Welcome!

Yep. I have a 529 fund for my boys through USAA. Many states offer 529 funds and you typically do not have to be a resident to participate. 529 funds have the benefit of being tax free as long as the money is used for education. They're also transferable should your child get a scholarship. Take that $250 and add $50 per month to it. It'll become a sizable amount in a few years.

Wow! How cool is that? Wish it was closer....

That's not so easy with a DA revolver. Some folks need the extra strength from having the trigger in the joint.

I doubt it's a "we don't want the work" price. What you're asking for is several hours of work per piece. Most machine shops charge $75-$100/hr. Getting a 4ft piece of pipe straight within a few thousandths is no small task either. So if you need more than 3, yes, you're well past a new Kimber.

You mean you guys don't take your Barney with you shooting?

Yep. The brain has the capability to turn things on/off during times of extreme stress. The nerves can "tilt" out. Similar to why babies fall asleep when you take them to a place that's loud and/or has lots of people. They're over stimulated and can't process all that's happening so their brain puts them to sleep as a defense mechanism. -
A simple google search for tire bead breaker will yield all manner of method to bread beads. If you're replacing worn out tires, I see no sense in wasting time with stubborn tires, just cut them off and be done with it. I got my bead breaker from JC Whitney for about $75 years ago, but it appears they don't sell it anymore.

Nice! Can you get all 4 fingers on the grip?

Yep, that one was excellent. Almost too much detail, but very well done. Paul Giamatti was fantastic.

This. Proper tools, lube, and warm tires make it easy. If you're sweating and cussing, you're doing something wrong.

Anyone know of a place that does Motorcycle restorations?
peejman replied to vontar's topic in General Chat
I can't think of a restorer specifically, but I can think of several people who I'd ask for recommendations... In addition to being mindful of CO, you also need to think about H2O. Propane combustion produces a lot of water vapor. Be wary of condensation which can result in corrosion and mold.

I'm gonna have to try this, just to scare the neighbors if nothing else. :) -
Metro Nashville Public Schools is eliminating Algebra and Geometry.

As much as people rant about the common core stuff, have you talked with your child's teachers? Do you help your child with their homework? I'm continually surprised by the difficultly of my 1st grader's homework, the reading and vocabulary in particular. I dare say there's more than a few high school graduates that would struggle to spell some of the words he's expected to read and spell. My mom taught low level high school math for years, I won't be surprised to see my kids doing work of similar difficulty by the 3rd or 4th grade. Is common core different? Yep. Is that a bad thing? I don't have a firm opinion yet, but so far I don't think so. Does it kinda suck for the kids stuck in the middle who are having to change the way they learn somewhat and catch up to the new standards? Of course it does. But if you always do what you always did, you'll always get what you always got. Kids today have to compete on a global level very early on. While I do think test results from other countries aren't fully on the up and up, it would seem clear that the US isn't leading the pack anymore. Continuing to do the same things won't fix that. I will add that this idea that every kid need to go to college is nonsense. This free 2 yr community college stuff is not the right place to start. Trade schools need to be the starting point. The US was built on its ability to make things, but we've transitioned to service providers. If you want to restore the economic might, you must start at the fundamental level of simply building things. If there's not people who know how to build things, having the technology is irrelevant. You'll never get past step 1. -

Finally bought new lights for my utility trailer
peejman replied to rugerla1's topic in General Chat
My trailer was originally built to haul a motorcycle, hence the gate. I don't think I could see my trailer at all without the gate, backing up would be awful without it. When you build one, make it the easily removable kind. Mine is bolted on and the bolts are so rusty I'm sure I'd have to cut them off. As for the grade 8 bolts, you'll break the brackets long before you bend those bolts. -
Holy crap! If that's completely real, that's.... Just wow.

Yep, they should be available in the store. They have a couple different sizes. http://www.tractorsupply.com/en/store/flip-type-ring-anchor-5000-lbs-load My trailer has a rear gate/ramp so I got some reflectors and attached them to the gate. TSC has those too. -
Metro Nashville Public Schools is eliminating Algebra and Geometry.
peejman replied to JohnC's topic in General Chat
Maybe Nashville is different than redneck-ville east TN, but I feel certain they're not going to stop teaching algebra and geometry. They're just changing the names of the classes to something less scary sounding. Kinda like Comcast changing it's name to Xfinity... I've had conversations with my kid's teachers about the common core stuff and they all think it's stupid too. They view it as nothing more than the current fad and are patiently waiting for it to pass. -
anyone have first hand experience?
peejman replied to graycrait's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Meh... I'd guess it's just a glass or carbon reinforced polymer. It doesn't tell you anything about dimensional stability and consistency of the end product. Their "heat" test is also completely bogus. Of course it takes longer than 30 seconds for the hand guards to heat up. Let it soak for a couple minutes and see how hot they are. -

Nice! Utility trailers sure are handy. Mine also has a mini-van rear axle and it works great. The trailer itself is really heavy for it's size, but it's built like a tank. I've ridiculously over-loaded it a couple times and it pulled just fine. I also recently upgraded from 14" wheels to 15" because the tires had dry rotted. Mine could also stand to be re-painted... how many rattle cans did it take to cover it? $30 for the submersible LED light kit is a good deal. I've been thinking about upgrading the lights on my trailer as well. There's a TSC right next to where I work so I may stop in there and pick that up. I also like the tie-down brackets you've got, my trailer could use a few more of those.
