  1. Could've been worse....   True story that happened to a friend...   My friend and another guy were sitting on a fence chatting next to a pasture with some cows.  One of the cows was only a foot or so away, facing the fence and quietly munching on grass.  Apparently she was in heat, as the bull came from across the field and proceeded to mount her with them sitting right there.  They both turned around and did the "well there's something you don't see every day..." sort of reaction.  A moment later and right at the moment of truth, the bull got a little over-enthusiastic and slipped out.  My friend's reactions were a touch faster than the other guy's.  He ducked out the way and only got splattered on his ear and shoulder while the other guy took a full facial.  He said the stench was beyond horrible and he proceeded to projectile vomit while laughing hysterically for the next few minutes.  The other guy had a similar reaction but found it less amusing.  They both burned their clothes and my friend said it was several days before he stopped smelling it.
  2. Triple tap. Nice. Kidding, great shots (all 3 times). :)
  3. Atta boy! You should do the same thing for us next time we get together for a shoot. :D

    rust!!!

I got to shoot for the first time in months on Saturday. I wasn't completely horrible, but I've certainly shot better in my life. None of the guns were mine, but neither was the ammo. :)
  5. Time to put mosquito dunks in your barrels!
  6. One block over on McCallie. None of it was really nice after dark.
  7. DVR'ing something on that channel overnight?
  8. Look up your local observatory or planetarium. Those folks will get you started.
  9. Agreed. Make fixing it a fun project. Paint flames on it or something.
  10. I'll send a couple of my turkey hunting friends over. Wherever they go to hunt, the turkey's go somewhere else. :D Try stringing up a couple layers of twine around the perimeter. Tie some strips of something shiny/flashy that will blow in the breeze every so often around it.
  11. Another note about the stove...   Mine wouldn't run worth a darn on the low grade 70% alcohol (30% water), so don't get the cheap stuff.  90% alcohol worked fine but turns the pots black.  HEET was the best.
  12. You're more thoughtful than I am.  Mom's birthday is Sunday.  She's repeatedly told me she doesn't want any more "stuff" and rarely has other suggestions.  This year I got her a gift card to the movies.  Maybe that will prompt Dad to take her on a dinner date.  Or maybe she can go with one of her friends.
  13.     I went to UT Chattanooga for a couple years.  There were a few areas near campus where one simply paused briefly at traffic lights during the wee hours.   A friend of mine was shot and nearly bled to death during an armed robbery about a block from my on-campus apartment.
  14. ... more content with what I have.
  15. It's important to know the laws where-ever you are.  I've heard/read some folks regularly say... "I'm too old to fight, I'll just shoot ..."  That's not necessarily the best choice.  https://tacticalprofessor.wordpress.com/2015/04/23/decision-making-in-the-kimball-shooting/   Granted, Maine law includes a duty to retreat where TN law doesn't but still, it's a good illustration of how things can go sideways.
  16.         When I took it you were not allowed multiple loaded mags on the firing line.  Only when instructed to do so, load one magazine with designated number of rounds for that string, then fire until empty.  Repeat.
  17.     Get one of those big arse LED light bars and wire it in to your reverse lights with a relay.
  18. A headboard with a door... easy enough.  Looks like it would be somewhat awkward to access when in a hurry.
  19.     I don't disagree with any of this, other than the fact that common sense is as common as superpowers.  Would it be exceedingly stupid to arrest and charge someone whose only intent was to help?  Yes.   Does the letter of the law make it possible?  Yes.   I'm only speaking from the experiences of people I personally know.
  20.     Thankfully no.  I prefer to learn from other's mistakes.    ;)
  21. You might try TOTM's instead of MRE's. I got a couple boxes from a local Guardsman.    Beer can stove... http://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/73015-cool-to-know-beer-can-stove/   Best fuel I've found is HEET brand gas treatment in the yellow bottle (methanol).  Cleaner flame with minimal soot compared to alcohol.
  22.     As I mentioned previously, it varies widely.   You'll get the person on the phone's opinion, which may or may not differ significantly from the responding officer.  I doubt "but the guy who answered the phone said..." will be a valid argument.  To the letter of the law, that's hunting from the road at the minimum.  Hunting out of season, without a license, and discharge within city limits could also be added.  You could get anything from the full monty to a simple "thank you".
  23. Keep in mind that window tint laws apply to where you are, not where the car is registered.  TN doesn't seem to care, but if you piss a VA state trooper off, you will get a ticket for windows darker than 35%.
  24.     I tell my wife that regularly.  Floor it.  I don't care who or what is around, just floor it.  Bash your way between cars, over curbs, whatever... just get out of there.  I'll gladly sort the damage out with the insurance company later.           Because 99.99% of the people who saw that won't seek any sort of training.  If they try it and do it wrong, they might end up dead.
  25. Interesting that they'd advocate techniques to disarm someone.  Seems like untrained folks would see that, do it wrong, and end up hurt or dead.  I agree that fighting back is key, but I'm surprised they immediately go into stuff that's fairly advanced and takes lots of practice.
