Just wet here.  Doesn't look like the temp will drop below freezing until this evening some time.            Been there, lived through that grind.  I decided fairly quickly that if I wasn't going to make enough money that day to repair the  damage my vehicle might incur trying to get there and back, I just stayed home.

Best of my (very little) knowledge, the .50 is not considered to be an anti-personnel weapon.  It's listed for being for disabling equipment.

It's a good thing crazy people don't hurt others with anything other than guns.  :shake:     A few observations....   1. Notification of the person subject to the hold is not required.   2. There is no specified maximum or minimum duration for the hold, no periodic review requirements.      3. There's no time requirement for the hold to be released after the person provides documentation to that effect.  Five days to hear a petition, but no time limit on final judgement.    4. It says "clear and convincing evidence" is required to release the hold, but makes no qualifying statements on what's required to create the hold. 

    You've got too many tags there...  remove the [ URL] and [/ URL] tags from the link, leaving only [ IMG] link to photo [/ IMG]   If you're using the insert photo button in the reply box, don't include any tags.  What you paste in the box should be http ://www.linktoyourphoto.jpg   The forum software adds the appropriate tags so the image will appear.   The photos can show up huge in the reply box and it looks kinda weird to edit text around them.  The forum software automatically re-sizes large images down. 

Driving without a license is violating the law, as is carrying a handgun without a permit. Some see this cop as the Gestspo, hell bent on cutting the Constitution to pieces, one tiny slice at a time. I see a guy trying to do a job frought with conflicting requirements, morons, and hostility. Respect goes both ways. The cop asked a simple question, possibly Illegally, because he felt compelled to for reasons we're not aware of, and got treated like dirt for his trouble. I suppose we can agree to disagree on whether or not he deserved it.

I'm all for a little civil disobedience every now and then, but there's a choice on how to go about it.  Why default to being an adversarial prick?  It's possible to say no, mean no, and not be a jerk.  Clearly this guy doesn't work in sales.  Had he responded politely (or even jokingly.... I'll show you mine if you show me yours...   :dirty:   ), I'll bet the whole encounter would have gone differently.  But instead he decided to go down the "help help, I'm being repressed" avenue and got hassled for his efforts.    And beyond that, what I'm reading says a permit is required to carry a handgun in CT (open or concealed, just like TN), so it's analogous to asking someone driving for their DL. 

You also have to consider the risk.  If you get a bad factory load and it blows your gun up and hurts you, the ammo manufacturer is liable.  If you screw up a reload and the same happens, it's all on you.  Some reloaders like to tout all the money they save.  Blow up 1 gun and all that savings is gone and then some.   Based on that alone, I see little value in reloading common calibers.  If you're a 1000yd shooter or have a caliber that not commercially available, that's different. 

    It's the same thing when you're carrying a gun. 

Probable cause to ask for ID is a long way from cause for arrest.

The trouble is, the only opinion that matters at the time of the incident with regard to legal basis is the officer's. Countless instances would indicate arguing that point on the spot has no value and only strengthens the officers's resolve. Being a dick about it just makes it worse.

Most homeowner's insurance policies cover firearms up to $2500, with $1500 max per individual, and subject to you deductible. My insurance (State Farm) said I should get a separate personal property policy, which would cover guns, jewelry, artwork, musical instruments, etc. Every item covered has to be documented via description, photo, serial number (as applicable) and value. All values had to be substantiated and any single item over $5000 required a written appraisal.

Why go down the false arrest and subsequent legal battle rabbit hole when a modicum of cooperation followed by polite discussion would accomplish the same thing without making gun owners look like a bunch of whiny pricks? Perhaps you've got plenty of time and money to pursue the "hammer of justice" method of education. I'd rather do it with 5 minutes of polite conversation.

I get the idea of exercising your rights. I don't get the idea of being a whiny dick about it, especially to cops. They're like fish on a hook. You dangled the bait, they bit on it, and the harder you reel, the harder they fight back. You're never going to win the "reasonable suspicion" argument with a cop. Be nice. Show them your ID. Then show the open carry law that you've got bookmarked on your phone for just this sort of occasion. Explain politely. Offer to talk to their boss and explain it to the whole department. Be nice.

    Just a thin layer of polyethylene sheet would work for that.  Firm enough for some support between layers but still somewhat bendy.
