  1.     The news this morning said he's scheduled to speak at Pellissippi at about 1pm, so I'd guess arrival anywhere between 10am-noon.  My guess is the roar of the fighters will give it away.    I'm almost due south of the airport and right in the pattern, so it depends on which direction the wind is blowing.   If they approach from the south, they'll fly right over us.  If from the north, we won't see it until they leave.  Current wind says SW12.
  2.     Congrats!  That is indeed a beautiful sunset.    Start slow, one thing at a time.  It'll take several years to get to where you want to be.    I'd start with a garden.  While a tractor isn't compulsory, it sure would make things a lot easier.  I don't know how big the trees are that you're pulling with the FJ, but I'd be real careful about not killing the transmission... they're not make for that kind of work (but a tractor is  ;) ).    You'll likely need to call a pond expert to see what the story is there.  Fixing a leaky pond can be a lot of work.
  3.     If you're not comfortable with the dogs running loose, ask the owners to contain them.  If they don't, call the local animal control.  Dogs not permitted to "run at large" in TN... it's a state law.
  4. I work a couple miles from the airport.  I kinda want to see Air Force 1 fly over, just for the novelty of it.  I've seen it one time before when Reagan visited Chattanooga when I was a kid.  We don't see many 747's here.  Otherwise, I'm glad they're headed the opposite direction.
  5. Amazing how a little walk in the other guy's shoes can change one's perspective.  Even if it's only a 10 second walk.  Kudos to the activist guy for agreeing to the training and even more so having the news crew along.    ...and holy crap that "BG" was big!
  6. Apparently there was another one this morning in France.  I get the "copy cat" vibe, but who knows...     http://www.usatoday.com/story/news/world/2015/01/08/french-terror-suspects-manhunt/21429427/
  7.   Coyotes have put a big dent in the fox population.  One more reason to kill more coyotes.
  8. Cool. They're fantastic rodent population control.
  9. Right. The shipping notice is from ups.
  10. Paying your (our) social security would imply they've got a job. My retirement plan assume neither social security nor Medicare. I think both will either be completely gone or nothing like what our parents get. Edit ... and I'll admit to having hit a girl in anger once. She sucker kicked me in the balls for no reason and I punched her square in the mouth before I collapsed. It busted her lip and nose but thankfully didn't knock out any teeth.

    We're #4

I think Alaska's ranking has to do with their relatively low population by comparison.  There's less than 1M people in AK and the vast majority live in a couple areas.  Also notice from the article that the rate of violent crime in the Memphis area is 3x higher than the state average.
  12. This is our rotten useless good-for-nothing hunk of dog flesh, aka hound of the baskervilles, aka bad dog, aka Opal. Her coloring as a puppy very much resembled a black opal and she's gotten darker as she's gotten older. She's 13 now. We believe she's a dalmatian (or is that damnation?) blue heeler mix which I wouldn't recommend to anyone. We got her from a shelter as a very sick puppy. As a puppy she was deathly afraid of tall men in dark pants which tells me there's abuse in her past. Major separation anxiety followed that we never really fixed, just learned how to better deal with it. A few years later epilepsy showed up. Then we had kids and she's bitten my oldest boy twice, the 2nd time requiring a few stitches. Now it's just cranky old age and arthritis. In her prime, she was the fastest dog I've ever seen. I've seen her run down a deer in an open field.
  13.     I don't necessarily disagree with you, but I'd consider that one cop to be very brave or very stupid.  Going up against 2 guys with rifles and body armor with only a pistol?  Either way, it cost him his life.
  14. I'm not sure that poking the bear is ever a good idea, but that's pretty darn funny.
  15. I placed an order on the 22nd (not a firearm) and got a shipping notice yesterday.   I ordered a pistol from them a couple years ago.  I sent the FFL stuff and never got any sort of response from them... until my FFL called a couple weeks later and said it was here.  As Eray said, they don't pay an army of people to man the phones and answer email.  Relax, you'll get it.
  16. The header is stronger than you think, but the best practice is to make use of the 2-stroke power band and keep weight off the front tire. http://www.motorcycle-usa.com/318/1524/Motorcycle-Article/Riding-Tip-with-Mason-Harrison.aspx
  17. Sounds like a good plan to me. No reason to change the brakes if they're working to your satisfaction. Edit... PCV valve?
  18. It tried some Gentleman Jack at my parents house over the holidays. I've never really cared for regular Jack and thus never bothered with anything else of theirs, but Dad had a bottle open, the kids had been at one another all day, and I needed a drink.... :bat: the Gentleman was good stuff. Smooth with a mild flavor. I was pleasantly surprised.
  19.   I pulled the TB off the first time but subsequent cleanings have been in situ.  I've read that the battery disconnect issue with these is the drive-by-wire throttle.  If you move the butterfly manually with the power on, it screws up the calibration for the two position sensors and there's some gyrations necessary to re-calibrate them.    On the wife's van I learned that when you disconnect the battery, you must also pull the horn relay.  Reconnecting the battery sets off the alarm.  You'd be amazed at how difficult reconnected the battery cable is with the horn blaring in your ear 6" away.     Isn't there something that comes up here from time to time regarding loss of fine motor skills when under duress?  :ugh:
  20.     All dogs have that switch.  The larger and more powerful the dog, the great the inherent danger.  When the whites of their eyes turn red, it's game on.    I've seen way more chihuahua's snap and go completely nuts for no apparent reason than I have pits.  In fact, I've never personally seen a pit snap.  But chihuahua's don't kill people when they do snap.  My wife wants a pit, she thinks they're wonderful.  My opinion is absolutely not.  No pure breeds, no mixes, no nothing even resembling one.  I refuse to live with the stigma and more importantly in today's litigious society, I refuse to accept the liability.  I love dogs and have had them all my life in spite of allergies.  But at the end of the day, it's just a dog.
  21. The Knoxville Ice Bears play at the civic coliseum, which I think is posted but you don't typically get searched.
  22. Given how many problems there are with crud in GM throttle bodies it would appear the coating doesn't do much anyway. I've cleaned mine with carb cleaner and a toothbrush several times. Just be sure to disconnect the battery before you do it.
  23. They're excellent rifles, I really like mine.  Thankfully GP11 is still readily available and not horrendously expensive.    Did you get any accessories?  Sling, muzzle cap, etc.
  24. I was a band geek for a few years.  I've had drinks, ice, cups, and various other trash thrown at me (or in my general direction anyway).  I've heard language that would make Gunnery Sergeant Hartman proud.  There's always more than a few complete and total assholes in every stadium.  They know they'll get in trouble if they do that to the players, but the band?  No one cares about the band.
