A well regulated militia, being the best security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms, shall not be infringed.

You haven't heard anything because they haven't done anything. No sign, no survey markers, nothing.

If you're not responsible/trustworthy/mature enough to drink or own a firearm until you're 21, then perhaps you're not responsible/trustworthy/mature enough to vote or die for your country either.

I would consider your nephew's experience a perfect example of my point. His opinion of eating meat was challenged. It took some time and influence, but he determined that not only did he not agree with the teacher, he didn't have to agree with the teacher, and he's stronger for it. They can agree to disagree. That's an excellent learning experience for later in life.

My experience with the local school my kids go to is similar to @MacGyver. I take my kids to school periodically and talk with the teachers when I'm there. My wife volunteers at the school almost weekly and has become friends with several of the teachers. We don't see any of this liberal indoctrination that so many complain about. I've generally chalked that up to living in hillbilly east TN instead of the "big city", but its good to hear that maybe it's not as wide spread as presented. In my experience, the teachers are working too hard trying to teach the 3 R's with minimal resources to have time to promote an "agenda". There was a very liberal teacher in the adjacent middle school who made some controversial comments a few years ago. He also happened to be a high school classmate of my wife. I don't recall the details at the moment, but they got rid of him pretty quickly. Perhaps pushing "the agenda" gets greater as the kids get older, but I'm not opposed to that in principle. It's good for their beliefs and opinions to get challenged occasionally. It gives good motivation to learn more about a topic and strengthen one's position or change your mind if appropriate. Same as with muscles, if you don't work them hard, they won't get strong. I feel like I have a good enough relationship with my kids that they'll come to me with questions. We can work together to learn the facts and establish a good foundation of knowledge. We already do that to some extent with some of the ridiculous things they hear from other kids at school.

I'm impressed that they were able to track down a suspect so quickly with what appears to be very little information. I'm curious to get more info on the investigation.

That's the worst part. A lot of these kids are being used a pawns to further an agenda they don't fully understand. I'm sure many of them will learn a great deal from this experience, but it will take years for them to grasp the extent of the exploitation they're subject to.

Interested, but already have plans for that weekend.

I'm glad mine go to school in hillbillyville east TN.

Penalties for carrying in a prohibited place.
peejman replied to m16ty's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
Carrying on school property is a felony. But, the law also clearly states that you cannot be criminally charged for carrying illegally if you used the weapon in justifiable self defense. The key word there is "criminally". There's no protection from the civil suit that would likely occur. -
Interesting. Seems like you'd be sitting ducks out there and easily cut off from supply, but I guess they served their purpose.

Me neither, what's the skinny?

Seems like OWB would be perfect if you're wearing a coat all the time. A nice looking, dark colored leather holster would blend in with a similar color belt pretty seamlessly.

Can you imagine the sound that thing made? Wow.

Nationwide school "walk out" for gun control laws
peejman replied to tercel89's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Yep. But "reasonable" will involve compromise from both sides. Neither seems terribly interested in that at the moment. Bitching and whining is so much easier. -
Rule #1: treat every gun as if it was loaded. Sad for the family.

Nationwide school "walk out" for gun control laws
peejman replied to tercel89's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
I'm glad the schools here are on spring break this week. Of course they just wanted out of class for a while. Assuming there weren't any repercussions, I would have too. -
Nationwide school "walk out" for gun control laws

What I find amusing is that many of the kids were shocked to hear that there might be repercussions (suspension, etc.) for walking out of class. Sounds like a good opportunity for them to learn decisions have consequences, regardless of whether or not they think they're supporting a good cause. Though it does appear that a lot of schools are allowing a fairly brief demonstration. -
Welcome!

They exist in standard pressure as well, that's what's in my .45.

More or less what @Omega said. I don't think a suit would ever get to a judge because the law is clear (for now) that bump stocks are legal. I'd guess the only entity that could be sued is the ATF itself, and I'm surprised no one has yet. I'm sure the ruling on bump stocks wasn't handled by a single person. There's likely several layers of internal review prior to publishing a rule. My guess is the ATF couldn't find a way to disallow them within the letter of the existing law. Disallowing them would certainly have resulted in a law suit, and at that time, I presume they concluded it wasn't worth the aggravation. After all, killing people is already illegal.
-
Interesting. I thought the weight limit only applied to modified guns. IPDA has way too many rules.
-
All that's necessary to ban bump stocks is for the ATF to change the rules. There is no legislation or voting inherent in that process. The ATF publishes proposed rule change for public comment. Then they publish a final rule. "Public comment" doesn't mean anything anyone says will cause them to modify the proposed rule, its merely the time period in which they're obligated to accept comments. They are in no way obligated to act on those comments. https://www.atf.gov/rules-and-regulations
