  1. Why? So innocent people will die and ISIS can celebrate it as a failing of western society?
  2.     The P-40 was a low and slow plane like the BF-109.  Speed is life in a dogfight and the  P-51 had a good 100 mph advantage as well as 10k ft ceiling advantage.  The 30mm cannon on the German planes was devastating and outgunned the Allied planes, but the speed and altitude advantage of the P-51 was too much to overcome.
  3. I don't mind mowing and like my yard to look nice.  But, I've learned over the years that if your neighbor's yard has weeds, yours will too.  There's simply no way around that, other than paying the chemical people to come spray it regularly.  I've also learned that the weed/feed fertilizer just makes the weeds grow faster.  Mine is green and it grows and that's all I really care about.
  4. 30x30?  No grass.  Make a flowerbed.  Plant low maintenance, shade tolerant perennials such as hosta, ferns, bleeding heart, coleus, spirea, astilbe,  etc.  They'll fill in and choke out the weeds in a few years.  Mulch it in the spring before everything comes out and it's pretty with essentially zero maintenance all summer.
  5. Check out these collections of photos from WWII.  http://www.theatlantic.com/photo/categories/world-war-ii/   The Atlantic has a ton of great photo collections.  http://www.theatlantic.com/photo/categories/
  6. Here's one Muslim charity... https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aga_Khan_Foundation I only know it exists through my work.
  7. AIM Surplus has good stuff from time to time.
  8.     Thanks, I've read that the Makita is a good one.  I've got a Makita circular saw, and it's great.  I'm on the fence as to corded or cordless.  I really wouldn't use it that much and it seems like every time I need to use my drill, the dang battery is dead so I have to wait an hour for it to charge.  At this point, I think dealing with an extension cord would be less annoying than batteries that are always dead when I need them.
  9. I've got one of their 20 gal compressors.  It's ok.  It's fine for airing up tires and such, but even though it's a 20 gal tank, the tube exiting the tank into the regulator is only 1/4" so it doesn't supply enough air to run my air impact.  It runs my air ratchet fine, runs the die grinder intermittently.  The low pressure switch is set much too low, at about 60 psi, so it runs way down before it kicks on to fill back up.  It leaks oil (not oil-less motor).  It blew the head gasket after a few years, but that was fairly easily fixed.  If used a lot in the summer, it'll over-heat.  I wouldn't buy another one.   That said, I'm in the market for an electric impact wrench.  Anyone care to recommend one?
  10. Name a war that wasn't won by simple attrition.
  11. I carry either my .45 on my belt or .380 in my pocket, whichever is suitable for the situation.
  12.     A friend has a little camp cup with lid that the beer can stove fits in perfectly.  Keeps the can from getting crushed and is functional for cooking stuff in.    Neat little survival stoves aside, I've got cans of Sterno stashed all over the place.  They're cheap, convenient, and they work.
  13.     That movie came to my mind as well.  I've got kids and the opening of that movie sickened me in the same way as this story.  And honestly, I didn't watch the video.  Didn't want to.    I know there's sociopaths/psychopaths in every society, but taking away all references to religion of any sort, this is just completely inhumane.  To prey on the completely helpless and then celebrate it?  That's just incomprehensible.  If the "peaceful Muslim" world doesn't vehemently denounce this...
  14. My plan is dryer lint mixed with some magnesium shavings. I'll put a bit of silicone grease on the threads to help keep moisture out. That stove is neat, but kinda complicated. This one is really simple. I've made several and they work great. Use HEET in the yellow bottle as fuel. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=ui8t3pivqtk
  15. Probably built from a kit or a collection of surplus piece parts. I built mine from an Imbel (Brazilian) kit.
  16. Cool.  I have the makings of fire-starter tins using old Crossman pellet tins on my workbench, just haven't finished them off yet.
  17. My wife had (has) some follow-through issues as well.  It took some coaching to get her to hold the trigger to the rear until the sight picture returns.  I think doing that helps keep her grip firm through recoil instead of relaxing immediately after the shot breaks.  I first noticed it in the form of her resetting her grip after every shot.  It takes some discipline to only move the trigger finger and not relax the whole hand during trigger reset.          That'd be 4 times for me as keeping both eyes open has me seeing double.
  18.   An STG 58 is just one of several versions of the FAL.  They all function the same, the differences are essentially just cosmetic with the exception of inch/metric pattern rifles.  I believe the STG 58 is the Austrian version with the built-in bipod and really long flash hider / grenade launcher.
  19. Yep.  When I was in college, there were areas near campus where you simply didn't stop for red lights late at night.  When a light turned red, you slowed down, looked, and kept going.  It was rare to see another car and we never knew what caused the lights to change.  I was never personally accosted but a couple friends had a scare one night.  Thankfully they were able to stomp the gas and get outta there before it got ugly.
  20. Again, video is required.
  21. I think they're awesome. Video is required.
  22. Poor elephant.
  23.     A better solution for the tractor....  http://www.walmart.com/ip/Battery-Tender-Junior-Charger/15779492
  24. Looks like a solution to a problem that doesn't exist.   What happens if you accidentally hit the mag release on the gun and both mags go falling away?   Having the 2nd mag swinging around under there while trying to shoot can't help accuracy.  Seems like it would also go flying around and whack your hands due to recoil or when moving.  '   Looks like a great thing for someone to grab and jerk the gun out of your hand.
