Steel Ammo Can Prices & Availability
luvmyberetta replied to luvmyberetta's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Thanks everyone. I'll wait until I go to the next gun show & see if I can find some deals. I picked up a large mortar can for about $15 last year at Bud's, but it's way too big to fit in my gun cabinet & the 50 & 30 cans stack perfectly in it so I'm going to ditch the mortar can & replace it with some more 30s & 50s. I'm not storing loose ammo. I'm storing regular 50 & 100 rnd retail boxes by caliber in each can & labeling them. That way I don't have multiple calibers piled on top of each other & in range bags. All I have to do is pop open the can & grab a box. -
I'm not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I couldn't find the info in the forum. How much are the empty 30 & 50 cal steel ammo cans selling for at the Knoxville area gun shows lately? I found some brand new Blackhawk 50 cal cans for $14.99 at an out of town store. The last surplus ammo cans I bought cost me between $7-$10, but that was a couple years ago. The nearest place I've been able to find them is about a 120-150 mile round trip for me so saving a few bucks will help.

What is it about rednecks? One man's dead & the other is in the hospital & may not survive. All of this over a fighting rooster. Darwin's hard at work here... http://wate.com/2015/09/17/uncle-dead-nephew-injured-in-meigs-county-shootout-over-gamecock/

The American built LC9 magazines are junk! There are some lengthy discussions about this subject on the Rugerforum.net Contact Ruger about the problem & they will probably send you an Italian (Mec-gar if not mistaken) mag at no charge or at least on exchange. Several guys have had the same problem with the American made mags & switching to the Italian mags took care of the problem. Ruger has a great CS dept. & will take care of you.

TICKS! - Permethrin options - updated
luvmyberetta replied to whiskey's topic in Hunting and Fishing
My family & I have been wearing bandanas treated with permethrin (Bug Shield) lately & they have definitely made a difference in keeping mosquitos away, but I highly suggest taking lots of B vitamins (B1, B6, B complex) for ticks. I used to get eaten alive by ticks, especially those horrible seed ticks, but I started upping my B intake during tick season a few years ago & haven't had a tick bite in 6 years. That's saying a lot since I'm also a volunteer Boy Scout leader & I camp & hike often. I used to sprinkle garlic on my socks, which does work, but then you have clothes & shoes that smell like garlic. IMHO the extra B intake is a good alternative. -
What is the proper way to privately buy firearms?
luvmyberetta replied to bird333's topic in Handgun Carry and Self Defense
If it's a handgun that I went through an FFL to obtain I'm a little more careful. If the gun is linked back to me through an FFL, I always ask to see a valid TN DL & require a private bill of sale. That's for the protection of myself & the buyer in case the gun is ever stolen or used in a crime someday in the future. If it's a handgun I got through private sale or trade I usually only ask to see a TN DL or TN HCP. -
My dad has the black CPX-2 & likes it. He's only put about 100 rounds through it, but so far it's been reliable & he says it feels good in his hands. After seeing the junk SCCY made it the past, I'm certainly not comfortable enough to trust my life to one yet. He paid $230 + tax for it brand new last year & got a free box of Remington 9mm ammo at the time of purchase. Time will tell if it turned out to be a bargain or not.

+1. Plus they're not trying to have a gun show or show off new products. They're looking for serious people to fill highly sought after job positions. That would be pretty hard to do with "Bubba" hanging out at the LGS talking bull about brand "X". Beretta's the oldest company in the world that's still in existence & has been building firearms for 500 years. I'd say they know a thing or two about how to run a business.

Do you know if it shares any of the same parts as the D models? If so here are a couple sources that might be able to help with a parts diagram. I've ordered from both in the past. Best of luck. http://www.gunpartscorp.com/Manufacturers/MAB-33370/ModelD-37165.htm?results=50 http://www.gun-parts.com/mab/

+1. If he bought them at FFL dealers you might try contacting them to see if they can help you retrieve some of the serial numbers. Without the numbers it will be next to impossible to report them as stolen & track them down. I always keep an updated list of serial numbers including the guns I've traded & sold locked up in a filing cabinet for this reason. Best of luck & I hope they catch the POS.

LMAO!! He's the only guy in the store that can feel the hurricane blowing. I only hope he wasn't attempting to drive that night.

What happened to the days of common sense? He's suing for "emotional damage"? Really?! Crap happens & you get over it. It's not like they threw it in his face or something. Maybe Starbucks should counter-sue this idiot for taking up precious oxygen in the environment. IHO, Starbucks should tell him to...

