  1. Where's the guy who worked for CHP all those years? I seem to recall him mentioning that the switch from the double action 92F to the striker fired Smith caused them all kinds of issues due to guys being used to the much longer trigger pull in the beretta.
  2. When the standard inflation rate is 1.5%, 2% per year is 25% too much. And 4% raises every year? That be the stuff dreams are made of. I'd be surprised if my take home pay has increased 4% total over that 9 yr span. Generally I'm happy if the "raise" is more than the healthcare premium increase.
  3. Supply and demand. Distribution costs.
  4. Fascinating, thanks very much gentlemen.
  5. My wife's granddad (just turned 89 and going strong) has this but he can't remember what it is. The "pitcher" appears to be copper and about 8" tall and 3" in diameter. The "brush" is made from a fairly porous stone, but not so porous as pumice. Anyone recognize this?
  6.     A 20% increase in 9 years isn't a lot?  Has your take home pay increased 20% in that same time period?  Mine sure hasn't.
  7. The $200 trade-in is a joke.  I think I'm gonna unload mine and bang it on the floor a few times while pulling on the trigger and see if the hammer falls.  I know I've dropped it at least once over the years and it didn't go off.
  8. Interesting, we go pretty regularly as well.  Boo at the Zoo was the last time we were there and the sign was still up.  I know the zoo is part of Chilhowee park and there's the whole controversy about whether they can legally post the place with the new guns in parks laws.  Perhaps they've consulted with their lawyers and were advised to comply with the law.  I'd be quite surprised if they voluntarily  removed the posting given the general attitude of the Knoxville administration.
  9.     BMW cars are bimmers, BMW motorcycles are beemers.  ;)     I agree that many people are addicted to car payments.  They wouldn't know what to do with themselves if they didn't have to pay that note every month.  They have no concept of personal debt.  A paid-for car must be worn out, right?   As for big/expensive trucks, most of the time it's as simple as "mine's bigger than yours", or at least that's what I want you to think...       But hey, if I had the cash to drop $75k on a vehicle, I'd probably do it.  Enjoy what you've got.  Some have more than others, such is life in a capitalist society.  A guy I work with just paid cash for an $85k big block Cobra.  Friggin' sweet car and he deserves it.  I'm just happy I got to ride in it.  My $1500 motorcycle is plenty fun too.
  10. In the past the FAA has distinguished between a "drone" (capable of autonomous flight) and a hobby R/C aircraft (must be line-of-sight controlled 100% of the time). The FAA has always claimed that they have the authority to regulate essentially anything that flies, they just chose not to deal with hobby R/C aircraft since they were typically operated in a safe manner.  The 400ft max altitude rule was a good one as most people can't see the thing well enough to effectively fly it higher than that.   But I guess given the explosion of quad-rotors with their camera systems (some even have HUD's) and their frequent interference with manned aircraft, something had to give.  I fully expected to see some regulation on actual drones, but not every hobby R/C aircraft.  That said, I seriously doubt you'll get the SCOTUS to agree that requiring them to be registered is illegal.
  11.     Sadly, I'm not familiar with the $50k-$65k used car market.  The most expensive vehicle I've ever bought cost about what you saved on the Raptor.
  12. Clearly you haven't shopped the used car market lately.
  13. Registration and regulation are 2 different things.  There have been many, many instances of irresponsible drone operators interfering with (intentionally or unintentionally) aircraft carrying people and generally ignoring or being ignorant of the establish guidelines for flight.    That said, I'm surprised the FAA went this far.  In the past, the FAA has distinguished between hobby aircraft and "drones" based on the capability of autonomous flight, and "drones" were always the thing they were interested in.    http://www.faa.gov/news/updates/media/20151213_IFR.pdf   http://www.faa.gov/uas/media/model_aircraft_spec_rule.pdf   http://www.faa.gov/uas/media/Sec_331_336_UAS.pdf
  14.   It's the angry beavers at Century... not gorillas.  ;)     I didn't see anything in that video that had anything to do with cast vs. forged.  And you realized that anything that's forged is also cast first, right?  Forging can improve the mechanical properties, but it won't compensate for a crappy casting.  It's not the panacea that some folks like advertise it as.
  15. I think a handgun should come with 1-2 magazines with the option of buying 2-4 more at a significant discount at the time of purchase.
  16. Cool project. A friend of mine does that sort of work, but he's here.
  17. I'd buy the one that I shoot the most accurately and quickly at self defense distances. Of your list, I'd guess that would be the ruger.
  18. Cool.
  19. Welcome!
  20. Mmmmmm.... turkey leg.
  21.     The Tony Chachere's seasoning are yummy.  Tricks to keeping it from drying out....   1. Don't over cook it.   2. Cook it breast down.   3. Don't over cook it.   4. Use an oven bag.   5. Don't over cook it.
  22. Since we're sharing.... I've never brined a turkey. Step 1 is making darn sure the bird is completely thawed before you start, and you really want the whole bird at nearly room temp before you put it on the smoker. I rub mine down with olive oil and maybe some herbs of some sort, quarter and onion and an apple and stuff inside, and put it on the smoker breast down. If you've never done one before, I'd suggest starting with a small-ish bird at 12-14 lbs. Mine typically smoke for 8-12 hrs, depending on the size of the bird and the ambient temp. I put a mixture of cheap beer, water, and apple juice in the water pan. And since the smoker's going, may as well fill it up.... :yum:
  23. Better than the fried turkeys I've had. They were good, but smoked is better. ;)
  24. Good: seeing a couple practicing like that.  Bad:  she's crossing her feet when moving sideways instead of shuffling.
