  1. Yeah the 2008 spike happened while George was in office. Not sure what you mean by lasting 8 years. We had several years of affordable gas. 2009-2010 the avg was under $3/gallon. Probably .20 less in TN. I guess it might have felt high at the time. 2015-2016 gas was around $2.25/gallon. The national avg in Feb 2016 was $1.82/gallon. I can recall buying gas in Lenoir City for around $1.60 for a while. https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=emm_epm0_pte_nus_dpg&f=m I read last night that by next year US oil production will exceed the record set in 2019, assuming something else doesn't happen.
  2. She saw the shooter wreck his truck so she propped the door open with a rock while she called 911. Once she saw him hop the fence with a rifle she shut the door. It was supposed to lock automatically but it did not. Police confirmed this. It sounds like it really wasn't her fault but I'm sure she still feels horrible.
  3. I have no idea. But upon reading that chart closer, within 2 months of taking office the US was producing more oil than the amount when Trump left office. My whole point was that I don't think Biden is the reason the global price of oil is so high. That's not to say he is a fan of domestic drilling. I read that oil companies are reluctant to increase drilling because they are worried about plummeting demand like 2020 happening again. If feels like they are intentionally keeping prices high and production limited. Again, 9,000 approved but unclaimed domestic drilling permits. That says a lot. We have a lot of troubling things happening right now. I'm not as doom and gloom as many here but even I'm starting to get concerned. I don't think we'll ever see $2.50/gallon gas again.
  4. I guess we're back to thinking that the POTUS sets the price of globally traded crude oil? I guess it's a good time to mention there are over 9,000 approved drilling permits still not being used in the US. When Trump left office we were producing around 11M barrels of oil per day in the US. As of March 2022 we are now producing 11.6M barrels per day. https://www.eia.gov/dnav/pet/hist/LeafHandler.ashx?n=pet&s=mcrfpus2&f=m
  5. It's also crazy how desensitized I've become to it. My first thought yesterday was that I was thankful it was only 5 people instead of the 15-20 we've been seeing. It doesn't even shock me anymore. And people wonder why I don't want to bring kids into this world.
  6. Add Facebook/Twitter/Instagram too please.
  7. More treason. https://youtu.be/yxgybgEKHHI
  8. Being an idiot is not treason. Neither is lying. If it is, then both Biden and Trump could have been sent to the gallows by now. You could say the same for most politicians in either party.
  9. Well this is great timing for Gov. Abbott. Texas ranks dead last for access to mental health treatment in the U.S.
  10. What makes this any more interesting than the previous dozen mass shootings? We hear some version of this every time there is a mass shooting.
  11. And we went off the rails when people used this thread as their own personal pulpit. Both groups have made valid points. The Indian issue is just as valid as bringing up the transgender topic. This is an extremely complicated issue that we're all trying to make sense of. I'm not convinced more Christianity is somehow going to stop this issue. Back when more people when to church we had a whole host of other issues. My Baptist friends still think that being gay is a "lifestyle" and will lead to eternal damnation. I'm sure many here do as well. Anyways, I saw this comment on Reddit 4 years ago and it always stuck with me. I may have shared it before but it's worth sharing again.
  12. I agree with a lot of your post but I'm not seeing how this section is causing school shootings. Can you expand on how this is related to any of the shootings we've seen so far? I'm guessing this school system in rural Texas wasn't teaching kids about this topic but I could be wrong. The pictures of the cross dresser floating around are apparently not actually the shooter in this instance.
  13. I'm actually hearing the opposite. The CPB agent went in AFTER local police failed to. I'm sure more details will come out in the following days. This is reminding me of the Parkland shooting though.
  14. That's fair but some of the points in that post appear to check out. It says a lot that US Border Patrol agents had to do what local law enforcement was unwilling to do. I thought we learned from Columbine that you cannot wait to enter. This video seems to show the scene as parents begged local cops to go in. https://nitter.1d4.us/paleofuture/status/1529652093354536961#m
  15. I think it was this comment. https://www.reddit.com/r/WhitePeopleTwitter/comments/uxs488/who_do_we_actually_care_about/ia0yopl?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share&context=3
  16. This is a popular claim but it's not true. Teachers are not typically armed in Israel but they do have armed guards. We've seen 3-4 mass shootings now where even having police on scene did not stop the shooting. Parkland, Pulse Nightclub, Santa Fe, and now this school. I love the idea of more SRO's though.
  17. That unfortunately is not working for a lot of Americans. I have read stories in the past about people who wanted to get mental health treatment and couldn't get the help the needed. People both with and without insurance. It's an broken system. That said, I think mental illness is only part of the issue here along with a bunch of other societal and cultural problems we have.
  18. How do you think we should pay for mental health services then? We know it's not affordable for the avg joe. Bring back the insane asylums!
  19. When Democrats propose more government spending for mental health then they are quickly shot down by the same people blaming these incidents on mental health.
  20. I agree, but what is the actual problem? I don't understand what drives people to keep doing this. That's why coming up with any sort of solution seems so unlikely.
  21. All I can think to say is F&$# that guy!!!
  22. That was terrifying. I wonder if the lug nuts on both wheels were not torqued.
  23. Mostly demand. It started right around the time Russia invaded Ukraine and diesel prices shot up.
  24. Not a lot beyond it being a concern. Most of our loads are contracted so that our customers pay for fuel. Or at least most of it. It's all hurting though. The cost of new trucks, tires, repairs on existing trucks, etc. All those things are substantially inflated right now. If you know any kids graduating high school that wanted to learn a trade, diesel mechanics are in high demand and make a lot from what I understand. More overtime than you could possibly want I assume. The next year or two will be interesting I bet.
  25. Consider this your monthly supply chain update. The trucking company I work for this time last year was declining 10,000 loads per week. Now we are declining around 1,000 loads per week. That was 10k loads we wanted to haul, but simply couldn't. We have seen a remarkable drop from even Q1 of this year. That said, I think we had our best Q1 in company history.
