Trader's / Seller' remorse . . . . is it real?
peejman replied to ZoidMeister's topic in General Chat
I know this is about guns, but the only remorse I have involves a truck. Dad had a white '72 C-10, stepside, 3 on the tree when I was a kid. It wasn't especially pretty, but we hauled untold amounts of firewood in it. We went to the golf course all the time in it. Every winter we'd all pile in the cab and go dig up a Christmas tree from a farm out in the boonies. He sold it when I was still too young to drive. Whenever I see a C-10 now I'm reminded of that truck. I'd love to find that old truck and fix it up. -
We've had a Food Saver brand vacuum sealer for years. Coming up on 16 years as I think it was a wedding gift. It's been great. Best way to preserve stuff in the freezer. I have learned to double seal both ends of the bags. Sometimes bags don't seal completely and will leak back up a bit. Just use that stuff first. I've also learned to put a napkin or paper towel in with anything juicy. Yes, every bag will get at least an inch shorter every time you use it. I've never found that to be an issue. I've used both Food Saver brand bags and Ziplock brand with success.

I've only sold 1 gun (an AR to a friend) and I don't regret it. He got a nice rifle that he still has and enjoys, I was able to get one I liked better. -
Here's an episode of River Monsters filmed in the cooling pond and river adjacent to Chernobyl. You can see all the horrific monsters he found there...

I assume you mean favorite to shoot. In that case, Nope. My wife's S&W 6904 is my favorite shooter but I most often carry my least favorite P3AT, just because it's so easy.

I also use SmugMug. In addition to relatively easy access, It's a great way to back-up all your photos and videos in the event your computer dies. Its fairly inexpensive, and here's a discount code that'll save both of us a few bucks. https://secure.smugmug.com/signup?Coupon=VlcPcQWTe7dG6

I doubt you need to pay cash to buy or rent. I'd presume you'd set up a local bank account where you end up and can pay for stuff just like anyone else. Having a hunting license has nothing to do with buying firearms. A friend of mine is from England. We call him "the angry Englishman" He's got a resident alien card and has quite the firearm collection. His purchases typically take a couple days to go through, but otherwise no issues.

I'll freely defer to those who do this sort of thing for a living... generally I'd say most of what you hear is fear mongering from the uninformed or those with an opposing agenda. People fear things they don't understand, few people outside of the industry understand radiation. I know enough to be dangerous. We serviced engines from aircraft that overflew Fukushima immediately after the incident. LOTS of hype was made about handling of the potentially radioactive engines. As is alluded to in the Popular Mechanics article, the radiation experts we worked with from Oak Ridge could confirm that's where these engines picked up radiation, but the level was very low. "Below background" was their description. They actually put the engines in their containers up against the outside wall of their office as added shielding from all the other stuff they had that really was hot. Their comment was "they're actually gaining radiation as they sit here, because the other stuff back there is way hotter."

Kind of new to tn and kind of new to the forums

Welcome. Enjoy Cookevegas. -
Less is still less. At the time, it would have been around 100hp more than the vette. Id guess the top speed difference is gearing. The vette never has been geared for top speed. It typically tops out part way through 5th and 6th is just for gas mileage.

Interesting. Turbo or blower?

Cool car, what mods did he make? Mostly I'm curious if he upgraded the differential. In my automotive days, I worked on development of the CTS-V. I got to go for a ride in a prototype "super CTS-V" that had the blown LS from the Z06 the they said they'd boosted up near 600 hp. Problem was, they couldnt get the diff to live very long and the bosses wouldn't buy off on a caddy with more power than the vette, so it never saw the light of day. It was a fun ride though.

Normal, moderate, general pocket knife type usage....? You'll never know the difference. D2 is tougher and will likely hold an edge better, but will be correspondingly more difficult to get really sharp in the first place.

This is a pretty good book about the early soviet nuclear navy. The movie is basically one chapter in the book. https://www.amazon.com/K-19-WIDOWMAKER-Secret-Nuclear-Submarine/dp/079226472X This is a pretty good one too. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/1891620088/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487120350&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_QL65&keywords=blind+mans+bluff&dpPl=1&dpID=51nYicn7iKL&ref=plSrch Fukushima made one major error, which was not putting their generators on the roof.

Being nuclear plant failures is about all they have in common. Chernobyl exploded and threw all its contaminants airborne. Fukushima dumped most of it into the ocean. If you want to know what irradiating the ocean looks like, go look at the Barents Sea north of Murmansk. That's where the Russians dumped all their failed naval nuclear reactor vessels. It's not especially deep there. If you stood a missile sub on end, it might poke 50-100ft out of the water.

A friend has one of these turbo Explorers with a hot rodded computer. It'll run with a V8 Camaro into triple digits. Here's the exhaust leak story... http://www.usatoday.com/story/money/cars/2017/02/13/ford-motor-co-defect/97856978/ We had an old '70's full size van that would pull exhaust in through the rear windows so generally we only opened the one opposite the tail pipe. But if that window was open, it was very likely all the other windows were open too, so it wasn't a big deal.

Aluminum absolutely will crack. The crack might be a little more obvious than a composite bow before it goes bang, but they will crack.

Call the nursing station when you want to talk. Ask a nurse to use the phone/tablet to call you.
-
I don't know a lot about crossbows specifically. In general, I'd be wary of a used bow of any sort, especially purchased from a random person on Craigslist.
-
Interesting indeed. I think I understand what is says, but I'd like to hear a lawyer-ish person translate that into common-folk-ese.

I'm bookface intolerant.

Sweet! We should talk sometime. I'd love to hear the story first hand.
