  1.     Yep. Generally more trouble than it's worth, and it's possible to do more harm than good.  Some barrels even shoot a little better with some fouling.  It fills in the imperfections.
  2. Welcome!
  3. Got accuracy problem? Of not, it's fine.
  4. I like drag racing, but those guys are morons.  Both of them.  There's so much going wrong there it's hard to know where to start.
  5. Functionally steel is steel. It all expands at the same rate. You can loosen things up with heat, but differential heat is far more effective. If you're working with aluminum or magnesium in particular, there is no outward sign when you've ruined the heat treatment. Magnesium can lose much of its strength when heated to as little as 350 deg, depending on the specific alloy. Both of them do melt "all of a sudden", but they're both completely soft long before you get them that hot.
  6. Like I said above, heat guns are too slow. They heat everything up slowly which doesn't accomplish anything. You need to heat the slide relative to the sight which means putting a torch on the slide and working very quickly before the sight heats up too. You could also dry putting some dry ice on he sight to cool it while heating the slide. That said, isn't there a purpose made sight pusher for XD's?
  7. Yep. Heat and Kroil. Don't put the whole slide in the oven. Heating the whole thing defeats the purpose. You need to heat the slide but minimize the heat applied to the sight. You want the slide to expand more than the sight. Nah. You can heat the slide until it's cherry red and it won't hurt it. It will ruin the finish, but the metal will be fine.
  8. Nothing like that sound. Can't imagine what hundreds of them sounded like. My wife is in San Antonio and said there's a B-17 and B-25 giving rides there.
  9. You'll get it when you get it.  Sometimes 4 days, sometimes 4 weeks.
  10.     Greenback born and raised African-American fish.  I got them from a friend formerly in the fish mongering business.
  11. There's a big difference between a someone you disagree with and a raving lunatic who's clearly a danger to himself and anyone who happens to be nearby when things go sideways. And they will go sideways.
  12. Yep, excellent photography. Confirms that I'm a hack.
  13. Here's our fish tank. Had it set up and running for a little over a week before we got the fish. Fish have now been in there about a week and seem to be doing really well. The kiddies love it. Sorry the back lighting makes for bad pictures.
  14. Keep in mind that solar panel efficiency will be at its worst through hunting season... sun angle, cloud cover, etc.  I'd also watch the temp on that heat sink carefully and consider adding some heat shielding to the floor above the power center.    That said, near 20A output at 15V is pretty impressive.  That should be plenty of juice.
  15. Meh.... all they see is a faceless corporation that they think has deep pockets.  They just want their payday.
  16.      It's a Glock, carry it and don't worry about it.
  17.     Not necessarily...  the hardened surface that's created during the tennifer process is very thin...  typically 0.001" or less.  Depending on the method of removing the top coating, the hardened surface underneath could easily be compromised or removed completely.
  18. Depends on who you know.  A coworker has hunted within the park boundaries.... but he was assisting his son, a TWRA officer, to control the pig population at the time.         Yeah, but the park rangers don't like it when you start shooting at the tourists.
  19. What do you like to do?  There's lots of options in the Chattanooga or Knoxville areas.      For an anniversary weekend, I'll throw this out there... Take your wife to a show at the Cumberland Co. Playhouse and stay at the McCoy Place B&B.  My wife and I have been to the playhouse several times and stayed at that B&B twice.  It's a very quiet and relaxing place.
  20. Your best camo is being still.
  21. Awesome.
  22. There was a rod run a couple week ago too.  Traffic was heavy everywhere.
  23.         The load rating is 40lb/sqft, but that is for the entire floor.  The actual strength is much higher.  I think the safety factors is typically 3-4.  The 300 lb guy walking is shear strength of the floor, which is much higher than the load rating.  And as I stated above and explained at length in the article I linked, it depends a lot on how the floor/house is designed and where you sit the aquarium.  Wood does stretch over time.  If you sit something heavy in one spot and leave it there a long time, the wood will stretch and sag over time which can cause lots of other problems.  This is an instance where a little forethought, knowledge, and preparation (if necessary) can prevent a big problem later.    The floors in my house are wavy as hell and I can feel it move in a few places, so I'm not super confident in the quality of construction.  I'm also the nerdy engineer type and what I've seen in the limited work I've done on the house decreases my confidence even more.  So I installed some extra support, just in case.  $50 in materials and a half day's work is worth it to help me sleep better.
  24. No.  A license is required to possess a handgun in NJ.    http://www.handgunlaw.us/
