  1. School field trips to go rub up against one? How cool is that?! I sure wish I'd been able to see one fly in person.
  2. If you haven't, you guys should check out Rich Graham's books. http://www.amazon.com/Richard-H.-Graham/e/B001IO9Q8E i was fortunate to attend a talk given by Col. Graham and got autographed books for my Dad. Really neat to hear his stories in person.
  3. I use Milcomm. The syringe make it really easy to put just a little grease exactly where it needs to be without ending up with a BFM. While small, it's probably a lifetime supply unless you're shooting pro type round counts. https://www.amazon.com/Mil-Comm-TW25B-Grease-Reclosable-Syringe/dp/B000UTOVX8
  4. We've mulched with pine straw for several years. I may try bark mulch next year.
  5. Isn't a permit required for a parade on public streets? Isn't jaywalking illegal?
  6. I remember seeing a show years ago where a couple automotive crash test engineers decided it would be fun to do analysis of a variety of professional martial artists. They wired up some dummies and told the fighters to do their worst. The results were staggering.
  7. Dad has a copy of Sled Driver. It's full of great stories, I remember that one.
  8. I saw the first few holes, wish I'd been able to watch the rest. Looked like the two of them were having fun competing with one another.
  9. Indeed. Catch a good sale on meat and buy a bunch. Vacuum seal it in manageable portions and they keep a long time. My parents bought ours for us in the first couple years of marriage. It'll be 15 years Thursday.
  10. I don't care much who wins, I just want it to be interesting. I also hope "idiot Phil" doesn't make an appearance. He's done some of the dumbest things over the years at times like this.
  11. I use the side burner on my grill as the heat source specifically to keep the heat out of the house, and the potential mess should it go horribly wrong, though we've only done water bath canning so far. The only way I know to preserve zucchini is to shred and freeze it. Then it can used for zucchini bread and added to sauces or casseroles as a veggie filler. Seems to work fairly well since it doesn't have much flavor. I've never cared much for yellow squash so we don't grow it. Yes, the "Ball Book" is a must have. We also got a dehydrator a while back but haven't used it much yet. I did one batch of chilie peppers that didn't get as crispy as I wanted. I plan to try the usual fruits but hadn't thought about tomatoes. I'd like to try jerky too, but figured I'd start with easier stuff like fruit.
  12. Me too. I find blacksmithy in general very interesting.
  13. We freeze lots of tomatoes. Blanch and skin them, then put in freezer bags. We've also frozen corn basically the same way. Wife made a batch of strawberry jam from the you-pick strawberry place earlier this year.
  14. $58? The link says $129 now.
  15. We did some canning when I was a kid. I remember it being terribly hot drudgery. Now we recently got a hand-me-down canner and started doing it ourselves. While it was a good bit of work and took most of a day, the results were satisfying.
  16. Hey now.... Those are geeks, not nerds. If you're going to stereotype, at least use the correct one.
  17. Hoppes would work fine, though a vat of it large enough to immerse the whole gun would be pricey. Since it's all stainless, most any solvent should work fine. I'd try hot, soapy water and an old toothbrush and see how far that got me before I started with more aggressive chemicals.
  18. No need to take the whole thing apart unless it's broken. Field strip it, remove the grips, and soak the whole thing in solvent. Blow it clean/dry with compressed air, lube, and reassemble.
  19. Resolved in a year? It'll be a year before its back in court so they can delay it again. The only thing that'll force it is some knucklehead getting charged.
  20. Hard to go wrong. The nearest place is http://www.tacsog.com. My wife took the class there.
  21. Rage, yeah because clearly that'll fix the problems. That's the first thing that comes to mind when I think about how best to address all the angst and turmoil in society. The world really needs a little more rage these days. Rage. Yep, that'll fix it.
  22. A friend has a Stihl with a 36" bar for just such an occasion. If you supply beer, it comes with an operator.
  23. http://m.humanesociety.org/animals/dogs/tips/de-skunking_dog.html Plan to iterate the clean/shampoo cycle at least 3 times.
