Interesting that they'd advocate techniques to disarm someone. Seems like untrained folks would see that, do it wrong, and end up hurt or dead. I agree that fighting back is key, but I'm surprised they immediately go into stuff that's fairly advanced and takes lots of practice.

Just a fairly large, thickwalled plastic bag works. Put your stuff in the bag, blow it up with air, and tie the top. Use it as a float while crossing the water.

Yep. Light a piece of paper or strike a match and then blow it out. Rub your fingers over the burned area and then wipe your sights.

Yes, very much so. Bermuda has pro's and con's like anything else, it's slowly taking over my yard. It's very aggressive and spreads quickly. It's very drought and heat tolerance and doesn't require much maintenance. It's very durable. It turns brown at the first frost and stays that way until temps hit the 70's. If the brown bothers you, it can be over seeded with winter rye that'll stay green. Personally, I don't care. Sam, For your enclosed area I'd definitely use the typical fescue type grass. Given how small that is, you could probably sod it for a reasonable price. Now is the perfect time to do it. It's not too hot yet so the grass will have time to get established before the heat of summer arrives. You'll have to water it almost daily for a the first few weeks. The sod folks will tell you what to do.

Depends on how far it is to get home and what you have to cross to get there. I'm fortunate in that I work fairly close to home and don't have to cross any bodies of water, so my bag is fairly minimal. I've got a first aid kit, bug spray, sunscreen, couple water bottles, knife or two, lighter & tinder, hand sanitizer, granola bars, twine, cash, ... that sort of thing.

We went to the Scottish Highland Festival on Saturday and saw these guys. We'd seen them years ago at the Virginia Highlands festival and they were fantastic so we were happy to be able to see them again. Their music is a curious mix of traditional Celtic music infused with good ol' rock and roll. The guitar player is really good and the piper is positively fantastic. Some the songs they write are hilarious... I dig it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBkJ5dF5ckg http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ymHfdS_97LQ http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-p4zJE3oPDM

I disagree. The type of seed sold in the fall won't make it through the hot summer. I have a few spots in my yard where I've patched them with seed in the fall. The grass comes up and looks great until June, at which point it turns brown until October.

Yep. Drums are pretty thin. If you do a burn out, it'll rust quickly afterwards. Paint the outside with high temp paint and leave the inside greasy after cooking. I'd look for a water heater tank or old propane tank. They're much more robust.

Dirt on top of rubber mulch won't work. As mentioned, make sure the ground slopes away from the house. A slight slope is all that's necessary. And I agree, I'd do grass over pea gravel any day. Pea gravel grows weeds like crazy.

Cool. How long is it?

Depends on whether you clean the knife before the officer arrives. "I dunno officer, I guess the car bumper has a sharp edge..."
-
I've heard both sides of the story... In one instance, the responding officer was very appreciative of him not having to do it, given the hassle involved with discharging his weapon. In another instance, the officer gave the person the 3rd degree about having a hunting license, shooting from the road, carrying a loaded weapon, blah, blah, blah. The officer didn't do anything, but wasn't exactly pleasant about it.

There's a truck that I see regularly that does this sort of thing. It's got a sticker on the back that says "Fueled by Haters". My thought was ... "No, fueled by feelings of inadequacy." I ride a motorcycle. I don't like having to breathe or see through diesel smoke, its rather unpleasant. It makes my eyes water and makes me cough. I wonder if that could be considered "assault"?

:sadwave: RIP BB. He came to town a few years ago and I wanted to go but wasn't able to work it out. I had a feeling that might have been my last chance.

That sounds like a bunch of plants, how big are the kennels?

Hey GT Can You Make A Knife Out Of This?

I'd put a little oil on it and scrub it with some scotch-brite. Just enough to remove the scale. -
Has a small issue yesterday in Cookville!

Peace through superior firepower. Funny how well that works. Where exactly was this in Cookeville? -
So my wife sends me a text while I'm at work... Her - looked at the cucumbers lately? Me - Not in a day or two, why? Her - They're not cucumbers. Me - mmmmmkay. So what are they? Her - Dunno, looks like some sort of squash. :D So it would seem we got some mislabeled seedlings. We'll see what the mystery squash turns out to be, and now we have to figure out where to plant the new seedlings amongst everything else that's already in there. Fun fun.

If Dolomite can't do it, most any competent machine shop should be able to, offset or not.

Woman Stabbed to Death on Knoxville Greenway
peejman replied to Oh Shoot's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Chilling indeed. I pass by the Maryville Greenbelt during my commute every day. I regularly see women walking/jogging alone while wearing ear buds. Who knows if this lady was doing that or not, but anytime I see that it just screams "condition white". -
Right... Open carry is legal because the HCP exception doesn't specifically require concealment. Hence TN has a HCP (Handgun Carry Permit) instead of a CCW (Concealed Carry Weapon) license like other states that do require concealment.
-
I couldn't pocket carry any of those. That said, I wouldn't sweat the palm chaffing after 200 rds. I'd bet most anyone would have a sore hand after 200 rds through a pocket gun. My P3AT serves one purpose only, and range toy isn't it. I practice with it to stay proficient, but I don't shoot it for fun. I'd put the highest priority on the one thats easiest/fastest to draw.

Looks like a European Hornet. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_hornet Big, mean, and scary... but they eat other wasps.

Hey GT Can You Make A Knife Out Of This?

Depends on how hard the steel is now. It may not be that hard and could still be fairly easily cut/filed/formed into the desired shape. Otherwise, the heat treat shop you currently use for hardening could easily do the anneal, or most any local machine shop should be able to do it at well. -
I'd love to see him get caught too. If you're certain he's doing it, report him to TWRA or US Fish and Wildlife.
