My wife finally got bit by the gun bug. She bought her first gun.
luvmyberetta replied to luvmyberetta's topic in Handguns
I decided to make my wife a holster for her new purchase. I think it turned out pretty good, although the leather had a few blemishes to start with. I'll make a better one later. I started yesterday and finished it tonight. I used 6 oz leather and lined the inside with black suede to protect the finish & dyed to match the gun. I hand punch every hole using a Tandy Leather punch and stitch everything by hand with waxed nylon thread. -

Simple answer. Because she liked it! She's an experienced shooter already & it won't be a carry gun. It's for the range. This just happened to be her first gun purchase, not her fist time shooting. By the way...she can tear it up pretty good at the range with my Cougar .45 acp & my SR9, without a problem! -
Remember how good it felt when you finally bought your first gun? After shooting several different pistols and revolvers at the range with me, my wife finally asked me to take her gun shopping for her own gun. She picked out a Ruger Single Six with a 5.5" barrel as her first official gun purchase. I think she made a good choice. She still shoots mine, but she's happy to have one she can call her own. In a couple weeks I'm taking her to get her carry permit.

Put some white paint where you want your dot and then go over it with a couple layers of V10 paint. They sell it in water base and solvent base. For pistols, you want to use solvent base unless you want to repaint every time you clean you pistols. The solvent based paint will withstand gun cleaners. Glow Inc. also has their glow paint different colors, not just green.

I used V10 paint from Glow Inc. & it works great. It's about $15.00 for an ounce, but that's enough to do about 30-40 pistols and it glows for up to 24 hours after being charged with a light. It also withstands gun cleaning chemicals. The photo below is of my Cougar on the left, with the painted sites - and my PX4 on the right, with Trijicon sites. This is more than an hour after I charged the paint with a light, for only 5 seconds & it's still brighter than the Trijicon sites. Charge before bed and it stays very bright all night. I've had the paint on my pistol for several months and its still as bright as when I applied it.

I think I'll hang on to the Mossberg, but thanks for the offer. Someone tried to break into a house we were renting years ago and the police suggested a sawed off for home deffense, so I found this one. If not at the range, I'll usually put the pistol grip back on for HD. I've become very efficient at shooting from the hip + I just added a TLR-1s weapon light with C4 L.E.D. & strobe.

The most effective gun is the one YOU can use most efficiently; no matter the caliber. As far as over penetrating...check out different brands of hollow points. Mag Safe makes pre-fragmented HP's just for the purpose of not over penetrating, but they hit extremely hard because they have a very high velocity. They're a little on the pricey side, but it is for self defense.

'Galloway Precision' sells performance springs and kits online. They specialize in aftermarket SR9 parts. They even have a kit that gets you all the way down to 3lbs!

I haven't shot it yet, but my wife and I are going to the range in the morning to try out the 90-Two and my new PX4. As far as feel & balance, just holding it...I like it better than the 92 or 96. The grip feels much more comfortable + you can buy grips with different thickness to get what fits you hand best. I'll post after I get back from the range tomorrow to let you know how it shoots.

My family's been telling me that for years, but I'm not sure it had anything to do with me being a 'Berettaholic'.

RK Gunshow This Weekend 3/12-3/13 Knoxville

There was one vendor about 3/4 toward the back on the left that had open 9mm & .40 Glock mags for $5 each, but I agree...a lot of stuff was way over priced. Usually is at most shows. The best deals usually come from private sellers. For once I actually went home with more money than I brought with me. That usually doesn't happen. I'm still looking for another Beretta to add to the colection. -

Went to the Expo gunshow today & there was a big turn out. I think it took longer to park than to drive the 75 miles to get there. My dad sold his M39 Mosin Nagant, traded his SKS, and I sold my Ruger before I got 10 feet through the door. Went home with a case of ammo and some other goodies. Oh, yeah. All in all, it was a good day & everyone went home happy. -
One thing is to not bid until as late as possible whether its hours, minutes, or seconds. Remember. The earlier you bid the higher the price will go. I've seen people bid days before an item ends hoping to win and they are almost always outbid 99% of the time. Now that I have DSL, I can wait until 3 or 4 seconds before the end of an aution and I always bid odd amounts, like $.56 or $.06 & I win about 90% of the items I go for. Sometimes I get outbid even then due to another bidder having a higher max bid, but I usually use my max bid anyway so it never bothers me. Sometimes it turns into a game.

I'm a big guy too so I know what you mean. Thought about just duct taping one to my belly, but that brings on other problems...like a pistol covered in hairy duct tape. I've been practicing with a stiff nylon pancake holster. It's very comfortable when I'm out walking, but it causes problems with my small car and its bucket seats. I feel real comfy with a shoulder holster. I don't know how you feel about shoulder rigs, but it's an option. Oh, before I get questions about it. Duct taping a pistol to my belly was a joke. I'll never try that twice.

One possibility is to go to a range that rents pistols and try out a few to see what you like. Everyone has a preference toward a certain gun. It's hard to guess until you get to shoot one. Any of these you picked are good quality. What is comes down to is which one suits you and feels best to shoot. Good luck.

Here's a good one.

I'm gonna try to go. My dad wants to sell or trade off his SKS so he can get a 308 bolt action. I'd like to find a nice Beretta or XDM. -
Give kieefer a shout. Last I heard, he was getting good results and was happy with it.

Finally grabbed a Mosin
luvmyberetta replied to gregintenn's topic in Curio, Relics and Black Powder
My dad has one of the Finnish models and it's an extremely accurate rifle. Mosins are top notch shooters. -
That's a really good price. I just checked their site. The only thing that sucks is Midway wants $11 for shipping on an $8.99 item. Otherwise...
-
The only store I've found it in is Smoky Mountain Knife Works in Sevierville. It's $8.99 a can. I've seen it online, but the cheapest online store is probably Ballistol's site. I think four 6oz cans - $38 shipped.

Huh. A foreign car with a plate with the name of a foreign president.

I don't think you need to be concearned, unless you think it is used or abused. You might go back to the dealer and ask about an exchange or go look somewhere at another identical pistol in a store and see if it looks similar. These are incredible pistols and great shooters. I've had over 2,500 rounds through mine without a single misfire, failure to feed, or problem of any kind.
-
If you mean the groove near the end of the barrel. That is suppost to be there. It was designed that way. I think it has to do with clearance.
-
Did this come new from a dealer or an individual. As for the barrel residue. That's normal on a new pistol since they usually test fire them at the factory. The markings on the outside of the barrel looks as though it has actually been fired quite a bit or at least had the slide opened a lot. I have the same pistol you are showing and it should have a small envelope with a factory shell casing and test firing date. If these are not included then I would be concearned about it being "new". I've fired mine a couple thousand times and my barrel isn't scratched like that.
