  1. Kia/Hyundai (same company) was one of my customers when I worked in the auto industry. They were horrible to deal with, worse than the Italians. Having seen their decision making process (or lack thereof), I don't think I could ever buy one. Their success as a car company is wholly attributable to Toyota, whose designs they blatantly copied, and Mercedes, whose styling they blatantly copied.
  2. I would not say they're bypassing the doctor, they're bypassing your doctor. The insurance company sees your test results and has someone presumably qualified to do so, review them and make recommendations. In theory, one would expect they'd consult with your doctor prior to issuing new prescriptions. But as you said, perhaps the insurance company spoke with someone in your doc's office who agreed with the recommendations. The fact that you're entirely unaware all this is happening is distressing but likely par for the course these days, and they call it a service.
  3. Definitely the deck with a cold beverage and a clean, air conditioned bathroom nearby.
  4. And lots of hunting seasons are set up to prevent young animals from being orphaned.
  5. I'm a firm believer that we all get little hints from time to time as to what we should, or should not be doing. Think they'll take the hint?
  6. Looks great, works great. Thanks boss!
  7. Yes.
  8. And it only hurts a little when you accidentally touch the rod to the tungsten while not wearing gloves. Just don't wear a white shirt, especially with AC.
  9. You have the most control with TIG, that why I'm not a big fan of MIG. Yes, you'll need to deal with the complication of gas bottles (argon, preferably) and it's a little slower, but the end results are generally much cleaner and high quality. My welding background is on jet engine parts, so I'm kinda picky. If penetration is an issue, bevel the joint out, clean it thoroughly, and make multiple passes. It's kinda like painting, the better you prep, the better the results.
  10. There's free apps for that now if you've got a smart phone. I use one called scanner radio deluxe.
  11. Top 10 best car chases. My kids love the movie. We got it on DVD after seeing it on TV a bunch. Having not seen the unedited version in quite a while, I was rather surprised at the amount of swearing on the DVD . So I recorded it off tv and they watch that.
  12. Avoid cheap mig welders. Generally, you get what you pay for. Welding isn't super hard to do, but it is hard to get good at.
  13. I agree, trying to get kids home from school could be a total nightmare. Can you imagine the backlash from kids stuck for hours on schools busses? We (and most everyone else we know) already planned to sign our kids out anyway.
  14. Meh, the weather guessers do good to know what's gonna happen tomorrow, much less 10 days out. I hope the weather is good both so I can see the eclipse with my kids and for the boon of tourist dollars to lots of area businesses.
  15. If you're over 21, it doesn't matter. What does this have to do with an SKS thread from 3 years ago?
  16. Sounds like they tried to pull a "State of Franklin". https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/State_of_Franklin
  17. Blount and Loudon County schools finally caved today and cancelled classes.
  18. That would imply that there's an acceptable height (that's not something absurd like 1000ft) from which you can drop the gun and it's ok for it to fire.
  19. Between my heathen horde and my wife, I'm lucky to have 2 nickels to rub together. My wife was even disappointed that I actually spent some of the money I got for my birthday on something for me.
  20. That's exactly what happens when I talk to myself too!
  21. Because yes, there really is a milspec for that. When I worked at Sears in high school "do not drop" printed on a box meant not more than 3 times from not more than 3 ft.
  22. People are already doing that here... Burgers? I'm gonna load up my lawnmower trailer with cold beers and sell to all the folks parked on the side of the road.
  23. Welcome to TN. One of my wife's cousins has a big farm near Dunlap and was trying to develop some quail. They have a big dove hunt there every year. We were just target shooting in one of the fields and he said... "If you shoot the cows or quail, I'll shoot you. If you don't shoot the coyotes, I'll shoot you. Anything else is between you and the game warden."
  24. Most of the local schools are out that day. I intend to be in my driveway, or possibly my in-laws back yard. I think it'll be very cool and I'm looking forward to sharing it with my kids, but I'm nerdy like that. If it's nice, I fully expect a traffic-pocalypse. The path here is right between knoxville and Chattanooga, and Atlanta isn't far away. None of the roads across the mountains are able to handle the expected volume. I think the Atlanta people will be right at home. The USFS has announced they're closing the access roads up to all the prime high spots in the mountains, forcing people to walk miles in some cases if they want to view it. I imagine the Smokys will be a nightmare. The towing companies are licking their chops.
