  1. Best price on Stihl probably at your local farmers coop unless you catch a sale at a big box store.
  2. Nice. Being able to sharpen a knife reasonably well is pretty satisfying for me. I think most any of the sharpening systems are at least a 9 on a 1-10 scale. I only got the Smiths because I had a Dicks gift card and that's all they had. Using it for a while has improved my freehand sharpening skill noticeably. Instead of making edges more dull, I can now make them less dull. :D
  3. Meh. If you've got kids, you've already got the germs. It's inevitable.
  4. Just a fairly basic Smith's system with a strop to finish it off. Helps a hack like me cut a decent edge.
  5. Agreed. I'll try most anything... Haggis, yep. Kimchi, yep. Horse, yep. The stuff I won't eat has been confirmed and reconfirmed. And add shashimi to that list. It just tastes like raw fish (and I like fish). Yuck.
  6. So I decided that I'd spend this lovely afternoon sharpening various kitchen knives, my pocket knife, and a utility knife or two. All went well until I got to my kershaw pocket knife. There was some sort of strange double bevel near the tip on one side of the blade. Took lots of work with the coarse diamond stone to clean that up. But did clean up and is razor sharp again. I have a habit of testing the quality of my sharpening job by shaving a bit of hair off the back of my hand. After a dozen or so knives, the back of my hand is nearly bald now, so I'm bare handed. And I only cut my finger once. :D.
  7. I will admit hot sauce will fix a lot of things. But it won't fix beets, cottage cheese, asparagus, collard greens, probably a few more.
  8. Been there, and it sucks. Had to hold my young 'un down while the doc stitched him up. Not the most fun I've ever had.
  9. A gun without a round in the chamber is nothing more than an expensive hammer.
  10. Happy turkey day folks.
  11. I put it where I liked it best combined with my BUIS and that happens to be over the mag well.
  12.   I've always printed off a copy of the pdf and cut it down so it fits reasonably in my wallet.  It'd be useless if it got wet, but I've also got the hunter's ed course card with my TWRA number so hopefully they could look it up that way.  But more hopefully it wouldn't come to that.
  13. Look into both 1-way and local rentals.  Sometimes a 1-way rental will be more expensive if the location you pick wants that truck back.  Unless they're really big items, you might be able to rent (or even borrow) a trailer that the stuff would fit in.
  14. Page 23 of the hunting guide addresses this...  http://www.tn.gov/twra/pdfs/huntguide.pdf   It says the mobile app contains and should self-populate the harvest log, so that's all the officer should need to see.  Though if you happened to be in the woods with no cell service, I'm not sure where it would go from there.    If you use regular internet check-in or a physical check station, you must keep your receipt OR fill out a harvest log.    I looked into it because I don't recall ever hearing/reading about a harvest log before.
  15. I've used the Honeywell t-stat's from Lowes for Home Depot for years.  They have various versions for different systems with different options.  They've always been pretty easy to install.    http://yourhome.honeywell.com/home/products/thermostats/
  16. Yep... he looks like he got taked to the ground and disarmed.  Several times.
  17. Welcome!
  18. Then the "aux" mode is running the heating elements to help the heat pump. The "emergency" mode is only the heating elements. The unit consumes a lot of electricity in either mode. Tennessee is about as far north as you'll see heat pumps. The latest and greatest heat pumps can run relatively efficiently down to about 30 deg, while a older unit might only work to 40 deg. Below that they just don't work real well, particularly if the house isn't exceptionally well insulated.
  19. State Farm may not just "cut you a check".  They may only give you a portion of the money now and only pay the rest after you provide a receipt showing the car got fixed.  That's what they did when my house got storm damage.
  20.     I don't disagree, but you're comparing apples and chainsaws.  Yes, turbine blades are cast but so is every other metal part in existence.  All metals start out as a casting.  Some parts (like turbine blades) are cast in a very specific way to yield very specific properties for a very specific purpose.  Other parts go through a wide variety of processes between casting and finished product (like extruding and forging mentioned above) that have huge effect on the end result.    It's nothing like making MIM parts or sintered powdered metal parts, other than it involves metal.
  21. Interesting.  I'll be curious to see some other reviews.
  22.     Ok, a little reading tells me that yes, there are some rotating parts made from powdered metal.  But, they're processed very differently from the typical MIM or sintered parts you'd find in things like cars or guns.    https://www.atimetals.com/businesses/powdermetals/markets/Pages/Aerospace.aspx
  23.     Jet engines.... you sure about that?  I work on them daily and have never seen an MIM part in any sort of structural application.
  24. Not legally no.  Deadly force is only permitted when defending life, not property.  If the BG's are stealing your car and leaving you alone, you're obliged to let them.     That said... this happened inside a gated parking lot?  Do they have cameras?
  25. Yep, it'll work.  It may not keep the far end of the house toasty warm, but your central heat will run less often and you'll benefit from cleaner air and slightly higher humidity in the house.  Check your air filter at least monthly.... it'll clog up mush faster with the fan running all the time.  Depending on the layout of your house, running the fan 24/7 may help reduce your energy usage year round.
