Looks like a European Hornet.  http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/European_hornet   Big, mean, and scary... but they eat other wasps. 

    Depends on how hard the steel is now.  It may not be that hard and could still be fairly easily cut/filed/formed into the desired shape.  Otherwise, the heat treat shop you currently use for hardening could easily do the anneal, or most any local machine shop should be able to do it at well. 

I'd love to see him get caught too. If you're certain he's doing it, report him to TWRA or US Fish and Wildlife.

    Not the rats at my house  (they were big'uns too... bodies 6-8" long).  I set the trap after I got home from work and got the first one in less than 30 minutes.  I waited until after dinner to re-bait the trap, put it in exactly the same place (didn't even clean up the blood from the first one), and the 2nd one was dead when I got up the next morning.    Body disposal consisted of tossing them behind my stack of firewood.  Both bodies were gone within 24hrs.  So I eliminated some pests and some other critter got a free meal.  Win win. 

Please don't use rat poison unless there's no other options.  Rats eat the poison and die.  Other very beneficial critters eat the dead rats and die or get very sick.  I had rats take up residence under my screened porch.  Plain old rat traps made quick work of them, and the bodies are easily located and disposed of. 

    If you're talking about that diagonal line roughly in the middle... yes, that's a machining mark and it won't hurt a thing.  It could be polished out with a file or some sandpaper.  But if they're going to replace it, that's even better.

    Yep.  Just about any of the reputable P&S cameras will do everything you want them to do.  DSLR's are fun, but P&S's are way easier for just capturing memories.

Make sure the "frankenbolt" is tight.  It's the bolt that holds the extractor.  If it's loose, put a drop of blue loctite on it and snug it up.  That bolt being slightly loose can cause extraction problems.  You can also look at the rim on the spent brass.  If there are heavy scratches or gouge marks, that probably means the extractor is slipping off the rim as it's removing the brass from the chamber, hence the stovepipe.    Keltec sells most any part for their guns online, and they're cheap... the "extractor kit" is $6. http://www.keltecweapons.com/pf-9/pf-9-parts/   But either way, they'll fix it. 

With this much debate, clearly you need to buy something new and specifically suited to the task at hand. That's what I'd tell my wife anyway... ;)

That's sad and not what I was expecting to hear.  Classic psycho/sociopath.  Good thing the system did its job in rehabbing the poor, misguided youth.  :shake:   

I'd pick the shortest one for easiest handling in the brush.  Sounds like that's the .45-70... which I'd also recommend just because it's a .45-70.  :)   I presume damage to the meat is of little consequence.  If you want to save the meat and are confident in shot placement, the .223 would probably work fine too. 

Easy way to start a brush fire and/or burn your house or your neighbor's down.  Easy way to cause that chiminea to crack and explode.    That said, a friend does that with a steel drum when burning brush.  He cut holes in the bottom and stick the blower nozzle right up to it.  At dusk, the whole barrel glows orange/red with flames 10 ft high.  Makes quick work of wet brush. 

Yep, it's nice to have good neighbors.  Thankfully, after 7 years the mean old bastard next door finally moved away back in the fall and a super nice couple moved in.  Other than beginning to feel like a retirement community, we're in good shape now. 

I've tried Glenlivet, Glenmorangie, Glenfiddich, The Macallan, and most recently Tamdu.  The Macallan was my favorite, but they sure think a lot of it.  I've only had a couple glasses of it, never bought a bottle.  I'm not enough of a connoisseur to justify the price for anything other than very special occasions.  The others were quite good, best I recall.  I've tried JW black and gave the bottle away after a couple glasses. 

I'm interested to hear the rest of this story.  I'm not terribly familiar with that area, but based on the map it doesn't look to be a particularly unpleasant part of town.
