This one? Lever guns in .45-70 are cool. Well... pretty much anything chambered in .45-70 is cool. ;)

An odd bird for sure, but quite an artist. Ziggy and the Goblin King were the first things that came to mind when I heard of is passing. RIP.

Purpose of strobe light capability of TLR-1 HL
peejman replied to Jenny1234's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Sit in your bathroom in the dark for a minute or three. Set the light for strobe, point it at the mirror, and light it up. -
Recoil Management, especially for those of us that are aging.

I'm not over 50 yet, but I have the same wearable pad as the OP for the same reason. A couple clips thru the Mosin and a couple through the M48 is more than enough. I love shooting them but the steel butt plates are tough. Makes me think about the guys who slogged through the mud and cold and shot these things all day long. -
Need clarification and info in Tennessee Hunter Protection Act

Kids can't shoot their BB guns or practice with a kiddie bow in the backyard? That's just nuts. I'd have a hard time believing there's any sort of enforcement beyond someone complaining. -

Wow. That ordinance is absurd. I've never seen one so all-encompassing. -
Legos, is there nothing they can't do?

Equipment Review - Portable Buddy by Mr Heater
peejman replied to Omega's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Good price on the big buddy heater, less than I paid for mine several years ago.... http://www.sportsmansguide.com/product/index/mr-heater-buddy-portable-propane-heater-up-to-9000-btus?a=1836542 -
What are you blasting? Perhaps a different media like plastic or walnut shells would work. All media breaks down over time. We change out our glass media cabinets every 10hrs or so, I think.

Have a friend come over to play BG and practice. Preferably without loaded guns.

I'd like to build a small greenhouse. A friend at work has one and loves it. Fresh salsa in February is pretty nice. -
That's awesome. I need to talk a guy at work into doing that.

How's ole Richard Noggin doing these days? Last I saw him was at the TTU baja race a few years ago. Gonna be back there again this spring, btw. -
How thick does the filler material need to be? Fill up the whole inside of that ball? Will it always be the same size? How firm does it need to be? A little give, no give? There's all kinds of types of foam that could be used as filler. I was serious with the Great Stuff suggestion (because it really is great stuff ;) ). She could get various types of foam and glue layers together and then shave it down to the desire shape/size. Could even use different types/densities to control how much and where it gives, if that matters. http://www.mcmaster.com/#standard-foam-sheets/=10lhzd8

What is This? Solar/Compression Furnace Thingy

:hiding: Wait... it's been how many years since I took thermo? :dropjaw: I used the wiki page too... All that calculus is just the "proof" (remember those? ) of the equation used to calculate the thermal efficiency of the cycle. As for that doodad, I'd be shocked if it was more about 10%. -
My kids are little, having them run a couple blocks isn't realistic. The neighbor's driveway puts the physical barrier of a tree line and a house between them and our house.

What is This? Solar/Compression Furnace Thingy
peejman replied to Clod Stomper's topic in General Chat
The energy change through the cycle is proportional to the heat input and absolute temperature. Since the process isn't "perfect", the total actual energy change must be less than or equal to the total ideal energy change. What's not clear about that? ;) -
Our plan is basically pretty simple as well.... If BG is not between us and the kids, I engage the BG, she gets the kids and calls 911. If the BG is between us and the kids, I engage BG as necessary on my way to the kids, she calls 911. If I can get to the kids and get out without engaging, I will. Rally point is neighbor's driveway.

The "Carnot II" might imply that its based around the Carnot cycle, which is a thermodynamic cycle that uses a temperature differences to accomplish work output of some sort. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnot_heat_engine -
I've had shoulder issues since high school wrestling. I've learned that I have to exercise and keep the surrounding muscles toned, because the ligaments and such just don't do a good job holding the joint together anymore. There's specific exercises to target different areas. A friend's wife is a physical therapist and recommended a few things, and they help. It doesn't really slow me down, but I've also learned that there's certain movements I have to be very careful with or avoid altogether. Most all of that learning came the hard way. I've talked with several people who've had similar problems and had surgery to fix it. The standard answer is to put off surgery until you can't stand it any longer. The surgery is very painful, and full recovery generally takes an entire year. The latest surgical techniques may have improved that. Last time I threw my shoulder out, I was throwing a frisbee for my dog. :wall: Thankfully that's been several years ago.

Very situationally dependent. Unfortunately there's no "one size fits all" solution. Depends on how your house is built, where you are relative to "safe" exits, and whether you have single or multiple attackers. I think the first choice would be to seek cover.... bullet-resistant cover. So shutting an interior door isn't cover. If cover isn't immediately available, the next choice is escape. Moving targets are hard to hit. But you don't want them running straight to the attacker's buddies waiting in your driveway, or falling down the stairs in their haste. You've got to look at how your house is laid out, where everyone is likely to be, how an attacker (or attackers) might enter, and determine a plan (or plans) of action based on that.

That's basically what I meant. He mentioned sub-MOA during initial shooting... so that should mean roughly 10" groups at 1000 yds. That tells me that a good shooter (one who could consistently make sub-MOA groups at 100 yds) should find hitting a target 3.5x bigger than his group size relatively easy. 1000 yds is a long way and I don't mean to discount the difficulty, but it doesn't get any easier than a good rifle on flat range with no wind.
-
Pretty impressive, though I'm curious why no group sizes are included. A 9sqft target seems fairly large for a claimed sub-moa rifle.
