I waited until late afternoon to mow for that very reason. Geez it was hot. And the grass had gotten pretty long which makes it even more work to mow. I thought about putting it off another couple days but I'm glad I didn't.

Interesting, that's only a couple miles from my house. I had to work saturday, otherwise it might have been a good opportunity to learn a little more about the enemy.

Our ATT is down last night and today.

How hot is it? Jump to about 2:00, or just enjoy the whole thing... :) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wuk8AOjGURE

What is the proper way to privately buy firearms?
peejman replied to bird333's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Correct. Asking questions #1 and #2 and getting the proper response is legally considered due diligence. No paperwork of any sort is legally required. -
I'd never built an AR before my TGO lower either. I bought a complete upper but the lower build was easy, even if I had to do it twice. Now I just need to find time to go shoot it...

Steel targets--possible damage?
peejman replied to Stegall Law Firm's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Ricochets off steel targets are to be expected, that's why they're supposed to be mounted or held in such a way as to direct the energy downward. Sometimes the bullet doesn't completely disintegrate and large fragments can go flying. The direction is unpredictable if the plate has a rough surface. It'd be easy enough to have a beat-up plate re-surfaced, though that may not be cost effective. The denting in the OP's steel target is normal. -
This. And generally if I'm going to be sitting in the car for any length of time, I take the gun off my hip.

On or Off book; does it matter?
peejman replied to Steelharp's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Doesn't matter to me at all. I always make an effort to perform due diligence to make sure any gun I've bought privately isn't stolen. But even if it was, I'd accept a charge of buying stolen property if that means I'm alive to be charged. -
The newer version is the 155mm, but it's a separate projectile and powder bag. I think the 105 is one of the largest standard brass cased rifle cartridges. Nah, I just target practice with it since .22 is so hard to find...

Didn't know that. Honestly don't know that I've ever been in the Knoxville store, just assumed it was the same as Alcoa. A sporting goods store with no shooting/hunting/fishing section? That's hard to believe.

It's all behind the counter now. The only thing on the shelves is shotgun shells.

I think you've gotten lots of good advice here. If you want to keep the dog, fine. Apartment life with a busy work schedule isn't necessarily conducive to owning a dog, but lots of people make it work. Pit's aren't necessarily for everyone, clearly there's a stigma that you'll have to deal with going forward but they make wonderful pets for many people. Giving her away may or may not be easy. Adult dogs can be hard to find homes for. My experience with rescue groups is similar to that of 56Fordguy. When we tried to give our dog away after she bit my son (the 2nd time), the few rescues that responded basically told us we were horrible people for even considering it. Some extra training for both the dog and the boy, and more awareness on our part seems to have resulted in a truce.

It's a trash can that smells like cordite. :) And technically it's neither mine, nor have I shot it. I just thought its a funny picture. A coworker brought it back with him from England (he's from there). He got it from a relation that did shoot it. It actually flew back in his luggage and it distinctly smells like cordite.

Best Slickum (grease) For Ruger 10/22 Bolt?
peejman replied to Sidewinder's topic in Gunsmithing & Troubleshooting
A friend told me about this stuff.... Mil-Comm TW25B. The fact that it comes in the re-closeable syringe with a small tip is great. It allows you to dispense a very small amount and get it into tight spots without making a mess. I'm told one syringe is a multi-year supply since you don't waste much. http://www.amazon.com/Mil-Comm-TW25B-Grease-Reclosable-Syringe/dp/B000UTOVX8/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1408627715&sr=8-2&keywords=milcomm+tw25b -

I foresee an addition to the "look what I did to my finger" thread.

Cleaned prior to your ownership... likely never. Taking the bolt apart isn't part of the standard "field strip" so it wouldn't get done unless there was a reason, such as slam firing. I've never taken mine apart. I try to remember to make sure the pin moves freely before shooting it, but that's about it.

Its important to start out with good grades. The more class hours you accumulate, the less impact any one class will have on your GPA. If you start out with a high GPA, it's much easier to keep it than it is to bring it up if you start poorly. It's also important to distinguish between the important classes where you really need to thoroughly understand the material and those "check-the-box" classes.

A quick scan of the lottery related scholarship stuff doesn't seem to show any sort of age restrictions. Most appear to be based on high school GPA and/or ACT/SAT test scores. It might be a bit of a challenge coming up with that information if it's been a while, but schools are required to keep those records forever. http://www.tn.gov/collegepays/mon_college.htm http://www.finaid.org/otheraid/nontraditional.phtml

Good point. The firing pin in the SKS should be loose. There is no spring, so if it's stuck the rifle may slam fire.

It might be too late at this point.... but if GA has a lower tax rate on cars, get the dealer to see if there is reciprocity agreement between TN and GA. I bought a car from my uncle in MI (dealer at the time) a number of years ago. I paid MI sales tax when I bought the car. When I registered it in TN, I gave the clerk a copy of the form/BOS stating I'd paid the sales tax in MI when I bought it, so I did not have pay any TN tax. Saved me a few hundred $$.
