  1. How old are your kids? If they're young, why not get them their first rifle or pistol (or both). I think most would agree that while something nice/expensive is always good, sentimental value is priceless.
  2. double tap.
  3. Cool idea. The plates you've ordered are pretty heavy. You might could design in a spring assist or counter-weight that could be connected so it functions properly with smaller calibers.
  4. I got conned into visiting the 4th circle of hell a couple years ago. I believe the doors say something to the effect of "no weapons". Not a legal posting as I recall, but the intent is clear.
  5. I'd cook it low at 250 or less until the internal temp is 150--ish. Then I'd wrap it in foil and a couple old blankets or towels and put it in a cooler for several hours so it cools very slowly. Be sure to let the leg thaw all the way up to room temp, all the way to the bone, before you start cooking.
  6. Happy turkey day folks!
  7.     I've been asked that too.  My response was... "and then what?"  Then I thought about it for a minute and said, "I bet you're not a very good pool player."  The confused look confirmed that.
  8.     Four Roses, Elijah Craig, Knob Creek, ... even Gentleman Jack.    I've never had Bulleit but also didn't really care for Woodford.  Honestly, the best inexpensive whiskey I've found is Bushmills.
  9. Interesting. That's like the "through the scope" shot.
  10. One of each, two of several, three of some....
  11. Thank you to the frequent flyers for helping to keep me employed. Just keep your eyes open and stay aware. And use lots of hand sanitizer.
  12. Yep, those are just mice/voles.  I have (had) them too.  I caught about a dozen in traps in my garage over a weekend about a month ago.  They haven't been back.    When using poison, please keep in mind that there's other beneficial critters (foxes, hawks, owls, ...)  that eat all these little rodents.  If they eat a poisoned mouse, they die too.  And, you never can tell where they'll die and you may have to endure the smell or go cutting holes in places to find them.
  13. We've got a pair of Dick's house brand 10x binoc's... Field & Stream, I think. They're pretty good for relatively inexpensive optics. I compared them to several higher end models in the store and they were darn close. The $500 ones are darn nice, but not worth it for my purposes.
  14. That's my first suggestion too. If you've got central HVAC, set the fan switch to "on" and leave it on 24/7. It'll keep the air moving in the house and equalize the temp room-to-room. You'll get used to the sound. Electricity usage is minimal. If you don't have central HVAC, running the ceiling fans in reverse can help bring the warm air down. A pedestal fan might make a little difference in the temp of the air you feel, though any sort of moving air will feel cooler than it is.
  15. I like Walter. He says all the stuff I'm thinking but can't say out loud.
  16. You should see him live..... whole 'nother level of funny but wrong.
  17. Glad it ended quietly.
  18. Good to know. I need to put an old pair in my bag.
  19. My wife shoots my P3AT just fine. She doesn't enjoy shooting it, but neither do I. I shoot it enough to be proficient, and that's all. Her Shield 9mm is way nicer to shoot. The .380 is a tool for a specific purpose, and it does that quite well. I'd say it's about the same recoil as a .38 snubby with less muzzle blast.
  20. I like to support the local brick and mortal places, but it's frequently not worth the aggravation this time of year. Thankfully most of our Christmas shopping is already done.
  21. Major suckage. Hope he makes it home safe!
  22. I think it's just a bunch of lazy students using any available excuse not to go to class.  They want to be able to tell people about how they "rebelled against the establishment" when they were in college.  Good for you, now shut up and fix that hamburger I ordered...
  23.     Easy... you call the police, let them do their job, and watch the story on the news the next day.
  24. Roughly 8% of the people in TN have a permit.  One could estimate that less than half of those actually carry regularly.  One could further estimate that a significant percentage of those who carry regularly would be running the other way as fast as possible, if that option is available.  So in a crowd of 100 people, there might be 1 other person who would engage.  The odds of getting shot by another "good Samaritan" are pretty low.
