  1. My Yugo had a horrible trigger. It had so much creep, I called it a 2 breath trigger. Pull it half way, breathe, pull it the rest of the way. It was stiff, gritty, ... just bad. After Kivarri modified it, it's a wonderful 2-stage trigger. Stage one is perfectly smooth and nearly effortless. Stage 2 is maybe 5lb (appropriate for a battle rifle), short stroke and a clean break. It's very similar to my K31 now. Tremendous improvement, worth every penny. The trigger alone cut my group sizes in half.
  2. Yep. He was one of my favorites.
  3. 10 minutes with a Swiss file followed up with a black sharpie.
  4. Mine takes considerable force to release.  Getting it back in is more difficult than getting it out.  The youtube videos are of rifles that have been disassembled dozens of times.    While it's out, send it to this guy... http://www.kivaari.com/SKS%20Target%20Match.htm You won't believe the difference.
  5.   But they were drones.  Really small ones.  About 40 of them.  Flying in formation.  Launched from a special launching platform.      ;)           There's an important distinction between a "drone" and a hobby R/C aircraft.  A "drone" has the capability for autonomous flight.  If it loses signal, it's preprogrammed to return to a specific location or follow a specific flight path, or it can be programmed to follow a flight path via GPS waypoints or simple time/distance.  That's a drone.   Not all quadrotors will do that.      Either way, I'm sure this toy wasn't registered with the FAA.  I doubt they'll care.
  6. I would say that Bud's doesn't have a great deal more stuff than any other medium/large gun shop.  It just has about 3x the square footage so everything is spread out and more accessible.
  7. I went there a couple weekends ago.  Buds was nice.  Really big... nice to not have everything crammed into a small space.  Was very surprised at the small amount of ammo for sale and the total lack of reloading supplies.    I hadn't been in the knifeworks in years... I was astounded by the amount of stuff in that place.  Spent well over an hour wandering around looking at stuff.  They had better-than-online prices on some ammo, so I increased my supply modestly.  I also got a BB gun for my boys.   Also adjacent is the Coleman store, which also had some really good deals.  I got a cooler, big tent, and some other odds/ends all for less than half price.      Traffic is terrible everywhere around there any day of the week this time of year.  It might be ok from 2am-4am, but I wouldn't know.
  8. This just occurred to me....   This is the classic case of "he who calls first, wins."   The Dad should have called 911 and reported it when his daughter first told him.  He could have even told the operator, "If this thing comes back before you get here, I'm gonna blow it out of the sky." and shot it down anyway.   But since he didn't call and the drone owner did, he's the one in jail instead of the peeping tom drone operator.    So the lesson is... call it in.
  9.     Dad went on several mission trips to Haiti a number of years ago.  One of the things he did there was act as a surgeon's assistant doing cataract surgery.  Cataracts are a big thing in the 3rd world.  The surgeon happened to be a neurosurgeon, but he learned how to do cataracts for this purpose.  They literally did hundreds of people in a couple days in a classroom at the local school/church.  People walked miles and lined up down the dirt road waiting in line for hours.  Dad said they got it down to less than 5 minutes per eye.
  10. If you replaced the circuit board and are certain you got the correct board and installed it correctly.... the only other thing that comes to mind is the t-stat.  I'd at least remove it and check it out for damage.    If you replace the t-stat, check out the programmable ones.  They cost a bit more, but are nice and can save you a few bucks in energy costs.
  11. There's been several in my back yard the last few weeks, my dog has gotten too old to chase them off.  Though I think one met its demise...   I ran over a chunk of rabbit while mowing last week.  Eeeeew.
  12. I'll be curious to see how this one shakes out in court.  I'd guess the charges are more related to shooting in proximity to other houses and the verbal threats than anything else.  I suppose the proper thing to do would be to call the cops.  Though shooting it down sure sounds like more fun.
  13.     Yes... the places I rode and the things I did on a bicycle wearing shorts, a t-shirt, and sneakers.  I'd get arrested if my kids did that now.      Back seat car windows that don't go all the way down are a byproduct of side impact bars and car design of the time.  Cars got smaller so the rear axle moved closer to the rear doors.  That required the big cut-outs in the lower half of the rear doors to accommodate the wheel well body structure.  There wasn't enough room in the small rear doors for the window mechanism to allow the window to go all the way down with that big steel side impact bar running the full width of the door, and with the big cut-outs in the rear doors to clear the rear wheels.  The door would need to be much thicker to make room for the window, which would have reduced already tight rear seat space.  It was a physical design limitation that the marketing folks spun as a "feature".   Marketing 101.
  14. One of Dad's friends is a UF graduate in engineering. After his first year, he decided to take a couple general Ed classes during the summer to lighten the load and be able to concentrate on his engineering classes during the regular semesters. He said the girls would come to class straight off the beach, bikini's on under their shirts and smelling of coco butter. He said it was a good thing the classes were really easy, because he had no idea what the professors said during class. And he took classes every summer after that, whether he needed them or not. :D
  15. This just spontaneously happened? Running normally one day, then blower motor and heat coils acting screwy? If that's the case, makes me think something internal melted and caused the crossed connections.
  16. Cool idea. Guess we'll hear what the ATF thinks about it soon.
  17. Mom had cataracts removed from both eyes and had corrective lenses installed (she was very near sighted, as am I).  No issues.  She said she loves waking up the morning and being able to see the ceiling.
  18. Welcome!
  19. I've worn a Crossbreed Supertuck for a number of years.  I wear it at about 4:00.
  20. Are folks ever going to figure out that minimum wage was never intended to be a career? It was intended for high school kids to make gas/beer/date money. Struggling to get by on minimum wage is supposed to motivate people to better themselves. I guess it's easier to whine to the government.
  21. There's plenty of "rural" areas. Blount county is quite large. I'd also look at Monroe, Loudon, Anderson, Campbell, ... Basically any county without a major city. If you really want to be in the sticks, you're looking at 20 miles from any significant civilization.
  22. Nice! We always called them may flies.... Willow/May fly Dragon fly Dragon flies come in every color of the rainbow, have huge eyes, and they have 2 pairs of wings.
  23. Nice.  Pick up a spare mag.  Try some white or glow-in-the-dark paint on the sights (such as they are), it helps.
  24. Will they remain in TN?  If so, then what he said.  If not, read up on the laws where they're going.
