Saw in the church bulletin Sunday that the Blount Co Sheriffs office is holding free active shooter classes for church security folks.

I used to shoot at this place when I lived near Kingsport years ago. They have a 300 yd rifle range. At that time it wasn't exactly pretty, but it was functional. It was a very shotgun-centric club. https://m.facebook.com/WildernessRoadShootingAndConservationClub/

Yes. Our dog was on several arthritis/pain meds, and just like people meds, they get expensive. We were spending better than $150/mo on pills for the dog over the last couple years. Shots and laser therapy were offered at even higher cost. This dog will keep you busy. Border collies aren't couch potatoes, they need a job to do.

I'm gonna start a Rick Pitino rumor....

If you like the idea of walking the dog fairly regularly, you might look at a retired greyhound. They make good couch potatoes as long as they get out occasionally.

I'm thankful for a happy and healthy family. I'm thankful to be gainfully employed at a job I only hate occasionally that affords a comfortable life for my family. I'm thankful to live in a country that, despite its many problems, gives me the opportunity to be thankful for all the above.

I work with a bunch of talented machinists, all of whom would think this is a really cool project. If you've got questions along the way, post up.

Any way to find out what he drinks now?

Amazon has several of the Gerber tools and knives on sale at the moment.
-
I'm guessing they didn't think of that.

Wear it to the game on Saturday, hunting on Sunday, and picking up trash on Monday. I don't see why they would spare him the indignity at this point. The season's done, may as well let him go down with the ship.

Sighting in deer rifles for deer season

Sight it in however you expect to shoot. If you're shooting from a blind or stand where you can use bags or a rest, then sight in that way. -
My sister and brother in law moved to the Monroe area a few years ago. They seem to like it pretty well.

Open and Concealed Carry- How do you do it?
peejman replied to Ronald_55's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Most people wouldn't notice if you were on fire. Half of those who would notice, wouldn't do anything about it. When I see people printing, or even open carrying, I like to watch the other people around them. It's rare to see anyone react at all, much less negatively. But I'm still kinda anal about being concealed. -
My parents went through it with Mom's mom. It wasn't fun. Among other things, I have vivid memories of Mom sitting my sister and I down after the funeral and telling us with tears in her eyes to never, EVER, let her be the burden on us that her mom was on her.

My neighbor has similar issues with her mother, though her dementia is quite mild. They had a nursing/eldercare service come sit with her occasionally, but after another neighbor found her wandering around the subdivision with no idea who or where she was, they've moved her to an assisted care facility. Sounds like you might be getting to that point. Caring for someone with advanced dementia 24/7 is rough. I'll ask who the sitter service was through.

From the news lines I read earlier, I get the idea that his intent was to kill his in-laws, but they weren't there so he just started shooting. Also appears the sanctuary (using that word causes me pain) had one door, so escape wasn't much of an option.

In response to the church events in Knoxville a few years ago, my church now employs a uniformed local cop during normal services and other large events. So there's a police car in front of the building and the officer is inside, not doing traffic control.

Was the crowd openly hostile toward Jones?
-
Pilot and Dish are major sponsors of the program, what else would their money be spent on? Stadium renovations, apparently. Jones's salary isn't paid (in full) by the university. They're not legally allowed to pay him more than the President of the university. All the extra pay comes from separate entities (booster programs, etc.) that aren't officially part of the university.
-
The longer they wait to dump him (and most of his staff), the cheaper it will be, that's how his contract is structured. That said, $8M is of little consequence to a program that brings in more than $100M annually. The delay in firing Jones tells me that (1) the AD is being pragmatic, as he should and is known for, and (2) they don't think any of his assistants are worthy of replacing him. That may change if they lose this weekend.

Sorry to hear that. It's a bad day for sure.
