  1. Blowing grass in the street.... That pisses me off. Neighbors on both sides used to do that. Then when I'd mow, I'd run my mower down the street and blow their clippings back into their yards. A few cycles of that and they've mostly stopped doing it. Dad was kinda anal about mowing as well. We bagged the clippings and hauled them down the back yard into compost piles in the woods behind the house. I don't really have that option so I just let the clippings lay. I want it to look nice, but getting it done is most important. I'm not a retiree with nothing better to do than mow 3x per week. I do it when I can... like this afternoon when the heat index will be over 100 deg. Yay.
  2. When an FFL holder surrenders their license, all their records go to the ATF. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation/2015/10/27/firearms-national-tracing-center-atf/74401060/
  3. A friend had grinder like the first link and it was absurdly fast. It cuts as fast as you'd expect a chainsaw that big to cut. I've also used a grinder like the 2nd link and it's about like running a big tiller. Once you convince yourself to relax and just let it do its thing, it's really not very hard. Either way, the pile of wood chips left behind will be twice the size of the stump. When it's time to clean the deck, I set the brake, chock the wheels, and lift the front of mine with a floor jack. I stick a jack stand under it in case the jack slips. Cooking spray should help, but I'll guess you'd need to reapply it at least every time you mow. Mold release might work too... https://www.amazon.com/Smooth-Universal-Mold-Release-fl/dp/B004BNHLOK The best thing you can do is wax the deck when it's new. Even then, I'd guess you'd need to repaint it every year. Once it gets dinged up underneath, there's not much you can do to "slick up" the surface short of refinishing it.
  4. 1. They have a manufacturer and serial number. 2. They contact said manufacturer and ask which distributor received it. 3. They contact the distributor and find out which retailer received it. 4. They contact the retailer and find out who bought it. Detective work 101. There's nothing new about that process. So they have an incorrect model, incorrect serial number, or duplicate serial number.
  5. As Sam says, easily done in a day with one of the hydraulic grinders.
  6. Why wouldn't you call the police if someone tried to rob you? If you weren't doing something stupid, the soccer mom wouldn't feel the need to call the police.
  7. The answer to your question is above (emphasis by me). Right or wrong, the first person to call is always assumed to be the victim. That can make all the difference.
  8. Welcome!
  9. 25 acres?! Find someone with cattle and make a deal for them to cut the hay.
  10. We lived near Charleston when I was little. A man Dad worked with known only as "big boy" for obvious reasons, hunted hogs with a Bowie knife. He had a .44 on his hip but only used it when he got treed, which was rare. Mom and Dad still talk about the whole hog BBQ's on the beach with the pig buried in the sand. Can't do that anymore.
  11. What they said.... weedeat an acre? Replace the mulching blades with discharge blades, open the chute, and let 'er fly. Wait until later in the afternoon so the grass has had all day to dry out before mowing. What kind of grass do you have? Grass is growing like crazy with as much rain/sun as we've gotten. You're gonna have to mow it at least twice a week if you're trying to mulch it.
  12. Were the rounds even remotely still on target after the side blew out or when the whole thing let go?
  13. I think about that too. My assumption is it's gun in strong hand and child by weak hand trying to keep them behind me while trying to escape. Practice with simple commands like "down", "cover", and "run". I'd presume you're basically gonna be dragging a child to keep them moving and on their feet. https://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/product/shooting-in-defense-of-others-download/ https://www.personaldefensenetwork.com/article/family-defensive-strategies-for-the-armed-individual/
  14. Welcome!
  15. Yes. I've made a concerted effort to work out at least somewhat regularly. I use half my lunch hour and my goal is resistance training 3x per week and light cardio the other 2 days. I meet that goal maybe half the time. I use light weights and generally don't push myself particularly hard due to a history of exertion migraines and tendinitis, but I'm getting stronger and more fit. I've got way less aches and pains, and it's much less severe when I get a cold. Stress is huge. When my stress level gets up to my eyeballs, that's generally when I get sick. The exercise is a good outlet. When it's nice out, my "cardio" is usually a brisk stroll around the industrial park where I work. It helps.
  16. Once you get in the mode of waking up in the middle of the night, it's hard to get out of it. I used to have to get up at 2-4am to let our dog out, no alarm clock required. She'd stir and I'd wake up and let her out. Then I'd go sit on our screened porch waiting for her to come back, which took anywhere from 10 mins to an hour. Most of the time it was hard to go back to sleep. I'd finally drift off about the time my alarm would go off. Now that the dog is gone, I still wake up in the middle of the night fairly regularly. It's frustrating. When I sleep through the night it's generally because I've worked my ass off for several days prior and am completely exhausted. Some exercise after supper seems to help me fall asleep. Talk to your doc and hopefully it'll sort out quickly.
  17. Don't sleep until it's time to sleep where ever you're going. Jet lag for me was always worse coming back. Everything costs more there, so be ready for that.

    America!

Yep, that's pretty cool. Sounds like WWIII started around here tonite. I've never heard/seen so many fireworks going off!
  19. What they said. I've got 3 or 4 of the big 7 gallon containers specifically for water. I dump and refill them annually.
  20. Gallon jugs (milk jugs) of water will leak eventually, so keep that in mind.
  21. Most people wouldn't be able to buy food anyway. No internet = no credit/debit cards. Hardly anyone uses cash anymore and most electronic cash registers are computerized and wouldn't work either. Even if a store could accept cash, I'd bet you'd have a hard time finding anyone who could run a calculator and keep a ledger of the transactions.
  22. Except that the vast majority of people will have no idea why that purple paint is on those trees.
  23. Keep in mind this is only the local government. I feel sure they'll still face federal charges for starting the fire in the park.
  24. While not free, I've been quite happy with SmugMug for many years. If anyone is interested, heres a referral code that will save us both a few bucks (shameless self promotion). https://secure.smugmug.com/signup?Coupon=VlcPcQWTe7dG6
