  1. A cousin is a reserve officer in Michigan. He seems to enjoy the work. The perk of being able to carry anywhere is nice too. They don't seem to have a program like that around here.
  2. Cool stuff. Reminds me of this... http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=G3QrhdfLCO8
  3. I agree that it looks like the one you linked. If you think you can flip it or don't mind hanging onto it, go for it. Price seems absurd to me unless it's very rare and/or hand made, but I have no idea what the market is like for boutique knives. Personally, I'd take a case of ammo over it any day.
  4. Pics please. :)
  5. Which illustrates my frustration with all the "it's been 30 seconds, why can't they find it?" sentiment. That plane was 20 minutes beyond radar coverage on it's intended flight path when it went down. For all intents and purposes they knew exactly where it was when it went down and it still took 5 days to find it. The ocean is a big place. Sorry, rant over.
  6.     Yep.    Romantic comedies.... only when there's a couple smokin' hot sex scenes.
  7.     The system is built into the airplane and the engine management software.  It's a normal thing for any modern jet engine, particularly the really big expensive ones on a jumbo jet.  The engine management computer sends data on it's operating parameters back to the manufacturer/operator via satellite transmissions so they can anticipate any problems and schedule maintenance so the airplane doesn't suffer a failure and get stranded somewhere it can't be readily fixed.    The OnStar app where your car talks to your phone does the same thing.
  8. Yes, he's a few feet behind it to make it look bigger, but look at the size of the head relative to the leaves on the ground near it.  That's a big pig.  I do wonder what's holding it's head up like that though...
  9. Yep. Haven't bought anything yet, but it's a pretty nice thing.
  10. You guys just aren't on "the list"...... yet.
  11. Good for everyone! I smoked for a while then switched to chew for a while. I always thought dipping was just plain gross... sucking on worm dirt... Between the pictures in the dentist's office and just getting tired of it, I quit a long time ago. Quitting for me was no big deal, I'm glad I quit early. Now I can't stand the smell of cigarettes or chew, but I enjoy the smell of a pipe.
  12.     Or a minivan...  :panic:     You might be amazed at what you can haul in a minivan.
  13. Looks like the attention whore will be getting plenty of it from 500 of his new best friends.
  14. I used to be a big car guy, but now that I have a family... meh, its just a tool I use to get things done.  My "dream truck" doesn't exist anymore.  That said, I'd want maintenance records and I'd look up the service intervals for various expensive things and let that guide how important that extra 29k miles is.
  15.     And just because the Boeing web site says a 7000ft runway is required, doesn't mean the plane can't land in a much shorter distance.  Take the Dream-lifter for example.... the "book" says 9000ft.  It easily landed and took off again on a 6000 ft runway.    http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/jumbo-cargo-jet-lands-wrong-airport-short-runway-article-1.1524440
  16.     Mufflers?  In Tennessee?
  17.     Possible, yes.  While a 777 is a big airplane, the world is a pretty darn big place.  Even as connected as we are these days, there's lots and lots of nothing out there, and that plane could fly a long way.  Those who would do such a thing couldn't give two shits about the passengers or what their countries' governments think about it.    Honestly, I think it's at the bottom of the ocean somewhere.  But for the sake of the passengers and their families, I hope they're found safe.
  18. Nice.  Freakin' huge, but nice.
  19.     Best way to make a small fortune in aviation...?  Start with a large fortune.
  20. Clearly you've never dealt with the FAA. Something that costs normal people $500 would cost $10,000 and require $2000 in annual maintenance by the time they were done with it.
  21. Newer planes like the 777 also have a systems where the airplane sends satellite transmission of general data about the airplane (condition of the engines, etc.)  I'm told that this system wasn't working and they don't know whether it was intentionally disabled or not yet.    If satellite tracking and such were the norm, it wouldn't have taken 5 days to find the initial wreckage and another 2 years to find the black boxes from Air France 447.  That one went down 20 minutes after it left radar coverage.
  22. Prowlers are really cool looking cruisers once that ridiculous front "bumper" is removed.  It was never meant to be a race car.           Chevy copied the Mercedes CLK convertible hard top.  I was working on another car a few bays down in the same building with the group doing the SSR and chatted with them a bit.  They also had the CTS-VR prototypes that never saw the light of day.  Supercharged 650-ish hp ... fun while it lasted :)
  23. :usa:
  24. The Prowler. What'd I win?
