible and everyone is trying to kill you and you'll be fine.
  21. It's gonna be in the 40's again next week. No need to rush. If you can't get just the clutch from the parts store, get one at pull-a-part.
  22. Yep. While you've got it out, send it off to Kivarri. You'll be amazed at the results. http://www.kivaari.com/SKS%20Target%20Match.htm
  23. Glad you took car of it. I would've told the parents what the kids did.
  24. Welcome!
  25. If you want it milled, mikes got the stuff to do it.
