Make your own.... amend the dirt with mushroom (or home-made) compost and sand, about 50/50 until it drains well enough, then just compost. Ashes are typically good to add as well.

Dick's Sporting Goods anti 2nd A
peejman replied to Patrick Henry's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
Because "assault style rifles" were already less than 1% of their sales. It's a PR move with no impact to their bottom line. Whatever sales they lose from one side they'll likely gain double from the other. Similar to the wedding cake company not selling to a gay couple. SCOTUS has already ruled that to be discrimination. We'll see if those 18-20 will be considered a protected class. -
I can't like this enough times. I was standing in line for BBQ on Sunday and a lady behind me had a diabetes dog, at least that's what the vest said. I overheard her telling another lady that the dog can sense her blood sugar drop about 10 minutes before she can, which I don't doubt. Except that the dog wasn't paying her any mind at all, it was wandering around getting petted by whoever would pay attention to it. She even said "yeah, he doesn't act like much of a service dog, but we're working on that." How/where did you get a "service dog" that isn't trained to act like a service dog? On the flip side, one of my kids' scout leaders has a PTSD dog that's also in K9 training. He was an infantry medic in the sandbox so yeah, no issue there.

I almost always have a spare mag when I carry a single stack, only sometimes when I have a double stack. I probably should carry a spare all the time. If there's the need and opportunity to use all 7 rounds, use them. Obviously don't just spray and pray, but there's not much point in saving them for later.

I understand the motive to keep them occupied and buy time until the cavalry arrives. But if they were unaware and in the open, I wouldn't stop at 2-3 shots unless they were down.

I also believe there's a lot to this. Our awareness of the passage of time has grown exponentially in the last 100 years as technolgy has advanced at an incredible rate. My wife's grandfather is 91. In his lifetime, he's gone from not thinking TV was possible, to rich people having one TV, to almost everyone having a smart TV. From slide rules, to calculators the size of a school bus, to smart phones. It's astounding when you think about it. We were talking about something similar in my Sunday school class related to several of the exceptionally long-lived people in the Bible (Moses, Abraham, Lazarus, Methuselah,...) and how even though they lived hundreds of years, very little changed during their lifetime. Their food, water, shelter, way of life, method of travel, form of communication... all that remained the same for many hundreds of years. Simply keeping up with the pace of life today takes a great deal of time and effort. We've worked very hard to make life physically easier, but it seems we've made it much more difficult mentally.

An ugly win is still a win. When the dust settles, they don't ask how, just how many.

Anyone who's ever been around someone with depression knows it can be a major issue. Catching it early, before it gets to the "homicidal maniac" stage helps significantly. Yes, there are pills that can help one cope with the symptoms, but they don't cure it. Only hard work does that. I hesitate to make the flying leap that the end game for people wanting to screen school kids for depression is to drug them up and strip them of their rights before they're old enough to exercise them.

All the more reason to stockpile about a weeks worth of water along with the food.

Witnesses tend to see and hear all sorts of things that didn't actually happen. The brain fills in the gaps when things happen suddenly.

Wow. Looked like the daughter fired at least once while the BG was wrestling with her mom. I need to practice retention. I hope they get some training.

Help me build my overnight bag
peejman replied to A.J. Holst's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
The usual suspects... cash, first aid kit, knife, fire starter, fishing kit, sewing kit, snacks, water, sunscreen, bug spray, socks, sunglasses, hat, change of clothes?, emergency blanket, assorted zip lock bags, a couple grocery or kitchen bags, duct/gaffer tape, ... -
So that if/when the red dot quits working, all you do is flip up the rear sight and keep going.

My understanding is that those "wait for the cavalry" tactics have changed. They've recognized that the longer you wait in such a situation, the more people die. Get in and engage the threat immediately with whatever you've got on hand. Most crumple at the first sign of real resistance.

Looks great! Wish they'd been small enough for me to haul, Dad would have loved them.

Trump urges ban on 'bump stocks,' other gun modifiers
peejman replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
It's magazines vs clips. Gun people know the difference, most people don't. But I expect they'll revise it to cover "and anything else that violates he spirit of the law". -
That was my expectation. Go peacock somewhere else, you're not helping.
