  1. Yep, about 2 months before they can go outside.  Farmer's Almanac says last frost is April 6, so now is probably a good time.
  2. Unfortunately it takes a company with the resources ($$) of Sig to butt heads with the government over such things.  Though it seems clear that someone well up in the hierarchy at Sig doesn't like the ATF and is intentionally pushing the boundaries.
  3.         https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RrZlWw8Di10
  4. My wife volunteers with a local raptor rehabber. They see all kinds of strange things. People can be exceedingly ignorant.
  5. If I don't recognize the number or it's not in my contacts, I don't answer.  Ever.  If it's important, they'll leave a message.  If not, I didn't want to talk to them anyway.
  6.   Hide the wife?  Why would I do that?
  7.       Yes.... nearly everything negotiable.  Don't be afraid to ask, the worst they can say is no.    And yes, interviewing for jobs you don't want is excellent practice, particularly if you're thinking about a move but haven't interviewed in a while.  Go on a couple that you have little interest in just to get your mind back in the interview mode.  Take a note pad and make notes of stuff along the way or afterwards.  Did they stump you with a hard question?  Surprise you with something unexpected?  Look it up, write it down, and have the perfect answer queued up for the next time.  Do your homework on the company you're interviewing with.  Don't be afraid to ask them hard questions (much easier when you're not afraid to annoy someone).  You might be surprised by the answers you get.
  8. If you want a fixed rear sight, I'd also recommend the carry handle.  That makes the rifle eligible for NRA highpower and service rifle matches.
  9. Other than rifles specifically set up for long range work where optics are necessary, I've never understood why one wouldn't have iron sights.   And that's not just AR's but any rifle.
  10. Is an outhouse an option?
  11. Welcome!
  12. Welcome!
  13. Yep, that sounds kinda crappy.  I've never understood why some employers are so rigid with regard to time off and/or schedule variations.  If it's a production line type environment, I get that.  But if its not time critical, what's the big deal?    Given the option, I'd work 6-3 but I can't get in bed early enough to pull that off.  I also understand the "on call" part (I am too), our 2nd shift runs until 2am.  On the odd occasion I do get a call, I can usually deal with it over the phone.  Thankfully having to go back in is very rare.  My employer is also pretty flexible with schedule.  Being salaried-exempt I get paid to do the job regardless of the the hours (which rather sucks).  So as long as I get my work done and no one complains, they can't really say much.
  14. I'm not up on the laws in Minnesota, but I'm surprised he's legally allowed to carry during a city council meeting.
  15. Thanks for this.  I've been meaning to pick up a CD or something for my kids to listen to.  Jerry came up in conversation at work a while back, one of our interns had never heard of him.  :panic:    He was educated shortly there-after.  :)
  16. I wouldn't spend any money on it if you're thinking of future value. If you just want to, go for it.
  17. Yep. I have a 529 fund for my boys through USAA. Many states offer 529 funds and you typically do not have to be a resident to participate. 529 funds have the benefit of being tax free as long as the money is used for education. They're also transferable should your child get a scholarship. Take that $250 and add $50 per month to it. It'll become a sizable amount in a few years.
  18. Wow! How cool is that? Wish it was closer....
  19. That's not so easy with a DA revolver. Some folks need the extra strength from having the trigger in the joint.
  20. I doubt it's a "we don't want the work" price. What you're asking for is several hours of work per piece. Most machine shops charge $75-$100/hr. Getting a 4ft piece of pipe straight within a few thousandths is no small task either. So if you need more than 3, yes, you're well past a new Kimber.
  21. You mean you guys don't take your Barney with you shooting?
  22.     Yep.  The brain has the capability to turn things on/off during times of extreme stress.  The nerves can "tilt" out.  Similar to why babies fall asleep when you take them to a place that's loud and/or has lots of people.  They're over stimulated and can't process all that's happening so their brain puts them to sleep as a defense mechanism.
  23. A simple google search for tire bead breaker will yield all manner of method to bread beads. If you're replacing worn out tires, I see no sense in wasting time with stubborn tires, just cut them off and be done with it. I got my bead breaker from JC Whitney for about $75 years ago, but it appears they don't sell it anymore.
