This isn't the politics section and that has no relevance in this thread. To be honest Dave, I don't care what you think. You could disappear from this forum tomorrow and I'd barely notice. Much like a fart in the wind. This forum is barely hanging on, aside from the classifieds which account for 90% of the posts here. God forbid I try to generate some conversation here over a topic I thought was relevant and interesting. Why you're trying to take it off topic with your response is anyone's guess. I do believe he was railroaded. The ATF raided his home based on charges that were false and it was determined their search warrant was illegal. The ONLY reason he was even able to be charged is because he had a minuscule amount of plant that makes people hungry and lazy. He then had a small fortune of firearms stolen. So yes, I do believe that is the definition of government over reach. It's not like they suspected him or running a drug operation and raided him for that reason. If that were the case I'd have less sympathy.
-
I alluded to that in my earlier post. Pretty sure that's not illegal though. Like I said, He pissed off the ATF and they found a way to put him in prison. It's that simple.
-
Just so I'm clear, you're good with the ATF raiding a guys farm, ruining his life, and stealing nearly half a million dollars over 1/2 once of the devils lettuce? That's not even why they raided his place. That was just the ONLY thing they were able to pin on him after what was clearly a b.s warrant to begin with.
-
He actually had to serve 2 months in federal prison. He's a convicted felon and will never be able to shoot a gun again.
-
No, it wasn't a murder investigation. His business partner was murdered but that has nothing to do with what happened here. ATF spokesman Richard Coes said the justification for the search was "that [Myers] was using explosives and getting paid for it via YouTube."[23][24] According to Myers, the case was originally tried on the state level but it was appealed to the federal courts due to the state's justification for searching his home was that "he was wearing shorts." The Federal courts prosecuted on the grounds that illegal drug possession while owning a firearm is a federal offense. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/FPSRussia

Very true. The bottom line here is that they went looking for some way to lock him up and this was all they could find. I suppose the lesson here is that if you're going to dabble in class 3 weapons perhaps it's best to fly under the radar and not project it to the world via Youtube. From what I can tell, that's about all he was guilty of. Someone at the ATF or other, didn't like what he was doing.

Many of you will probably remember FPS Russia from his funny and over the top YouTube videos. From what I gathered, he got the attention of the feds who basically took it upon themselves to find a way to put him away. They ended up searching his house and finding..............wait for it....... 1/2 ounce of marijuana. They initially wanted him to go to prison for 25 years. He ended up pleading guilty and serving 2 months. They also confiscated $400,000 worth of firearms. I don't expect much sympathy from the anti-weed crowd here but think about this for a minute. The man had 1/2 ounce of a substance that is now legal in 33 states for medicinal purposes. He wasn't selling it, he wasn't a danger to anyone. He was guilty of pissing off the wrong people. That's what it boils down to. He explains how he beat the state charges due to a bad warrant but didn't beat the federal charges.

If someone wanted a budget friendly pump shotgun that Winchester SPX is a good deal. $199.

Imagine the headline if this gun ended up being used in a crime. "Stolen gun, ignored by police used to kill "xyz". Maybe the police need to be reminded of this potential outcome...

Whatever you do, I wouldn't meet that guy alone. Bring a friend or two. Meet in a very public place. I'm curious to see what the BATFE has to say.

When I moved to Florida, my TN permit became inactive once I got a Florida driver's licence. So in theory, the OP could just never declare residency in the other state and keep his TN permit but he'd likely be breaking a few laws in the new state. My dad recently moved back to TN after a 7 year stint in Texas. He was surprised to learn that they let him renew his carry permit at the DMV. He didn't even have to retake the class which is odd. When I moved back to TN in 2015 I had to redo the entire process. Something clearly has changed.

I remember that story. I believe a snapping turtle was consumed that summer as well. Possibly even a opussum.

That's fair. I still don't understand why the other windshield was over $600.
-
Some of us tried to warn you to not get cheap glass man. This is why.
-
I would try to find out why that windshield is so expensive? I know some of the new vehicles haven tech and sensors in them but I don't understand what a 2007 would have. I know people on the Tundra forum got aftermarket glass and regretted it. Cheap glass scratches and chips easily. I probably wouldn't do it. I also wouldn't file a claim unless it was free. I'm gonna preach for a minute because my wife worked in insurance. Gutting your insurance is a terrible idea. That's one of the last things you should cheap out on. Also, you'll find that there isn't much difference in your premium with going from $1,000 to $500 deductibles. You should change your other 2 cars and up your coverage limits. My wife and I carry a $1M umbrella policy and it's less than $200 year.

Jennings is the man but Shrout was great too. And yes, JG stepped up today.

How about the 3rd string quarterback? The Vols looked good today. I was proud of them.

Maybe the picture is making it look smaller but is that cage even big enough for a ground hog?

Desperate times...

You and I have both agreed on this in the past. The current system is not working. Now that's a stretch. I never said Sturgill deserved it. But leaving your door unlocked while you sleep, the NEXT DAY, is stupid. He's a slow learner it seems.

I recently listened to a podcast about Ed Edwards, a serial killer. He had a terrible childhood. That doesn't excuse his behavior, it only explains it. My point is, having a crappy childhood is not an excuse to break into homes. If they know about 14 break-ins, he likely did a lot more than that. Sturgill's comments that the system is "throwing his life away" is ridiculous. I have no doubt the kid needed guidance, but that doesn't mean he gets a pass. Lot's of people grow up in bad situations and go on to make a decent life. My dad is a good example. I disagree. The man had a break in, and then left his door unlocked the very next day. That's stupid. He also had an alarm he apparently does not use. I'm simply pointing out how flawed this guys home security plan is.

I seriously doubt convicted felons are calling the TBI to argue that they are entitled to buy a gun.

Best Range/Cleaning/Storage Toolboxes??
Erik88 replied to DaveTN's topic in Firearms Gear and Accessories
Thanks exactly what I did Dave. I had an old tackle box laying around that I re-purposed into my gun cleaning kit. It's been perfect. All those little dividers make it easy to keep everything organized. There is a space in the bottom big enough to put some of the bigger items. I keep this under my work bench in the garage where my guns get cleaned. Now, I don't like mixing my range items with this though so I have 2 separate bags for the gun range. One small one I got from LA Police gear and one bigger one from Midway USA. I'm sure you could find a way to keep both in the same bag if that's what you desire. -
I think the key here is that Greg won't HAVE to work. If he gets bored, he can always find another job but having the freedom to choose is pretty sweet. That's what I'm aiming for.
