  1. Never heard of it. Marginally afraid to Google it.....
  2. The grid is overloaded this time of year from noon until midnight. There is typically excess power available overnight. This is where "smart" meters and household power distribution systems are nice. Even though you plug your EV in when you get home, it doesn't begin a heavy charge until the A/C isn't working so hard. While this does use more electricity overall, it has the benefit of leveling out the demand which is easier for the utility and producer to manage. There's plenty of electricy intensive businesses that are only permitted to run overnight when usage is otherwise low.
  3. Think he'll get an SRO job offer in Texas?
  4. Check several locations. In my case, the nearest one was booked but a different one was wide open.
  5. Anyone who knows mayo knows Duke's is the only right answer.
  6. TN law says you cannot be (criminally) charged with carrying past a sign if you've used your firearm legally. Laws vary in other states. I suspect this guy will end up in civil court.
  7. It's more of a background check to verify you're in the country legally and an actual resident of the state than the previous drivers license process. You might be shocked to know that there's lots of falsely issued IDs out there. Like the others, I had to renew mine anyway. Strongly suggest you get it done before your passport expires.
  8. Somewhat similar for the hourly folks where I work. Except they can buy back their half point for being late by bringing biscuits for everyone in their group... about 30 people.
  9. 4 way stops. People who refuse to accept that it's their turn. People who can't grasp that it's possible for multiple cars to be moving at once.
  10. Yes, we live a few miles from Coning, Butler, and Rutherford farms. They usually have a direct sell market. Downtown Maryville has a farmers market on Saturday mornings, and there's Horn of Plenty in town who gets a lot of their produce from local farms. And I've also seen the local farm trucks delivering stuff to Food City, Kroger, and *gasp* even Walmart. Depending on where you are in Knoxville, you might find closer things to the north. I think there's several farms in Anderson County that might have markets.
  11. Probably won't. We may get another pot or two from the plants. We talked about going to the farmer's market and getting some to can.
  12. There's few things more disappointing than a pot full of stringy green beans. Yuck. We'll try again next time.
  13. Nice. We got our first pot full the other day. Haven't cooked them yet though.
  14. I was glad we had a few heavy showers before the 4th so the nitwits didn't burn everything to the ground. I mowed yesterday and as I came around the house almost done with the trimming, the sky was black to the north. We got a frog stranger about 10 minutes after I finished.
  15. The kind your gun feeds most reliably and you hit the target with the fastest.
  16. She ordered some online, from Park Seed I think. She also got some seedlings from a local garden place.
  17. Go out in the rain and see how it's washing. Figure out how to redirect the water so it doesn't wash. Then fix the holes.
  18. My wife has gotten into medicinal plants in addition to the herbs we had before. We've slowly switched out our flower beds from decorative stuff to more useful stuff. Most herbs and spices are weeds, and they grow like it. We have dill, basil, lavender, sage, thime, oregano, chamomile, and a huge rosemary.
  19. Mom resorted to that stuff to keep the deer off her flowers (they live in the woods). It worked, but was a fair bit of effort.
  20. Pee around the perimeter of the garden. Or if your neighbors might object to that, visit the local barber and circle it with hair.
  21. Good, still best to call the insurance first. They'll send you their approved plumbers for an estimate. You can get your own estimates as well and decide if you want to file a claim or not.
  22. We've started getting zucchini, yellow squash, and cucumbers. Everything else is doing well.
  23. Best to call the insurance first then. They could refuse the claim saying whoever you called messed it up.
  24. I'd love to know the story behind this picture.
