Galloway Precision has a new kit for sale that converts the older generation 2 triggers into the new gen. 3 SR9 trigger version. It comes with new trigger bar, striker blocker, new striker crosspin and springs. The older gen. 2 SR's has a factory pull of around 8 lbs. +or- 1 lb, according to Ruger. The upgrade kit is suppost to smooth things out and drop pull weight to around 6-6.5 lbs! That combined with Ghost trigger bar might get us down to the advertised weight 3.5-5 lbs, depending on trigger bar chosen.

I just recieved an email from Arthur Viani at Ghost Inc. I emailed him asking about a few SR9 trigger bar problems I had heard about. His reply : "The version of the Ruger trigger bar does not matter. There some cases of problems with our product, all of the ones we have had the chance to examine have had their Ruger trigger bar polished. What we have found is that the Ruger trigger bars have a surface that is hardened. This works great but is not good for polishing. It appears that polishing removes enough material to affect the hardness, exposing the softer part of the steel. This can cause flat spots, galling or lockup as you stated. What we have found is that you should not polish any internals of the Ruger SR series pistols, just shoot them with oil on the contact points and after 200-500 rounds the parts will mate and everything smooth's out." Still sound promising. Mr. Viani suggested trying the Rocket. He said they have had great results with it. I may give Ghost a try before doing any polishing. There's another company starting to produce SR9 trigger bars & custom SR9 parts, but I've not heard anything on them yet as far as real world performance. I may wait a bit longer and see how 'kieefer's' SR9 project turns out. Best of luck to you 'kieefer'. Keep us all posted.

I'm usually one of the last to know about new products, but wanted to post anyway in case someone else was like me & looking for hard to find parts. I was on the Ruger forum and someone told about a site that sold high performance & competition parts for the SR series pistols. I went there and imediately started to drool at the possibilities. www.gallowayprecision.com They advertise 19+1 & 23+1 mag conversions, full trigger & spring kits, and a lot more. They even carry Stainless steel SR9 guide rods. I also recieved an email from a guy named Steve Bedair that makes custom stainless SR9 & SR40 guide rods. www.guiderod.com

I got a call from Ruger this morning about it. They said the factory trigger pull should be 8 lbs + or - 1lb either way. He said if the pull weight is over 9 or less than 7, to send it in for a check & they could work on it, but not modify it beyond factory specs. He also said the newer gen 3 triggers will not work in any of the older SR9's with gen 1 or 2 triggers...but there is a ray of hope. On the Ruger forum last night I was introduced to a very interesting site that made me drool! It's dedicated completely to Ruger SR9 performance parts, including full trigger & spring kits and 19+1 round & 23+1 round mag conversions! Their site is www.gallowayprecision.com There's also a guy that makes impressive looking stainless steel guide rods for the SR9 - Steve Bedair at www.guiderod.com

I got the box a few passes back and it was a huge box that was half empty. The guy that had it before me & didn't taped it up very well & left one of the cardboard flaps loose. Parts were flyin' around & jingling...ever tried to explain to the USPS as to why you were recieving a package with spent bullet casings & gun parts spilling out? I managed to fit everything into a flat rate box, added my items, and sent it on its way. It was kind of neat to see all the places it had already been to before me.

Watch the recoil...you might shoot 'em off!

The one with the trigger control bar is the one I'm interested in too. I emailed Ghost about the weight drop, but haven't heard back yet. Their site claims it has to do with the bar angle, but I wonder if you might have to replace a spring to achieve real world results? I've heard a few guys on the Ruger forum talking about trimming the striker spring a coil or two to get a lighter pull, but don't like the idea of cutting springs to drop trigger weight. I'd rather have a heavy pull and my pistol go bang than a light pull and just hear 'click'!

Oh, man. That doesn't sound good. I hope it works out well for you. I know nearly anything that says 'drop-in' usually isn't, but keep me posted. I'd like to see how this progresses. Maybe with a little tweaking it will work for you. If nothing else, maybe Ghost Inc. will stand behind their "No BS Return Policy" they always brag about.

I have the second SR9 version, made after the recall. Its a pretty smooth trigger except for that annoying 'snap' at the end of the pull. I polished and cleaned the internal firing parts and smoothed it out a bit, but want to lighten the pull to about 4-5lbs. I contacted Ruger hoping to get a gen 3 trigger installed or shipped, but they said they do not install the newer version triggers & certainly not for free. The free service is only for factory warranted parts and recalled firearms. This was sent to me by email from Ruger "Sturm, Ruger does not offer conversion kits for our pistols and will not change one from their original, factory specifications." Oh well. The Ghost trigger mods only cost $20-$30 depending on the version you want, but they sound a little too good to be true. They claim an instant drop to either 5 or 3.5 lbs just by adding their trigger bar. They claim you don't even have to change springs. I may just break down and give 'em a try. Thanks for the input.

