  1. A former coworker's daughter had a similar sized tumor removed from her abdomen a number of years ago.  We also couldn't believe the size of it as she was a skinny 105 lb teenager.  There were some complications, but she's still doing fine to the best of my knowledge.  Prayer sent for good test results and a speedy recovery.
  2. Wolves get really big, I've seen several of them up close.  The 120lb weight sounds about right.  Their bone structure is much larger than a typical dog... a wolf's skull and paws are at least 50% bigger than a typical large dog.  A wolf's fur is also very thick which makes them look bigger than their weight might imply.
  3.     Then I must just have bad luck.  I've planted several in the fall and dug up dead trees in the spring with no root growth whatsoever.  Their spring replacements did fine.
  4. I'll also go with the cherry, redbud, or dogwood ideas.  None of those grow really fast so if you're wanting a decent sized tree in a few years, best to buy a bigger one.  Fruit trees are high maintenance and the yellow jackets and wasps will drive you crazy.  We've had a few but they never lived more than about 5 years.     I'd also recommend waiting until spring to plant it.  Winters have been so variable lately that I wouldn't want to go through the trouble of planting a tree and then have to dig it up again and go through the hassle of warranty replacement when it's dead in the spring.
  5. Thanks to all who serve.
  6. Hope you find the services you need. Sucks to be in that situation. If you've got anything that might be infected, please get it addressed sooner rather than later. A friend's mom nearly died because of an abscessed tooth. The bad tooth led to a blood infection which ruined a heart valve. Think dental implants are expensive? Try open heart surgery.
  7. Re: the phone call thing.... My wife calls me within 5 minutes of me entering a gun shop, without fail. Every frickin time. Witchcraft if you asked me. Nice new toys.
  8.     Welcome!   I too would love to find a nearby outdoor place I could shoot rifles.  Unfortunately, unless you've got your own or access to someone's private property, you're stuck with using a range.   There's the Norris range, ORSA, John Sevier range, plus a hand full of indoor pistol ranges around town.
  9. You need a couple layers under a barrier that the wind won't penetrate.  I'd try pvc rain gear, not the fancy gortex stuff.  "Breathable" can also be interpreted as "wind blows right through it".
  10.     Oh yeah... that righty tighty thing gets me sometime too.  :)
  11. Is it a bead sight or just a simple blade/post? If the latter, you can just file the existing sight down.
  12. Congrats!  Not only does having a child change everything, it never stops changing.
  13. Good news. A 10% raise.... That's the stuff dreams are made of.
  14. The 20rd mag is aftermarket. SKS's only came with the 10rd fixed mag. I don't know a smith in that area. There's a few on here but I think they're closer to Nashville. Replacing that spring doesn't look real difficult, I feel sure any competent smith could do it. It might be as simple as bending the latch or tab a little so it has a little more engagement.
  15. Don't really need a cast iron stove, just an outhouse sized building over a fire pit.
  16. Wow. Given the number of them I see why they drive them like that. Not exactly "hunting" IMO, but fantastic shooting nonetheless. He should team up with this guy... https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=BEG-ly9tQGk
  17.     Standard 10 rd mag or AK mags?   This appears to show how to replace the spring: http://preparetosurviveincalifornia.blogspot.com/2011/08/installing-larger-magazine-release-on.html   And this appears to be the spring: http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.aspx?item=SP19&name=SKS+Latch+Spring+%26+Sear+Spring&groupid=72       Re: trigger group   Be aware that removing the trigger group can be kind of a PITA.  The guys on youtube make it look really easy because not only have they done it 100 times, they've done it to that particular rifle 100 times.   Putting it back in can be even more of a PITA, especially when you forget how it goes in the time for the trigger to be reworked.  I used a variety of 4 letter words when reinstalling mine.  The improvement in the trigger was absolutely worth it.
  18.     http://www.kivaari.com/sks%20target%20match.htm   He did mine.  The difference is astounding.
  19.     You can turn amber alerts off on your phone.  Look for something to the effect of "government or emergency alerts" in your settings.  That may impact weather alerts as well.
  20. Welcome!
  21. No argument. Charge whatever the market will bear. Last night I learned that my defiant works quite well as a mower headlight. Tough to get finished mowing when it gets dark 45 mins after I get home. The kids thought it was great fun as well.
  22. I hear lots of talk about issues with reholstering. How often to people do that? Do they just blindly jam the thing in the holster? The gun goes in the holster, very carefully, in the morning. It slides in under less than its own weight until it hits the retention. After checking the trigger/safety (again), it gets pushed the rest of the way. I fail to see how a reholstering discharge is such a significant problem.
  23. It's a school, I'd guess knives were already verboten.
  24. I now see that most sites say that the stuff in tins is corrosive. I was thinking of the boxes that say non-corrosive. I'd assume its the same stuff, but maybe not. The safest assumption is that it is corrosive and should be treated accordingly.
  25.   That's exactly what it is.  It's not the cheap corrosive surplus from many decades ago. It comes on stripper clips and is non-corrosive, so that helps justify the cost.  The bullets are only 150 gr so I'm guessing it's down-loaded practice ammo, which isn't necessarily a bag thing as the rifle is rather a cannon with the 200 gr loads.
