THIS is what activism looks like. What is our side doing?
peejman replied to TGO David's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Oh the irony... Seems the Parkland students are protesting the invasion of their "right to privacy" because the school has implemented a clear bag policy. https://www.usatoday.com/story/news/nation-now/2018/04/03/parkland-student-clear-backpack-tampons-privacy/481287002/ Yes, the same kids who want to strip 2nd Amendment rights from hundreds of millions of people who've done nothing wrong, are angry about infringement of their "right to privacy" that really isn't even an explicit "right". I'll hazard a guess that highlighting their hypocrisy might fall on deaf ears. -
Yep, looks like sniper training to me. Probably a target towed behind an airplane or held aloft by a balloon.
-
Yep. I suspect I'm going to have to cover my garden area with plastic so it'll dry out enough to till.

Welcome!

Amidst all the antigun, a breath of fresh air..

These kids are listening to anyone who steps up to the microphone that doesn't lead with millennial stereotype insults (Laura Ingraham) or talking down to them. If we don't start talking, we'll lose by forfeit. -
If you know of a church doing mission work in Central America or places like Haiti, offer them the hats. I have it on good authority that kids in these places love ball caps.
-
I assumed something similar to that but was curious if there was a difference between long guns and handguns.
-
Indeed.
-
This makes me feel better. Two minutes ago I would have told anyone that I have a lot of hats. Thanks to you guys, it's clear I really don't.

I've not been able to find how they're defining "high capacity". This is the bill they refer to, but I don't see it in there. https://legislature.vermont.gov/bill/status/2018/S.55

Opinions needed on red dot around $200
peejman replied to Erik88's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
I have one of the PA red dots that looks just like the Strikefire, it works fine (lower 1/3 cowitness). I also have a Bushnell TRS-25 that work fine with absolute cowitness. As mentioned, definitely not an Aimpoint, but just fine for messing around. -
We have to continue to engage in the debate, regardless of the lack of logic. If we don't, we'll lose by forfeit. They won't accept the logic the first time or the second time. Keep going. Maybe the light will come on the 22nd time. Its said to take 10,000 repetitions to for a skill to no longer require conscious thought. We can't get angry or frustrated, and we can't relent. As my old wrestling coach used to say... constant pressure, never let up, never give them a moment to breathe and recover. Use their own tactics against them.

Pro-gun pushback in wake of Florida school murders
peejman replied to Whisper's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
We should put it on the table and leave it there until it's addressed with rational discussion. You want to take away my guns. I want to protect your children and mine from people who won't obey any law regardless of how warm and fuzzy that law makes you feel. -

We have to harden the target. Teachers who carry of their own volition is the last line of defense. They need cops on the property. They need cameras. They need to move the perimeter back and reduce the number of access points. -
I'm told there's a "for sale" sign at the entrance to the property.

Tolerance? Turn the other cheek, be the better person, don't stoop to their level, and all that sort of stuff. Otherwise, I don't disagree. Cell phone use while driving, opiates, mental illness, school security, child abuse, ... all these are much larger societal issues that desperately need to be addressed. Unfortunately those aren't easily objectified in the form of scary black rifles. Addressing the real issues requires addressing the people involved, and that's even scarier than the black rifles. -

No arguement. But the point should be made, and remade as many times as necessary.... We're trying to engage in open, rational discussion. If you won't come to the table, who's the one being intolerant? -

If the NRA won't/can't fund sending a bunch of people to these rallies, then how about they send a bunch of the outspoken Parkland students and their families to the NRA annual meeting? Are they willing to have honest discussion or are they only willing to shout from their bully pulpit? As anyone who's done much public speaking will attest, the audience makes all the difference in the world. I don't mean to present a hostile crowd, just that simply knowing your opinions aren't popular changes things. Set up meetings with a variety of "gun people". Competitive shooters, law enforcement, hunters, ... Let them see that we're not the blood thirsty monsters they've been told about, just a bunch of (relatively) normal people who love our country and happen to enjoy firearms as a hobby and/or vocation. -

Ok. Just illustrating that the spin can, and does, go both ways. And I don't necessarily disagree that there won't be much positive coverage of such an event. -

@Whisper @Someotherguy Do you think these photos adequately represent the opinion of everyone who attended the protests? https://www.tngunowners.com/forums/topic/106805-former-scotus-justice-calls-for-2nd-amendment-to-be-repealed/?do=findComment&comment=1485290 -
Definitely shop around. I understand the desire to "buy local", but mortgages get bought and sold every day. With things like a mortgage, a very small difference at the beginning can have a huge effect on the end. Get the best deal you can, regardless of where it comes from. Sometimes increasing your down payment can improve the loan terms. As mentioned, owning a house is expensive. It's rare that anything significant goes wrong and doesn't cost $1000 to fix.

The lack of rational discussion is the biggest problem. We can't let that go anymore. Shaking your head and walking away because you can't wrap your head around the depth of the crazy can't be an option any longer. We HAVE to talk about it. I can't say I have great ideas on how to reason with the unreasonable, as it can be akin to mud wrestling with a pig, but silence is no longer a valid response. As Jared Reston said, don't just fight the fight, win it.
