  1. Be sure they hang at an angle such that any fragments should be directed downward.
  2. Congrats!   Here's a question that will enter your mind once you start working...   Are all machine shop owners assholes, or are all assholes machine shop owners?        Stay diligent to keep your skills fresh.  Modern CNC equipment can quickly turn a machinist into a machine operator.
  3. Glad you got that sorted pretty quickly.  The church I go to is fairly big... 1000-ish typical sunday attendance and full of nice people.  But the pastors and staff try to make it clear that with such a big church, there's no way they can know everything that's going on.  If you need something, speak up.  If you don't involve yourself, its very easy to get lost in the shadows.
  4. I wouldn't worry about it either.  Shoot it with a coat of rustoleum or just wipe it down with an oily rag.  Or from that thread about various lubricants, get a can of that WD-40 long term corrosion stuff.
  5.   This.  I was horrible at sharpening knives for the longest time.  I finally got a Smith's system and practiced on some junk pocket knives.  It took a while but once I got the feel for it, I can do a reasonable job of touching up an edge without it.  Heavy work still requires the guides.
  6. Battery Park is a cool place.  In addition to the usual stuff, check out Ft. Moultrie and the Hunley while you're there.  Enjoy.

    Pocket carry

I have a Hogue Jr. on my P3AT... makes all the difference in the world.
  8.     I guess I figured a few bullets would do an adequate job of deburring the muzzle.
  9.   Note that the primary purpose of the crown is to protect the rifling from damage should you whack the muzzle on something.  A flat muzzle that's square to the bore and deburred will function just fine.    That said, you don't know if it has accuracy problems until you shoot it.

    It's Hot

I waited until late afternoon to mow for that very reason.  Geez it was hot.  And the grass had gotten pretty long which makes it even more work to mow. I thought about putting it off another couple days but I'm glad I didn't.
  11. Interesting, that's only a couple miles from my house.  I had to work saturday, otherwise it might have been a good opportunity to learn a little more about the enemy.
  12. Our ATT is down last night and today.

    It's Hot

How hot is it? Jump to about 2:00, or just enjoy the whole thing... :) http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=wuk8AOjGURE
  14.   Correct.  Asking questions #1 and #2 and getting the proper response is legally considered due diligence.  No paperwork of any sort is legally required.
  15. I'd never built an AR before my TGO lower either.  I bought a complete upper but the lower build was easy, even if I had to do it twice.  Now I just need to find time to go shoot it...
  16. Ricochets off steel targets are to be expected, that's why they're supposed to be mounted or held in such a way as to direct the energy downward.  Sometimes the bullet doesn't completely disintegrate and large fragments can go flying.  The direction is unpredictable if the plate has a rough surface.  It'd be easy enough to have a beat-up plate re-surfaced, though that may not be cost effective.    The denting in the OP's steel target is normal.

    one man band

    Done... :)
  18.     This.  And generally if I'm going to be sitting in the car for any length of time, I take the gun off my hip.
  19. Doesn't matter to me at all.  I always make an effort to perform due diligence to make sure any gun I've bought privately isn't stolen.  But even if it was, I'd accept a charge of buying stolen property if that means I'm alive to be charged.
  20. The newer version is the 155mm, but it's a separate projectile and powder bag. I think the 105 is one of the largest standard brass cased rifle cartridges. Nah, I just target practice with it since .22 is so hard to find...
  21. Didn't know that. Honestly don't know that I've ever been in the Knoxville store, just assumed it was the same as Alcoa. A sporting goods store with no shooting/hunting/fishing section? That's hard to believe.
  22.     It's all behind the counter now.  The only thing on the shelves is shotgun shells.
  23. I think you've gotten lots of good advice here.  If you want to keep the dog, fine.  Apartment life with a busy work schedule isn't necessarily conducive to owning a dog, but lots of people make it work.  Pit's aren't necessarily for everyone, clearly there's a stigma that you'll have to deal with going forward but they make wonderful pets for many people.  Giving her away may or may not be easy.  Adult dogs can be hard to find homes for.    My experience with rescue groups is similar to that of 56Fordguy.  When we tried to give our dog away after she bit my son (the 2nd time), the few rescues that responded basically told us we were horrible people for even considering it.  Some extra training for both the dog and the boy, and more awareness on our part seems to have resulted in a truce.
  24.     It's a trash can that smells like cordite.  :)     And technically it's neither mine, nor have I shot it.  I just thought its a funny picture.  A coworker brought it back with him from England (he's from there).  He got it from a relation that did shoot it.  It actually flew back in his luggage and it distinctly smells like cordite.
