  1. It's an AR, it barely kicks at all.   If the buffer is slamming into the stop, you likely have an over-gassed rifle.
  2. If people were half as interested in their child's education as they are in the minutia surrounding a football team at a university they didn't attend, the world would be a much better place.    Related:  http://ftw.usatoday.com/2014/03/whistleblower-says-this-148-word-paper-earned-a-unc-athlete-an-a-minus/
  3.     Except that the only one getting the revenue is the manufacturer of the camera.  I believe they get the lion's share of money.
  4.       Yes.         Technically no it's not Boeing, its Rolls Royce.    Boeing makes the airframe, Rolls Royce made the engines.  Typically, Boeing sells the airframe to some holding company that then leases the airframe to the airline.  Then either the airline or the holding company leases the engines from the manufacturer (Rolls Royce in this case).   The engine data is transmitted back to Rolls Royce, Boeing likely never sees it.  And as has been stated several times previously, that data is only engine operating parameters.  It contains no information related to the aircraft's location.  I presume triangulating the source of the transmission would be possible, but only if the transmission was received by more than one receiver and that's not likely in the middle of the Indian Ocean.
  5. Hey, it doesn't say "no thumbs"....   http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Dka54jH9po
  6. Ding! It really, REALLY hurts if you fall on a gun. I slipped and fell on a spot of ice once while carrying SOB. I didn't land squarely on the gun, but it was enough. Just a really nasty bruise but it hurt for weeks. I do not recommend SOB carry for any reason. I've also fallen off the motorcycle a time or two. While they were relatively minor and good gear saved my hide, Having something hard right next to my body would've made things a lot worse. I empty my pockets when I ride.
  7. ... and there aren't hundreds of nuclear power plants simultaneously flying all over the world at 500 mph.
  8. Good riddance....    :hiding:
  9. Reactive targets of any sort....  water balloons, flour balloons, steel targets (dueling tree?), clay birds, jugs full of water with a little food coloring, ...  everybody likes blowing stuff up.    And finish off the day with some tannerite, but don't tell them.  Make up some sort of contest and the winner gets first shot at a "special" target.
  10. I don't carry often on the bike.  I can't run the gun effectively while wearing my riding gloves and it takes far too long to take them off.  Accessing the gun underneath the gear isn't real easy either.
  11.     That's the type of snow we get here.  Wet, sloppy, and the wind just cuts right through you.    If you go to a place where it gets cold and stays cold, the snow isn't so bad.  It's much drier.  I've had colleagues from Winnipeg visit here in the winter and comment on how cold the wind is here.  25 deg here feels as cold or colder than -25 deg there.
  12. Rabbit season! Duck season! Rabbit season! Yes, I sit and watch Looney Tunes with my kids. :) And it just occurred to me.... I will be able to carry around this knife that Dad made for me a while back. :woohoo:
  13.   Yep.  I honestly haven't been in Bass Pro in years.  Last one I visited was killing time on a business trip to Cincinnati.  The only one around here is much too far away to warrant a trip just for that.  Cabela's makes Bass Pro look like a Dollar General.  Academy has better prices on everything.  Meh.     The constantly out of stock issue is proof positive that the bean counters run the show.  They don't understand the concept of sales lost due to lack of stuff to sell.  They just mumble unintelligible things about aged inventory and turns.
  14. Jimmy Hoffa highjacked it.      They've never been able to find him either.
  15. Just because its normal doesn't make it suck any less.
  16. I work with several and will inquire.  What slot are you applying for?
  17. What they said... pass or have it replaced as condition of the sale.
  18. Thanks folks, I needed a good laugh this morning.  :)     To the OP... I'd do exactly what you did, put up some signs and maybe get a game camera just to see what's really going on.  I'd see what's on the camera before installing razor wire, high voltage fencing, and landmines.  I'd also figure out a way to get the dog down there when she's alone with the kids. If your wife doesn't have her HCP already, this might provide a little motivation for her to get it.
  19. Commonly used in cars with automatic headlights.
  20. By all means, get one. Just don't wave it around while walking past a school. Ho, ha, parry, dodge, spin, thrust...
  21. Man... flashbacks... Haven't seen those in ages, but had to use them as a kid. Good for building forearm strength...
  22. Put a moisture barrier between the safe and the concrete.  Yes, the anchors can usually be found at any hardware store.
  23.     Exactly.  It'll take some nitwit doing something really stupid to create some case law to determine how exactly the law will be interpreted.
  24. I felt sure the FAA's restriction on commercial operation of drones would be challenged in court.  The lines between a "drone" and a "toy" are quite blurry.  The only distinction appears to be commercial use.              The 400 ft ceiling is intended to keep drones/toys away from other aircraft which typically shouldn't be below 500 ft.
  25.     The world is a big place.  It's easy to lose small things like airplanes.   Best I can tell, the current search area looks to be roughly 250,000 square miles.   Given the size of the pieces of stuff that have been found via satellite images (25-30ft) ... that's like looking for something that's 0.000027" in diameter on the floor in your 2000 sqft house.  The fact that they find anything is pretty astounding to me.