Some will, but my local WM will not price match items with other WM stores & NEVER on ammo. I tried to get them to price match a Sony DVD player with another WM store last year & they wouldn't budge, even after talking to a manger. My local store will also no longer ship or receive items from one store to another like they used to. They changed their policy a few years ago.
-
+1. My local WM has Perfecta priced within a few dollars of Federal & WWB. The last box of Perfecta 9mm I bought was $12.97/50 rounds & Fed. & WWB were about $15-$16/50 rounds. That still beats my local gun shop who wants $30/50 rnds for WWB & Remington FMJ. Our WM has higher prices than about any WM in East TN because there's no competition in or around my area. The nearest WM is over an hour drive from my town so they can pretty much raise prices however they want. Nearly every item in our local store is 5%-10% higher than Lafollette, Oak Ridge, Clinton, Knoxville, & Somerset, KY. (Lafollette & Somerset are the nearest) That adds up over a year of spending.

HCP Class in Nashville for Women
luvmyberetta replied to Luckyforward's topic in Training Discussions
Here's one in Nashville. "Shooting for Women Alliance". My wife & I took their course in Kodak, TN a few years ago. Rates may vary from area to area, but it cost us $28 each for a reserved spot in the class + the cost of our ammo, which we brought from home. If a spot is open the class is free, but I've NEVER heard of a class not filling up so you might as well go online & prepay. There was about 100 in our class & it was monitored by a member of the TN Highway Patrol. They also provide free loaner handguns for anyone that needs to qualify. http://shootingforwomenalliance.com/ -
The reason I specifically mentioned PAP is because they used to offer warranties in the $40 range plus you can usually try the engine out. We used to take a gas can & a 12V battery with us & fire them up right their in the lot. Either route can become addictive & add up to a lot of dough. I have a '88 Ranger that I was only planning to do a little work on. A small block stroker & more mods than I can list in a week I'm still not done. (Being laid off put a hold on the project) Now here's where I'm at on it & still not done... http://www.cardomain.com/ride/3220092/1988-ford-ranger-regular-cab/

Is there a "Pull-A-Part" salvage yard near you? They sell complete 6 & 8 cyl. engines for $150-$200 & even have an online inventory of vehicles, parts, & prices. Here's a link... http://www.pullapart.com/

The media has shown plenty of ignorance when using this term & it's mainly to get ratings. They want to call every black rifle an "assault rifle" because the other ignorant people watching the news buy into it. Yesterday I was watching one of those real crime shows ("FBI Files" I think) & when one of the lawyers called the shooters 9mm Hi-Point rifle a "black polymer carbine assault rifle". Really...a Hi-point being classified as an assault rifle? I guess that means the Nylon 66 Apache I've had since I was 10 years old is an assault rifle too. Shame on dad for trying to turn me into a terrorist by allowing me to have such a dangerous piece of .22lr destruction. :usa:

luvmyberetta replied to Hammer285's topic in Ammunition and Reloading
Great price! It's $12.97 per/50 (9mm) at my local WM & they only allow three boxes per customer per day. -
Now I have another reason to go to the gun shop/health food store.
-
Grab it! They're great firearms & you could almost double your money on it if you didn't like it.

I feel your pain. I was in the market for a safe a while back, but after being unable to find someone to move it for me I ended up getting a Stack-On 10 gun cabinet. Here's the one I got... https://www.stack-on.com/categories/security-cabinets-gun-cabinets/products/64 It's not "safe" quality, but we're renting at the moment & are planning on moving within the next couple years & didn't want the hassle of trying to hire someone to move a 600+ lb safe in & then right back out. I'll buy a quality safe when we move into something more permanent, but am really happy with the cabinet. I mainly wanted something to keep my handguns & gear out of the hands of my two young sons so it's perfect.

When you purchase a gun at a FFL the shop owner must keep a physical record of the sale (along with all your info) on hand for 20 years before they can be discarded. A friend of mine owns a pawn shop & says he has been visited by the TN BATF & has had to pull records on guns he sold well over 10 years old on more than one occasion because a gun he sold was either stolen, lost, or used in a crime. In many cases the guns had traded hands several times & the BATF needed to track down the original owner & go from there. That's why it's also a good idea to get a private bill of sale whenever trading or selling a gun, especially if you bought it through a FFL.
