  1. Wow. Trading halted immediately after opening. Today could be a bloodbath. I don't know as much about fiscal policy as many here but it seems whatever the fed hoped to accomplish yesterday had the opposite impact on the market. The Fed was getting roasted online. They essentially emptied the cannons only 2 weeks into this crisis. What the hell will they do a month from now?
  2. We were days away from listing our house. Now I have no idea what to do. So much uncertainty.
  3. That's good. I don't have cable so I only check their website. https://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/americas/coronavirus-trump-fox-business-trish-regan-removed-impeachment-conspiracy-a9403011.html
  4. @Chucktshoes you may have seen this already but they have lifted hours of service rules for drivers. Edit-only for goods related to the outbreak. https://www.freightwaves.com/news/its-official-fmcsa-waives-hos-nationwide-for-covid-19-related-movement
  5. Fox News may be taking this seriously NOW but they were not before. The difference in coverage last week between networks was obvious.
  6. Bryan, are these friends saying what could be done to contain it at this point? Aside from locking us down like Wuhan and Italy, what other options do we have?
  7. Question for you. Did your wife shake hands with the infected person? How did most of the group catch it? Curious if it was airborne or not.
  8. I don't mean this towards anyone here but I have to say it. I feel like we've entered a parallel universe when it comes to the response. My more conservative friends think this is being blown out of proportion by the media. These are the friends that would normally be in favor of self reliance and prepardness. Now they are doing nothing and largely dismissing it. Meanwhile, my liberal friends that years ago made fun of the doomsday preppers, and would largely just depend on the government to save them, are taking this very seriously. They are stocking up on everything(minus ammo of course). I never thought I'd see a pandemic have the opposite impact on being prepared. When it's all said and done I think the thing people will need the most is an emergency fund. This is sadly what most are lacking. I feel bad for all the hospitality and service industry workers. There are a lot of kids paying their rent from tip money that are going to be in a world of hurt soon. Have sympathy for them if nothing else. The economic impact is going to be disastrous. I know you've seen me bitch about our debt deficit for many years. Now that we actually need urgent action it's scary to think how few levers they have left to pull. Rates are already so low and our deficit so high. Imagine them trying to spend their way out if this continues.
  9. I just shared your post with my dad who is high risk and not taking this that seriously. Question on the testing. Why are we not testing more people? What's the reason the tests are hard to come by? Also, I cancelled my flight to Portland. I realized how stupid it was and I'm afraid I might get stuck out there. This is why I need to hide my credit card after I've had a few beers...
  10. That's good to hear. Some of my drivers we're already talking about calling out, asking if they would still get paid. My friend at J.B. Hunt said some of their drivers were already calling off. Maybe when all this is said and done, people will appreciate your profession a little more.
  11. Many of my wife's coworkers are gen x and boomers. They eat out at least twice a day and complain about being broke. My wife and I are in our 30's are we cook at home. We're not all helpless.
  12. Well, pandemic aside, there are some great deals to be had. I booked a round trip ticket to see my best friend in Portland, OR. Total cost was $156. It's the epicenter of the virus but I'll take a risk. If you are interested in any vacations now is the time to book. Our friends found a round trip flight from Atlanta to Costa Rice for $188.
  13. Can someone explain just what exactly the Fed did or tried to do with this $1.5 trillion. I keep reading they "injected" this into the market but I don't understand what this means or what it's supposed to accomplish.
  14. Friends and coworkers are saying local grocery stores in Knoxville are packed. A guy I work with went to Costco and said the line went from the front of the store to the back.
  15. My job just told us to work from home for the next few weeks. No end date has been specified.
  16. On another note. I landed a new job that I am supposed to start 3/23. We were planning to list our house any day now. I don't know what they are legally allowed to do, but I'm halfway expecting them to either pull back my job offer or at least delay my start date. Of course, I've already turned in my notice to my current job. So the next few weeks will be interesting for me. Best case, I'm starting a new job right as this pandemic starts to take off.
  17. I feel for anyone that was just about to flip the retirement switch. This is going to get ugly.
  18. I work in transportation. My customer is a manufacturer that makes toilet paper, hand sanitizer, baby wipes etc. We're already seeing major disruptions and they are running low on inventory. My industry alone has the power to bring this country to its knees. If even 1/5 of truck drivers get scared enough to stop coming into work it's gonna hurt. I know for a fact that J.B Hunt, Swift, Werner and few others are already working on contingency plans for sending employees home. My friend at Hub Group said they are making sure employees have VPN access. I've largely tried to downplay this virus but I'm now thinking that things are about to get interesting. I went out today and filled up gas cans and bought essentials.
  19. One thing is certain. If the country does go on some sort of house arrest/lock down, there will be a ton of babies born in 9 months.
  20. I was honestly surprised to see them practice treating their wounded. I thought they would just leave them for dead.
  21. Spotted in West Knoxville this morning. Maybe serious rather than funny?
  22. Yes. Do it for the children Greg.
  23. Got a link to said code? I'd like to read it.
  24. Is that confirmed? I've read several conflicting opinions on this.
  25. Being a pilot, you might enjoy a podcast I found called Inside the Black Box. The narrator is a dry British guy but the content is great. He explains some of the most famous aviation disasters in history. Your comment stuck out to me because many of these crashes happened after very experienced pilots screwed up. The Fairchild Air Base crash is a good example.
