Tactical Double Rifle Cases at Ollie's in Knoxville
peejman replied to Moped's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I was under the impression (from conversations with others) that it was the same stuff that walmart sells at higher prices, with some of the infomercial crap thrown in for good measure. That said, I've got more rifles than cases now, so a double rifle case for $20 is appealing. -
Tactical Double Rifle Cases at Ollie's in Knoxville

I'll try to remember to stop by there on my way home today. I've never been in there. -
Get her a dedicated carry purse and make sure she understands that the purse has to stay on her person at all times. Get her to practice that now. I bet she'll quickly decide that on body carry is far less intrusive and annoying than fumbling around with a purse. She's gonna need both hands for the young'un, the purse will get dropped, left, etc. And congrats on the upcoming new addition. They change everything.

Shed Plans - What Would You Have Done Differently?
peejman replied to wewoapsiak's topic in General Chat
Bigger. Always Bigger. Draw up a floor plan layout. Measure out all the stuff you think you might put in there, and make sure it all fits with adequate space to walk around it without having climb over stuff or move 5 things to get at that one stuck in the back. I bet the first thing you'll notice is that a 36" wide door is fairly limiting. I'd look at a 48" door. Yes, 6x6 supports. 4x6's at least. Over-build the crap out of it, you'll be glad you did later. Skylights instead of windows. Saves wall space, cheaper and more secure than windows. Gable/soffit/ridge vents for some air flow. Think real hard about running power. It's a whole lot easier now than later. -

It's just tuning the gun to a load rather than tuning a load to the gun. Sometimes there's a magic spot where everything is happy, sometimes not.

Thinking of getting a dog...please choose rescue.
peejman replied to Trekbike's topic in General Chat
A former neighbor had to deal with that. Her dad died and she had to take his dog. The dog went from living with an old man who never left home to living with a busy family who never were home. That poor dog cried and cried for weeks until they found another person to take it. As for rescue dogs, I guess we have the exception. I've had shelter critters my whole life and this one has been a PITA since day 1. Massive separation anxiety, massively anti-social with other dogs, clearly abused as a puppy, ... generally a neurotic mess. She's mostly manageable now, after lots of work and some help from Cesar Milan's books. She'll be 14 this summer. We tried to re-home her after she bit my son the 2nd time (on his forehead, stitches required), but were treated quite poorly by the rescue groups we contacted. More training of both the kids and the dog (and my inability to have her put down) have helped, but there are still occasional bumps in the road. When she passes I think it'll be a while before we get another dog. I'm kinda over it at this point, and that bugs me. I want my kids to grow up with pets they can love, not a dog they have to be somewhat wary of. -
Cool. I'll try to remember that for the next time I'm near there.

Exactly. There was no "auto park" involved. Maybe auto brake or pedestrian detection which obviously didn't work either, if so equipped.
-
Right. Don't ask questions to which you don't want an honest answer.

Need car brake rotors turned/lathed in Williamson County
peejman replied to TGO David's topic in General Chat
In my experience, turned rotors make it half way through the 2nd set of pads. Not worth doing. My wife smoke the brakes off her van and usually doesn't tell me until the backing plate is grinding into the rotor. I look for the same deal at Advance Auto. The only difference between their 1 yr warranty rotors and 2 yr warranty rotors is the warranty and the price. They're the same rotors. -
Battleship ... cool target.

State law preempts that, best of my knowledge. The new park carry law should cover all the parks too, which has always been somewhat in question.
-
Not necessarily. It wouldn't take but a few thousandths (0.001") difference in the firing pins to discharge the rounds at different times. If typical velocity is 950 ft/s, that's 79.2 in/s. If one bullet is 0.5" ahead of the other leaving the muzzle, that's 0.006 seconds. Right, you wouldn't want both to fire at exactly the same time. If you spread them out just a little, that could have a big effect on recoil pulse and stress within the gun. I hadn't thought about the bullets colliding in flight, but that makes sense too. I recall thinking about that when these were first advertised, but forgot until this reminder. One would assume that 2 shots with one trigger pull = NFA item, unless they've got some ruling to the contrary.

Congrats! Bristol is nice.

Yep, I'm at the bottom of the hill. Hearing firearms on the weekend is pretty normal. It'd be a great way to introduce yourself to the neighbors! Top of the World community in an interesting place. There may be some ordinances beyond county laws, you might look into that.

There's so much stupid going on in that video, I'm not sure where to start. Attempted vehicular homicide might be a good place.

Long before we got married, I made my wife change the oil in her car and I also made her change a perfectly functional tire just to prove she could do it (to me and herself). That was before cell phones had decent coverage and we both drove plenty of places where getting a flat at night might not end happily. She didn't know it at the time, but successful completion of those tasks was a condition of our continued association... ;)

Life cycle cost and environmental impact for hybrids is off the scale. The time and energy expended developing the technology far, far surpasses the modest efficiency improvements. The processes used to manufacture and recycle the batteries are far from what anyone would consider "green". And most hybrid owners probably use a 2-stroke leaf blower instead of a rake and a broom. A couple hours with that leaf blower puts more NOx, SOx, and CO2 in the air than driving a Prius for an entire year.

My EDC is a Leatherman Wave and I've got several others (different versions.... one that lives in each car, in my motorcycle, kitchen junk drawer..). My criteria for EDC was the smallest one I could find with both pliers and scissors. I use it frequently but I'm not very hard on it . It's lasted a long time.

Check the price on new rotors. Last time I looked into that, it was $30 to turn them and $45 for new ones. O'Reilly was the only place I could find that would do it around here. -
TN is a "shall certify" state, right? My understanding is you don't ask the CLEO's permission, you simply require acknowledgement via signature.

I need honest opinion related to HCP Class
peejman replied to MrsMonkeyMan2500's topic in Women's Perspectives
That's how it went for me as well, though I used my passport instead of my birth certificate. -
When to an in-laws family farm over the weekend and took a few shots. Wish I'd taken a little more time with a couple of these shots, but I was just wandering around taking snap shots.

It's consistent with both guns for multiple shots. Looks like the right bullet is ahead of the left every time, unless they're showing the same shots multiple times.
