  1. Welcome!
  2. Nice.  Got any "before" pics?
  3. We got one for my 6 yr old for Christmas last year.  The first one was a tiny little quad rotor.  It wasn't assembled properly was uncontrollable when we got it.  Once we got that sorted, the 3 minute battery life made learning how to fly it pretty difficult so we traded it for a normal helicopter (I forget the name) which he's much happier with.  He's gotten reasonably good at it, though it's somewhat hard to manage flying around our living room.  It's listed as "indoor only"... the one time I let him fly it outside, I had to climb up on the roof to retrieve it.  It would be best to fly around somewhere like a gym.
  4. I've done my fair share of stupid crap, but stuff can certainly go sideways. When I was in college, a couple drunk guys were messing with a potato gun near campus. They shot one into the air. When it came down, it hit a guy walking back from class. He lost an eye. They went to jail and their fraternity was disbanded.
  5. Dood... that's awesome. Needs a custom leather sheath.
  6. I don't own one, but I'd suggest leaving it mostly filled up and hanging it up in the garage.  I'd keep it out of the weather, direct sunlight, and really hot temps (like the attic).
  7. If you haven't washed it off.... do so immediately!  Eggs will eat the paint....  AMHIK.
  8.     Having gone from apt to house, back to apt, and back to house again...  Houses are expensive but apt's suck.  The rent in a decent apt is the same or more than my mortgage payment.    And 2 cycle engines weren't nearly so finicky before ethanol.  My chainsaw is 30 years old and still runs fine.
  9. Taurus PT145 loaded = 29.5 oz + spare mag = 32.2 oz + holster and mag pouch = 45.5 oz Or P3AT loaded = 11.6 oz + pocket holster = 12.8 oz + spare mag = 16.6 oz
  10.     No, clearly it's not worth it.  Especially not when I think about the hundreds of dollars and many, many hours I've spent trying to fix the damage its caused to my motorcycle.  And now the carb in one of my mowers is dying.    Only the government would be so naive as to think adding some miracle snake oil to fuel (that itself is horribly inefficient to produce) would fix anything.

    spiders

http://www.spiders.us/species/filter/tennessee/   They're good spiders to have around.  They eat lots of other less desirable critters.
  12.     ID to vote?      Yes, it should be valid, but don't be surprised if you get questions about it.
  13. Off topic.... Bought that same quadrotor for my son for Christmas last year. It wasn't assembled correctly from the factory and was completely uncontrollable. Once we got that sorted, the 2 minute battery life made him lose interest quickly. We traded it for a regular helicopter and he was much happier. Still a cool little quad. Flying it in the dark is neat.
  14. Not enough to do much? Other than dramatically accelerating nearly every form of degradation a fuel system is subject to, that's all. Ethanol is a hygroscopic oxidizer. I can't think of anything much worse to add to an open fuel system. Cars with closed fuel systems that were designed with E10 fuel in mind and are driven frequently don't have many problems. Putting that same fuel in small engines that may not get used for months at a time with open fuel systems that were designed 30 years ago, carburetors, and metal fuel tanks.... it's horrible.
  15. What they said....  Get a tent that's rated for at least 1 more person than you intend to put inside it.  My tent is rated for 6 and it's plenty cozy with just 4.  It'd be spacious for 2.    Get good sleeping pads or an air mattress.  If it's just you and the wife, sleeping bags won't really be necessary until it gets cold.  We've been fine with just a bed sheet and a blanket or two.   Get a ground cover / footprint / tarp to put under the bottom of the tent.    Don't take a cheap tent camping in the rain.  It'll leak and you'll be miserable.  A light shower, fine.  Real rain with wind and such... no.
  16. I need to quick being a slacker and get my arms around some reasonable method of water storage.
  17. If there's people involved, it's bound to be imperfect. In very high volume manufacturing there tend to be no small mistakes.
  18. What, no pics of the cut? :D Nice knife. Pardon my ignorance, what's the purpose of a tip like that (or lack thereof)?
  19. Those raspberry pi things are really cool, but my kids are far too screwdriver and hammer oriented for one.  Maybe in a few years.
  20.   No, she was not named in the initial suit, just him as the author and the publisher.  When he was killed it all fell into her lap as executor.  It'd be that way anywhere unless he had a will that named someone else as executor of his estate.
  21.     Right.  He did not sue Kyle's widow.  The lawsuit was filed about a year before he was killed.  Since Kyle's wife was the executor of his estate, she had to deal with it after his death.  That's just how it works.
  22. To the OP.... I gotta admit, that's really, really cool.  Probably right at the edge of my skills, meaning I think I could do that but it would take a looong time.  Having to work for a living really gets in the way sometimes.          Agreed.  Dad built me a treehouse out of left-overs from a deck we tore down and rebuilt.  I spend many an hour playing in it and it was awesome.  If my current yard had trees of acceptable size, I'd like to build one for my kids too.  But they have a pretty sizable playset that they use regularly so I'm not too worried about it.             Yep.  Sometimes it just takes a little nudge and their imaginations will go further than you ever thought possible.
  23.     Very interesting.  While I still think Ventura is a schmuck, this has swayed my opinion of the suit and judgement.