I always try to tip & be polite. I try to picture myself in their shoes. I used to work at Autozone and occassionally recieved tips, but was just happy to have a job & actually enjoyed the job. I like helping people. I remember getting a tip from a poor school teacher who barely had $2 to rub together. It didn't feel good accepting it, since I knew he was poor, but he insisted & I've never passed up a chance to help him when I could, even after hours. Then another time, I took part of my (unpaid) lunch break to drive down the road and give a jump start to a guy in a brand new Dodge dually. I wasn't looking for a tip, but didn't even get a thanks. He just rudely said "It sure took you long enough!", and then pulled out. Oh, well. On the other side. I was in a restaurant once and at the end of a $14 + change, meal only had $20 in my wallet so I left it all to cover the tip. I went to the bathroom and on my way out heard the waitress make a comment about me being a cheap a$$hole & only giving her a $5 tip. It made me a little upset & I wondered what she would say if she knew it was my last $20. I was laid off at the time and didn't go out much, but still wanted to be generous. I remembered the 'Golden Rule' and let it go, but did request a different waitress the next time we were there. I later heard she was fired for being an a$$hole to another customer. What goes around...

Bump...still hoping to hear from someone with a Ghost trigger in their SR9. I wonder if they really work as well as they claim?

That's a great looking shotgun. Not everyday you find a deal like this on one in such nice condition.

SR9 in Olive Drab/Black & Viridian Laser
luvmyberetta replied to luvmyberetta's topic in Show and Tell
Thanks. The holster's a Fobus GLT Tactical series. As for the color...most people that see it either love it or hate it. When I saw it in the store I loved it, but that's just me. The camera flash brightened up the green just a bit. It's actually true olive drab, but thanks for the Kermit quote anyway. Now that songs gonna be stuck in my head the rest of the night. -
If you want to sell it, you'll be better off selling on TGO or to an individual. I bought one like this, but with black grips for $250 at a pawn shop in Knoxville. A few months later I had some emergency bills come up & sold it with a couple of spare mags for $450. A pistol is only worth what a person is willing to give, but I don't think you'll have a problem getting a lot more out of it.

Even hardware stores sale tactical gear. Take an everyday item like black electricians tape. Isn't electrical tape just a - tactical black, adhesive, electronic repair device? Put that on the label and you can charge more for it. In all fairness, I gotta admit, I have a pump shotgun with a black pistol grip stock, side saddle, and heat shield. Why? Cause it looks tacti...um...I mean cool. I like it, but I know it doesn't have a real practical everyday use. It's just a heck of a lot of fun to shoot. Now I'm off to fleabay to look for a tactical computer mouse so I can play some covert solitaire.

+1 to OP. I have a Beretta Cougar in .45 ACP and love it. Like he said, it's an "all metal gun". Even the .45 has a very controllable recoil and is amazingly accurate. I'm thinking of getting a Stoeger...I just haven't decided on 9mm or 40. These are even made on the original Beretta machining equipment, just in a different country & a lot better price.

I am thinking seriously of transitioning from Glock to Ruger SR9/40 for EDC
luvmyberetta replied to a topic in Handguns
I love my full size SR9. Bought it in olive drab a year ago and have put every kind of ammo you could think of through it without a single hitch. It has a lot better feel than the Glocks I've tried. It always goes bang when I pull the trigger & puts holes right where I want 'em. It's a well made firearm & I think you'll be pleased with the SR9. I haven't tried the 40 yet, but will in a few weeks. -
Yeah. I know what you mean. I wanted to mount a set of Toyota fog lights, but the car battery kept falling off the reciever. Thanks.

I enjoy seeing other gun pics and thought I would add a few of my own. Here's my Ruger SR9 with matching olive drab Viridian green laser. Shoots like a dream. I bought the Fobus holster from a generous TGO member. The holster is a Fobus GLT Tactical series that allows carry of lasers, lights, etc. with instant access to your weapon. The holster looks shiny in the pics, but actually matches the matte black pistol slide. I had just cleaned and oiled it before I took the photos. Thanks for looking.

The AK looks really nice with the tan outfit.

Here's my 12ga. Mossberg '500AT'. It came from the factory as a 'cruiser' , but I've added a full length ATI stock, ATI side saddle (with some 3" 00 buck), ATI muzzle mount, polymer heat shield, Blackhawk forend, & a Magpul polymer rail. I've also pictured it with a couple surefire lights. I have the factory Mossberg pistol grip and forend & still practice with the pistol grip sometimes. I keep it real clean and its always been realiable. I think it looks pretty good for a 36 year old shotgun & it's a lot of fun to shoot! Thanks for lookin'.

I've had a black polymer heat shield on my Mossberg 500 for about 8 years and its great. (Made from the same polymer/plastic as many pistol frames.) It still looks new and you don't have to worry about scratching it or the barrel. They handle high temperatures & won't scratch, dent, or rust like steel ones & actually protect your gun better than metal ones. Smack the polymer one with a hammer and it will just flex and absorb the hit. I think I paid about $20 for mine online.
