  1. Save your rimfire brass also. They can be swaged into .224 dia. bullets.
  2. With the shortage of components, and the rise in prices am researching swaging my 223 bullets from 22lr brass. Doesn't seem to be to complicated but the swaging dies are expensive. I have lathe and can make my own swaging dies. I really would like to see the process in person instead of videos. Any one close to Paris or Union City swag?  I'm not sure if I want to invest too much time in this without eyeballing this process. Any information would be greatly appreciated.
  3. I plan on going on Saturday. Who is promoting it? Will see you there.
  4. Any one going to Alexander's gun auction in Martin on Sat. 20th? I  have a flyer, looks to be more than 170  to be auctioned. Should be posted on auction site on the internet. alexander auctions.com. A couple of old Colt I may go look at.
  5. Being a veteran , this looks like discrimination to me, I didn't choose to make a career of the military but I served in Viet Nam. If they want to do something for veterans maybe a free or  cheap lifetime hunting and fishing license would be more appropriate. The more I think about this the more ticked off I get. My closest neighbor is a Korean war veteran and I have some WW2 vet friends, boy this is just another slap in the face to all veterans. If you cannot do it for all veterans  then don't do it for a few. I just emailed my state senator and representive urging them to oppose this legislation. Rant over!
  6. Had a platoon sgt, Sgt. Hogue, in Nam that carried a 38 s& w with pearl grips instead of a 45,  don't know if he was more comfortable shooting the 38 or was trying to look like Patton. Of course this was his secondary weapon. To each his own, carried my 32 derringer yesterday , had to go to St. Thomas in Nashville for some test on my wife, and had to leave home at 2:30 to get there by 5:30, but did not feel undergunned driving at that time of night. When the adrenalin starts to flow you don't always hit what you shoot at.
  7. DaveS the cannons I make and shoot are hobby size. The biggest bore will be about 1 1/16" bore and maybe 12" to 14 in long. Just getting started shooting them, my large lathe is down and not running, so all I have to use right now is my tinker toy atlas 12" x 36in . Like that flame, steel wool as packing will put out a nice fire ball in these small cannons. Do you have and shoot any motars?
  8. A 32 derringer was what I carried before hcc was legal. Had to travel mostly at night and when I got tired I would find an exit and park on the side of the road, like the truckers do, to cat nap,lay the seat back and put my derringer in my hand on my chest and sleep.Travelled into Ill, KY,Tn,Ga,Ala. never had a problem. Always said the first thing someone would see would be the whites of my eyes opening and the second thing would be the flash of that 32. Would fit in my pants pocket very well. Have two of them with consective serial numbers. Almost forgot about the 22 derringer we made for assistant superintendent at the Vocational School in McKenzie in 1965.Drafting class drew a set of prints and we made it in the machine shop.Different time different world.
  9. The last local bp I bought at Dixie Gun works in Union City, buy the time you pay sales tax goex was about 24 bucks. I ordered a mixed case of diamond back from the link above with hazmat and shipping it was 12 dollars a pound. Shooting the cheaper stuff in cannons and hand gonnes makes it easier to shoot bigger loads. If hunting with bp I would probably use the Swiss bp. Pyrodex at walmart is about the same price as goex from Dixie gun works. Pyrodex is nasty stuff and I no longer use it. I also reload 41 colt,38spl,and 38S&W cartridges with bp. I like the smoke and noise. Loaded a large thunder mug with 4 oz and used a tennis ball as projectile step daughter was filming it and almost dropped the camera when fired. With 4oz loads it cost about 5 bucks a shot. With the hand gonnes and hand cannons only use 30 to 60 grains. Fuse is cheap also. We also load the brass shotshells with bp they are a hoot to shoot.Want to go dove hunting this year and use the brass shells loaded with bp in my old stevens 235 double with side hammers like the old timers did back in the old days.
  10. Link to Black Powder http://www.addictedtoblackpowder.com/ Cannons .780, hand gonne .625, cheroot cane cannon .32, Japanese hand cannon .32 Have to allow for windage.
