  1. You sir, are a genius. :D I like the rain barrel idea, but I've already got one. I'd have to find a fairly inconspicuous place for it as I'm quite sure my wife will say it's ugly.
  2.   Seriously, why not?  The smell of Hoppes #9 is an aphrodisiac, the ladies love it.  ;)   Get some newspaper, a bucket, and a couple shop towels.  Take the stock off and put the muzzle into the bucket to collect the crud that runs down.  It's really not that messy.
  3. The kitchen table.
  4. I have acquired one of the big 50gal rolling trash cans. My previous trash service never bothered to come get it after I cancelled the service and made several inquires, so I'm claiming it. Looks generally like this, except it's green. Yes, it was used for trash for several years and is kinda nasty inside. While I'm not above cleaning it, food storage isn't an option. It's just sitting there taking up space at the moment and I'd like to put it to some sort of use, so bring on the suggestions....
  5.     Based on this, I agree with Mac... most likely 8mm mauser.  30 seconds with a caliper can verify that.
  6. Do they assess tax based on sale price or market value (like they do used cars now)?
  7.     http://www.vsp.state.va.us/Safety.shtm#FAQSafety         The key word is "operates".  It specifically does not say vehicles registered in VA, it says vehicles operated in VA.   Would that hold up in court?  Dunno.  The friend I was in the car with paid the fine, which is all they're really after anyway.  Don't screw with VAHP, you'll have a bad day.
  8.     Not exactly.  Yes, you can be ticketed if your vehicle violates the state's code where you are.  It's no different than following their laws while carrying a gun in another state.  Generally, tourists get a free pass but you are breaking the law there.    I know for a fact that you can be ticketed for window tint darker than 35% when driving a FL registered car (where 20% is legal) in VA.  Speeding and being an asshole to the cop about it doesn't help.  ;)   So yes, if you ever think you might pull your trailer out of state, get a tag for it.  It's relatively cheap and worth it to avoid the potential hassle.  If you have a home built trailer or one with no title you can still get a plate for it, you just have to pay an extra fee and get it inspected by TNHP.  Be very thoughtful about weight capacity (understand what gross weight means) when filling out the application.    https://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/revenue/attachments/trailerinspectionrequirements.pdf http://www.tn.gov/assets/entities/revenue/attachments/sf1166fillin.pdf
  9. There's crazy people everywhere.
  10.     I shoot the corrosive milsurp stuff in mine, just because it was cheap and I have it. When/if I run out of that, I presume I'll switch to the PPU, Wolf, etc. type of stuff.  I've also got 1 box of really old Hornady (?) hunting ammo for it.
  11. Nah, there's nothing wrong with the mental health system in our country....    :shake:
  12. You're using reason and logic again.... Those do not apply to legal matters, especially when the government is involved.
  13. Rust.... Lightly oil them and store them in a cool, dry place. If you have them in a safe, use a desiccant in one form or another to keep the humidity down.
  14. Forgot about that one. Good movie.
  15. Yep. Rear mains are generally a major PITA to replace so I'd put it off as long as possible.
  16. Mostly, yes. It's right next to Pakistan, which is basically their back yard. Looking at the map, I suppose it's roughly the same distance to Europe as India, and the weather is better in Europe.
  17. I try hard to feel the same way. I've known more than a few Muslims, all of whom I thought to be good people. However, the conspicuous silence from the "good" Muslim groups is telling. When the Westboro Baptist folks started their antics, many other Christian groups were quick to say "we disagree, they don't speak for us." While I haven't been looking, I also haven't seen or heard any other Muslim group speak out strongly against ISIS, Taliban, etc. That's curious. Perhaps they're afraid of making themselves the next target? I also find it curious that ISIS hasn't moved into India. After all, aren't Hindus infidels just like Christians? And India is right next door.
  18. My assumption was that he's lived his life as a blind man up until the journey began and continued with his habits. A blind person gifted with sight wouldn't necessarily know how to read. But like I said, been several years since I saw it.

  20. Not that unusual, but a sign of a worn out oil pump. Not too hard to replace, if I recall.
  21.     That was my guess too.  What I took was that he was blind, but was gifted sight for the purpose of his journey.  When the journey was complete, the gift was rescinded.  It's been a while since I've seen the movie, but I seem to recall the final scene of him laying there reciting the Bible for the scribe while his eyes slowly clouded back over.
  22. Book of Eli, The Matrix, Red Dawn, Mad Max (the original, haven't seen new one), Reign of Fire, Empire of the Sun (with a very young Christian Bale).    The Road looks interesting, I'll have to add that to the Netflix list.         Forgive my ignorance, but what are you referring to here?
  23. Yep, engine oil doesn't expand that much when warmed up.    Stick your finger in the tail pipe.  :stunned:     If there's oily residue, it has a problem.
  24. I was at work.  I heard someone say a plane crashed into the building and I figured it was something like a little Cessna.  Then someone said no, it was an airliner, which I thought was nonsense until the 2nd one hit.  The company's internet connection was heavily filtered and basically shut down due to all the traffic. We had one separate, unfiltered connection for visiting vendors and there were about 20 of us huddled around this guy's laptop watching coverage on CNN until that finally quit too.    My wife was home and her Grandparents, who happened to be out riding around, stopped by, oblivious to what was happening.  They wondered why there was no traffic on the roads.  They stayed the rest of the day.
  25. I paid just under $400 to move a thinly furnished 2 bedroom apartment across town 8 years ago, and I think I got quite a deal.  The rest of our stuff from our 3 bedroom house had been in storage for months during the transition.    Get a POD or rent a storage unit.  Start moving all the little stuff you can live without for 2 months into storage.  You'll be functionally camping in your house for the last week or so before the official move, but it'll be worth it.  Then the movers only have to mess with the bulky/heavy stuff that you can't handle on your own.    Board the critters for a couple days or even a week.  It'll be worth it to not have them under foot during the chaos.   I don't know how big your aquarium is, but I'd try to find a friend to board the fish with for a couple weeks.  Yes, that means moving the whole aquarium twice (which is a pain, I have one too), but again, it's one less thing to mess with through the transition.
