    This.  Or just pick a light load.  Given that home defense use will likely be at very close range, those 3.5" magnum shells aren't really necessary.  Also consider that in the very unfortunate event she actually has to use it in self defense, recoil won't exist.

I can't carry at work so that limits me a bit.  If I'm out with the family, I'm carrying everywhere I can.

I wish mine would go faster.  I won't even wheelie.  :(     Some friends and I built a couple mowers in college.  The first was a front engine mower.  We removed the deck and did every hot rod trick we could come up with on it.  If you put it in top gear, held the throttle wide open, and dropped the clutch,... it'd pull the front wheels about 18" in the air and carry them a good 30 ft.  It would run a good 30 mph.  We had a course laid out in the woods around a friend's house and used it for drunk driving practice.  There were 2 rules... you had fail field sobriety tests and you had to wear a helmet.  :cool:   The second was a rear engine mower to which we bolted a large recliner.  We even made hand controls so you could drive it while reclined.  It made a fun project for a few bored engineering students who couldn't afford to go anywhere for spring break.  We thought it was awesome.  The campus police weren't quite so amused.  :cop:   :taunt:

Been a while since I've been to Sevier Indoor Range, but it's always been a nice place with reasonable prices on stuff. 

    Yep.  Cost me about $700 to have the timing belt changed in the wife's mini-van.  That included the other belts, hoses, and such that aren't otherwise accessible.

Everyone makes mistakes, good mechanics fess up when they do. I fail to understand how the car left the service bay with missing parts. When I think I'm done working on the car, the first thing I do is look around for stuff that I might have forgotten to reinstall. At the end of the day, the mechanic should be cleaning up his work area and found the parts. He should have told his boss immediately, who should have called the customer immediately. Sure, that's a bit embarrassing but it's better a lot better than the customer finding it days later.

Seems like spruce is commonly used for firewood in the great white north, and it does appear to split like kindling. I think it has something to do with sapwood in the cold.

A good mechanic is hard to find.    You might go back and chat with the service manager about the long term effects of running the car while missing an air filter (I assume it was sucking unfiltered air).  After all, you did follow that gravel truck down that dusty road for all those miles the other day, and it was pouring rain the day after that...      Reminds me of a friend in college...  He had a nice 300ZX turbo.  Took it to walmart for routine service (oil change, air filter, etc.).  Within a day or two it started running poorly, then just quit completely and appeared to be locked up.  He didn't get a warning light or anything.  Opened the hood to find the air filter housing open and no filter in place.  Looked up and noticed a big hole in the under-hood insulation.  Seems the turbo engine was generating enough vacuum to suck the insulation off the hood and into the engine.  Had it towed back to walmart.  They looked at it and had to towed to the local Nissan dealer.  Walmart ended up paying for a new crate engine from Japan to be installed by the dealer, and a rental car for him for over a month (took 3 weeks just to get the engine).  All because of a missing air filter.  Ouch.

    I haven't bellied up to a bar and ordered a drink anywhere in a long time.  I've had a few growlers filled, but haven't ordered a drink in ages.  I've never understood why people pay $10 (or more!) for a couple beers in a noisy bar when you can get a whole 6-pack for that.

    Right.  Always negotiate price, never payments.    I hate buying cars from dealers.  It really annoys me when a salesman is completely clueless about what he's selling.  And that goes for anything, not just cars.   I've walked out of a couple dealerships before we even got to talking money because the salesman was completely ignorant of features on the car.

    There's not a limit on moonshine either. 

    Grandpa (my Dad) has a crew cab truck.  The boys love riding in grandpa's truck.  I've got an SUV and a utility trailer.  If I didn't have the trailer, I'd have a truck, though likely not a black diesel dually.       I'm told that you can get a better price sometimes if you finance through the dealer.  They think they're gonna make money on the financing so they'll ease off the price a little.  Then just pay the whole thing off on the first payment (assuming no penalty for early payment). 

    They don't call me the party pooper for nothing...         True dat.  If I was real nerdy (and had time), I'd figure out the difference between the arc length and straight line.  I suspect scientific notation would be involved.      Fine.  FINE.  See what you made me do....    The difference between the arc length and straight line is 0.000004" for a 6 ft tall person.   That's 4 millionth of a inch.

    Heh... found a unit error above while working through this.  That's what I get doing math while sitting on the toilet...  :)       I used the arc length formula....  s = r * a  where s = arc length (straight line approximation is close enough in this case); r = radius; a = included angle in radians.   1000 yds / 2 yds = 0.002 rad (0.115 deg).   Same formula....  0.002 rad  * 16" sight radius = 0.032"   So a 6 ft target would appear 0.032" tall, if you could even see it at all through the mirage. 

    Been camping?  Drunk any purified water?  Giardia and Crytosporidium could cause similar symptoms.

    I'll admit to a bit of jealousy.    I make a decent living but I sure don't have $40k to spend on a truck.  I also don't have an additional $10k-20k to spend on farkles for said truck.    Seems like lots of these trucks are absolutely spotless.  Inside, outside, underneath, the bed.... everywhere.  So you've built yourself a truck that looks like it could climb Everest, but it's not got a spec of dirt or a scratch on it anywhere?  To me, the whole point of such a beast would be to haul things and go play with in the dirt.  So not only do these guys apparently have lots more money than me, they also have lots more time to sit around polishing their truck.  Sure would be nice to have that much spare time and money.  Wish I could do that.
