I did the free trial thing a few years ago. Got my Dad's side of the family back 9 generations to the generation that was born in England and came across the pond in the mid 1700's. That was pretty interesting. Got basically zip on my Mom's side of the family, less than what people currently living knew. I think the majority of the info on my Dad's family was dug up by one of my aunts a number of years ago.

I also want to be left the hell alone while at the range. It's my "me time" and I don't get much of that. A little friendly conversation is fine, otherwise piss off. :) At the same, given the number of mouth breathing imbeciles I've seen, I'd much prefer they not be handling their weapons while I'm down range. You never know who's hunting rifle has a home spun "2lb" trigger job with negative engagement so severe it'll discharge if the snail under the bench farts. This is genius.

I see mine in that pic. :woohoo:

This weekend was fantastic. We spend the entire afternoon yesterday playing with the kids and we all got nicely sun burned as a result. :) Looks like we've got a whole week of rain to recover. :-\

Looking to build a personal range.

Noise will be your biggest issue. An adequate backstop will be the next most important. My parents live in Soddy Daisy. It's a nice little suburb of Chattanooga, and the sound of gun fire on a nice weekend isn't exactly unusual. But as with most any area, you'll have to be outside the city limits to do any shooting. -
Renewing my HCP in the morning
peejman replied to rugerla1's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
I renewed mine by mail a month or two ago. I just filled out the form and mailed it with a check. The check likely being the most important part. -
Hope you got some road time in this weekend. I got to chase the little one around the yard for about 20 minutes.

It took a lot not to whip someone's ass today

Wow. There's really some sorry people in this world. He'll get his. -
Been there a bunch. My kids love it. Plenty of rides, shows, and games for most all kids. Typically some good live music being played. Various crafts people making stuff (blacksmith, leather smith, carriage shop). Yep, it's expensive (food, parking, souvenirs, ...) But no more so than any other similar park. Very crowded at the typical times (weekends, holidays, etc.). I don't mean to offend anyone, but Splash Country can be white trash central. Some things can't be unseen...

Nice knife. How is that belt attachment supposed to work?

That's exactly what I first thought... Burl. Very nice!

This is why soft holsters are bad
peejman replied to Dustbuster's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Has much less to do with the relative hardness of the holster as it does the worn slap out-ness of the holster and lazy/cheapness of it's owner for either not recognizing the problem, fixing it, or both. -
Agreed. He's a very accomplished pilot. Engine failure immediately following take-off is just about the worst case scenario. I'm impressed that he got it turned around and found a soft spot to put it down. Those airplanes aren't very good gliders, I'd bet it was falling like a rock.

Yep. Should be fine by tomorrow afternoon.

Oppsy Daisy, accidently stripped my bluing, what now?

 Rustoleum, Krylon, ... whatever. Accuracy may improve a bit with use as the lead from the bullets should fill in the pitting to some extent. -
"Everything mechanical breaks eventually"... my Glock 19 did.

A broken Glock... :stunned: :screwy: :panic:  :) I presume they'll just send you a new slide. -
If you guys have other suggestions on how to keep bermuda from coming back, I'm all ears. I've found nothing else that works.

Any ATV drag racing around Lebanon or Nashville?

Yes, asphalt. I don't know about dirt drags. This works for me... http://www.mtdragway.com/ -
Any ATV drag racing around Lebanon or Nashville?
peejman replied to maroonandwhite's topic in General Chat
Back in the day (aka... 15-20 years ago), Buffalo Valley and I-40 (Crossville) dragstrips would let ATV's run on "test & tune" nights if you just wanna go play. They weren't allowed to bracket race. I think I-40 is closed though. Probably best to call and ask. http://www.mtdragway.com/ -
That's basically what I had in mind. Note that there's a newer model.... http://www.amazon.com/Dolica-GX600B200-Proline-60-Inch-Aluminum/dp/B004XC3GWU/ref=dp_ob_title_ce I had this one in my wish list, which looks pretty similar... http://www.amazon.com/dp/B002W0N7VA/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_S_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=18VLFA99FGJOY&coliid=I1COW9LE2OWSJ0 I got a fairly nice Manfrotto 190XB for work. It's quite sturdy and does everything I'd like, but it is somewhat bulky. At $200, it's also on the pricey side for my purposes.

Bermuda is golf course grass and it doesn't grow waist high, consider yourself fortunate. No amount of hoeing or pulling will kill bermuda. Keep it at bay for a few days? Yes. Kill it? No. And bud clearly knows more about this than I do. I have a very specific mowing pattern to minimize the amount of clippings blown into the flowerbeds. I just wish I could keep my neighbor from blowing his clippings into my garden.

Indeed, very nice! Let's talk gear for minute... Anyone want recommend a decent tripod that's not massively over-priced? I know, I know.... $1000 camera on a $20 tripod... I would like something that will sit reasonably low. Weight isn't a big concern.

Depends on the kind of grass you have and how long the roots are. Sod cutters only take a couple inches. If the roots are deeper than that, the grass will come back. I have a bermuda/fescue mix and the bermuda was by far a bigger PITA to get rid of. You could try covering the whole area with several layers of newspaper to try and smother out the grass, then just till it in.

Clearly you guys don't have kids that like transformers. We just had an Optimus Prime birthday party a couple days ago.