  11. Anyone here enjoy shooting bp? Started making small thunder [signal] mugs last year. Got interested in making small cannons and handgonnes also. Have a few older friends that enjoy shooting bp. Been working on a Japanese sleeve [hand]cannon using precussion caps to fire it.Cannot exert enough force by squeezing the firing lever to ignite the cap. Experminted with the plastic ring caps for cap guns and they will ignite the charge in the hand cannon. This thing had about drove me crazy, but have finally figured it out.Can buy bp in bulk and have cheap shooting. Working on molds to cast round projectiles to shoot in them. Making a set of dies to load the brass shotshells in my single stage press.Like shooting bp almost as much as smokeless.
  12. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uSo-RUCItJo Finally got to try out my hand cannon, had to video to capture shooting it.Using cap gun plastic caps as precussion cap with 2f in the nipple and 1cc 3f blank load.
  13. MinerJohn have you checked ebay? Bought one off there last spring.
  14. I shoot black powder loads in my old 38's. Traded for a bunch of 125 gr. rn cast bullets last year washed the hard lube off of them and tumbled lubed in lee alox and loaded them with black powder and they shoot good at 25-35 ft.
  15. Red333 have about 150 + of the 45 colt with the crimp groove w-w and fed head stamp you can have , I have enough for my pistols so don't need these with crimp groove. Pm your address and I will put them in the mail for you. Have too much stuff trying to clean some of it up.
  16. Jason this is where I found the write up and drawings couldn"t get it to copy and paste. http--www.ammomfg.com-funstuff-45_shot_cartridge.pdf
  17. 357SIG you're just down the road from me.Maybe we can get together and shoot sometime.I use a.5cc lee dipper of alliant 20/28 shotgun powder because I have a bunch left from reloading my 28 ga remington shells and because it is compressed with the 410 wad in the 308 necked down brass. If you use the LC brass you have to deburr inside really good for the 410 wad to start or you may cut the skirt and damage it. The commerical 308 brass will fit the 410 wad easier. I made a wad cutter and use plastic ice cream bucket lids for my overshot wads.
  18. kcraig having been a machanist for over 40 I know what you mean.My wife calls me anal retentive because things have to be done right.
  19. Mostly just because I want too. I have an H-bar ar-15 colt preban that I have never shot, have a mini-14 that I shoot.Would like to have a cheap ar with the bump stock and beta mag just to shoot almost auto, haven't shot a machine gun or anything close to full auto since Viet Nam.
  20. Google obtaining atf license and you will find an answer to any question you have. You can gunsmith under an o1 ffl, according to faq on the atf website.I only work on my own guns so I don't have an o1 license.
  21. Have one with the firing pin broken off the hammer, anyone have any experience changing out the hammer on one of these?
  22. Yes they cycle my RIA 1911 very well, and at 15 ft they pattern really good. I use a 410 ga wad so the rifling doesn't mess up the pattern. I also load them for my 1937 Brazilians  necking down a 308 LC brass nearly the whole length of the cylinder, using a full length 410 wad and 7 1/2 and 8 shot but I use an overshot card instead of crimping. A good up close vermin load. Will try to get my wife to get some pictures of them. The commerical brass is easier to work with but I only had 500 LC to use.
  23. Spots, I'm old and retired all I want to do is play with toys. I make small bp cannons and hand gonne toys just to make noise with. Used to live in Oliver Springs back in 69-70 when I worked at y-12. Always liked that part of the country. Also do a little iron work with the hammer.
  24. Any body else getting ready for carpenter bee season? Stockpiling carpenter bee loads. Have about 600 loaded with walnut media, in 45 acp,45lc and 38 spl. Had made a set of dies for the 45acp shotshell loads from drawings I found on the internet last year and finally tried them out in my RIA 1911, impressive at 15 ft. Ran 2 mags in the 1911 worked really well.
  25. Nutts&Bolts what weapon did you use with the beta mag? Any experience with the bump stocks? Would be cool a beta mag and a bump stock, could really spray and pray.
