  1. USAA has a similar service. I think it's something like $150 with participating dealers. Dad used it when they bought Mom's Subaru and said it worked fine. The price seemed to be about what you could negotiate to anyway, especially on a cash sale, the service just saved the aggravation. As I recall they had to order the car, but it didn't take long to get.
  2. I gotta get my smoker out soon. Makes me hungry just thinking about it.
  3. No kidding. Walk in, say I'll pay you this much for that one, and they stare at you like you've got 3 heads.
  4. When hiking in the woods, be wary of rattlesnakes sunning themselves on south facing slopes. There's plenty of them around here.
  5. That's impressive.
  6. Interesting, great that they were able to rehab the bird. Though the idea of having a Great Horned Owl walk up your chest is pretty frightening, given that they can crush bones with their feet. This is what my wife does... https://www.facebook.com/pages/Upstate-Birds-of-Prey/211684125542201
  7. Welcome!
  8. Yep... that illustrates just how fast it really happens. The cop was also smart to position himself such that any misses weren't going into the traffic. Hard to tell what kind of building that is, but certainly a better backstop than a handful of cars. The driver of the Suburban was smart to get outta dodge too. I'd have been smoking the tires getting outta there.
  9. If the locals won't play ball, fly-n-buy, and enjoy the road trip home. I have zero patience with car dealers. With so many to choose from, there's no reason to cut them any slack. They're kinda like lawyers... 99% of them give the rest a bad name.
  10. There are Bobcats in East TN, I've seen several on various occasions. Looks like a young one. And technically a Bobcat is a Lynx.
  11. We have one of those too.... Strange woodpecker that takes seed from our feeders up to the sill on top of the brick and opens it there. Sounds like jackhammer on the roof.
  12. Never heard of these... interesting stuff.
  13. It's nesting/mating time for some birds. It sees its reflection in the window and is trying to fight the competitor off.... they're not called "bird brain" for no reason. Make the reflection go away and so will the bird. And please don't use poison.
  14. Lowes and Home Depot have heavy nylon tool bags that work pretty well.
  15. That's interesting. I'd assumed pretty much all TVA property was off limits. The rules do say that possession and use of firearms is allowed, but curiously motor vehicle use is not. So if you want to shoot there, you've got to haul your stuff in on foot/bicycle/horseback.
  16. A bad day for sure. We saw him fly a month or so ago. RIP
  17. I work a few miles from the Knoxville airport. It was really cool watching practice the couple days before the show here. https://patrickleanne.smugmug.com/Other/Camera-Awesome-Photos/n-8TB27/i-DZzLngt/A https://patrickleanne.smugmug.com/Other/Camera-Awesome-Photos/n-8TB27/i-jcKQfbG/A
  18. I'm not aware of any public land where you can shoot that's not an established range (Norris, John Sevier, ...). Private property is going to be your only option.
  19. Looks like really good work to me. It's clean and the active corrosion is removed, but not restored.
  20. I can't really recommend a specific rum, but be sure to check prices here before you go. Sometimes it cheaper to just buy it here with the aggravation of going thru customs. We went to Jamaica (Negril) for our honeymoon. Beautiful place and we had a great time. Be prepared to haggle over everything, I found Jamaicans to be the most politely pushy folks I've ever met. Also be prepared to tip everyone. I was out of $1's before I got out of the airport. It got expensive fast.
  21. Just use Pandora. It's free.
  22. We have friends who live just into the hills. They have bears periodically come check out stuff at their house. Once you get past the "neat" factor, they can quickly become a nuisance if they start getting into stuff. My wife showed me hilarious cell phone video of the wife out on their deck at dusk trying to shoo away a bear that was showing interest in their trash cans.
  23. Cut-away view.
  24. And tries to steal all kinds of swag from the Deals Gap store. I know the guy who used to manage it. He said he was dumbfounded by the number of rich doctors, bankers, and lawyers out playing "biker dood" who tried to steal stupid crap.
