Trump administration moves to ban bump stocks
Erik88 replied to The Legion's topic in 2A Legislation and Politics
So what is the penalty for possession? In a few months formerly law abiding citizens will now be criminals. All for what? Does anyone think the NRA would have remined silent if a Democrat had done this? HELL NO! At least the GOA is going to fight it. They will get my money from now on. https://thehill.com/regulation/421928-gun-rights-group-says-it-will-sue-over-bump-stock-ban -
Are getting very creative. https://mobile.twitter.com/FOXNashville/status/1074715025506471937

We went and saw it today. Good film. Definitely not an action packed movie but worth seeing.

The wife and I have found we usually agree with rotten tomatoes who gave it a 63. I'm still going to see it though. I love Clint and he won't be around much longer.
-
I really want to see it and may actually go to the theater which we NEVER do. I was surprised it didn't get great reviews.

My dad died about 90 seconds. He said he was "aware" he had passed away and even though it was tough to describe, it was the most peaceful feeling he's ever had.

Happy to see you back here and happy to hear you're doing well.

The Parkland Shooting Commission has released their findings. Their recommendation is armed teachers after 13-1 vote. The Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School Public Safety Commission voted 13-1 to recommend the Legislature allow the arming of teachers, saying it's not enough to have one or two police officers or armed guards on campus. Florida law adopted after the Feb. 14 shooting that left 17 dead allows districts to arm non-teaching staff members such as principals, librarians and custodians — 13 of the 67 districts do, mostly in rural parts of the state. https://www.foxnews.com/us/parkland-shooting-commission-recommends-teachers-be-armed-to-stop-violence

We're a proud bunch so it's hard for us to admit that that are a few things that they get right overseas. It's not like they're less productive either. In fact, most people recognize that a human can only work so much before they actually become less productive.

Of course not. Just like I don't think ANY gun law is going to do much of anything. I don't think the government should make someone a criminal for owning a gun because they smoke weed or do coke. I think you and I are saying the same thing in different ways. Even if you hate weed/cocaine/etc you have to agree that this question on the form isn't going to stop them from getting both.

Most of us spend more time at work than we do with our own families. To spend that much time somewhere and be miserable just isn't healthy. I'm convinced stress will lead to an early death. I think research is starting to link stress and that constant "fight or flight" response we feel to alzheimer's and such. The problem is that there is usually a correlation between the amount of money you make and the amount of stress. I don't make a ton of money in my current role, and it's essentially a dead end, but I have zero stress and I work barely 40 hours a week. I'd love to be making $20K more but in my industry I'd most likely be working 55 hours a week and stressed all the time. The other thing that really sucks is that due to skyrocketing health care prices you really have to look at the companies benefits before making a switch. My current company has benefits that are so horrible I can't even afford them. We have to use my wife's which still costs us $300/month. The insurance at my job would cost me around $10K year. It's sad that that's even part of the consideration.

After Cohen's sentencing yesterday I was speaking to a coworker about the fact that we have people serving life sentences for weed while white collar crime gets off with a slap on the wrist. It's ridiculous. I think Massie is right, had the GOP legalized weed I think they would have kept the house. Alcohol is far more dangerous and just worse for you in every way.

Someone on Reddit posted this. I promise I don't follow this website. From everything I've read Massie is the real deal. He's honestly what the rest of the GOP should try to be. https://www.marijuanamoment.net/gop-congressman-wants-marijuana-consumers-to-be-able-to-legally-purchase-guns/ MM: Are you hopeful that marijuana reform will be accomplished in the next Congress? TM: I think it was a huge missed opportunity for Republicans. I think if we had passed a bill that left this issue up to the states, I think we might still be in the majority. There are, believe it or not, there are one-issue voters out there and this is their issue for some of those voters. For some of them, it’s a secondary or tertiary issue. But it still affects which party they decide to vote for. I’ve polled constituents in my district—it’s a very conservative district—and whether or not they’re for outright legalization of marijuana, 75 percent of Republicans and 75 percent of Democrats in my congressional district are in favor of leaving it up to the states.

I'm getting really tired of the people saying "no one is coming for your guns." My patience for that is wearing thin. This grabber bingo is too accurate.

I think you made a typo there Doug. If it was an 8.8 we'd be dealing with a catastrophic event. The first event was a 4.4 followed by a 3.3

@Garufa has one too. Has it been reliable so far? I like the fact that it uses Glock magazines.

Strongest quake to hit east TN since the 70's. I slept right through it.

Look at the air quality in that dump. Nothing like breathing pure lead. The more I read about Brazil the more I'm convinced I'll never visit.

This is how I imagine this law will work. -
Wow. When was the last time you got that much snow? I know Kingsport typically gets more than Knoxville but that seems like a lot.
-
Starting hearing freezing rain this morning that has turned to snow. Less than 1" so far. Folks in Asheville are reporting 10 inches so far, some without power.
-
Nothing but rain so far in Loudon County. Not surprised.

It's still insanely expensive for non ethanol gas. Not even remotely affordable for me.
