  1. I can see several side to the issues as well.   Some hunters want that monster trophy, some just want meat in the freezer, some want to eradicate them from an area, ....   Obviously those can be conflicting goals, even more so on adjacent properties, so I can see the difficulty (impossibility) of keeping everyone happy.    One friend hunts mostly public land and wants to fill his freezer.  He shoots anything he can.  He figures if he doesn't take it, someone else will.  He took a spike and a tiny doe (we called it an embryo) this year.    Another friend hunts mostly private land.  He like the meat but would rather take one big one than 3 small ones, so he tends to let smaller deer walk.  His neighbor, on the other hand, kills anything that walks past.  So he gets kinda peeved when he lets a modest deer walk only to hear a shot an hour later.   My parents have a nuisance permit and just want them gone so their flowers/garden has a chance to survive.
  2.     If the burglar, when confronted while still in the house, were to affirm that his only intention is to steal stuff, and he presents no other viable or potential threat to life or limb.... then yes, I'd say he wasn't an imminent threat.    And yes, karma's a bitch, stupid hurts, and so on...  but that's a pretty sucky way to go.
  3. I've tried that push/pull idea and my accuracy went completely out the window.  I found better results with the "point the thumbs"  technique which keeps the wrists flat and in-line with the forearm.    http://www.luckygunner.com/lounge/how-to-shoot-small-pistols-better/
  4. 75% of the people wouldn't notice if you were on fire. 75% of those who notice won't do anything about it. Printing is only an issue in states that require concealment. I was at a popular area of the Smoky Mtns park a while back. There was a guy walking around wearing a not very loose fitting smith & wesson t-shirt. It was covering, but certainly not concealing, the pistol on his hip. I was able to observe for nearly an hour... no one appeared to notice.
  5. If she's having trouble limp wristing an LC9s, you need to get her a racquet ball to squeeze and strengthen her grip. An LCP will be worse in that regard, if anything. Though $200 is a darn friendly price.
  6. I'm told the reason TWRA reduced the limit on bucks to 1 in some areas was to try to let them grow bigger so there will be more "trophy" size animals in the future.  Places known for huge bucks like Ohio and Minnesota have only allowed 1 to be taken for a long time.  So the smaller bucks get to walk in the hope that a behemoth will appear.  That spike who gets a pass 2 or 3 times becomes the behemoth and TWRA starts selling more out-of-state hunting licenses.
  7. Have one of the guys here make you one.
  8. Other than just appearance, the only way I know to judge age is the size of the base of the antlers.
  9. Not enough room under the seat of my SUV either.
  10. Welcome!
  11.     I work with a guy that desperately needs to figure this out. Complain about the small deer, but shoot them anyway?  How are they supposed to get bigger if you kill them?  :ugh:
  12. Friend of mine just got a 4" version.  Darn sweet pistol.  I've always thought the ergonomics in the XD  series was great.
  13. I agree on the timing, but I also think you'll know when it's the right time.  As for breeds... I'd think most any sort of working dog (or mixture thereof) would do fine.... boxer, doberman, cattle dog, plott, ...
  14. Congrats!  You have a beautiful daughter.  Parenthood changes everything.
  15. :usa:
  16. As they said, as long as its in the budget.  Otherwise...   "That?  Nah... I got that a couple years ago, why?"  ;)
  17. Options are always good. Perhaps your vehicle is disabled or hemmed in by traffic when things go sideways. To me, if it's not readily accessible from the driver's seat, it's not accessible.
  18. Welcome! And yes, let her pick her own.
  19. I'd be really surprised if you saw a wolf. Could have been one of those alleged wolf/dog hybrids that are fairly popular with the hill folk.
  20.     I had exactly the same thought when I saw this on the news this morning.  Shame to see such a talent go so early.
  21. If a couple BG's burst into a room where you're sitting around a table and start banging away with rifles.... honestly, you're pretty much f__ked.  It's up to God or fate or whatever you believe in to get you out of that one.    Awareness is about the only take-away I can come up with.  As I understand it, these folks were at a "holiday" (read Christmas) party and the Muslim guy in the office left pissed off (shock).  I get the impression no one in there would have ever dreamed he'd come back with a friend to kill them all.  Be aware where-ever you are.  Always know where the exits are.  Always know what might work as cover (which is pretty much nothing in a typical office building).   Maybe improving your draw/fire time is another take-away.  Seconds count.  Fractions of seconds count.
  22.     Given the prosecution filed the appeal, I'd say that's exactly the outcome they wanted.     I don't necessarily disagree with the statement above... he shot through a door and killed someone.  I'd say that would get you in front of a judge here too.  Know your target and what's beyond....
  23. Worn belt or bad pulley bearing.  When you take the belt off, check every pulley for movement.  There should be zero side movement and should spin very smoothly.
  24. Whatever you've been doing, it's better than finding out your roof is leaking.....   :-\
  25. Indeed. We recently made the switch to a (mostly) electronic system. It's been... interesting. Do you make composite parts?
